I'm tapering off baclofen, the so-called miracle cure for alcoholism that so many people come to MWO for. I'm down to 20mg a day (down from 80) until I run out on Tuesday. The only change I've noticed is that it's taken me longer to fall asleep the past several nights. I have an appointment with the psychiatrist later in the month so I will bring it up if it continues. I am staying on the two antidepressants for the time being, but I'm questioning the continued need for the mood stabilizer as well. I have a 20+ mile bike ride bright and early tomorrow so good night everyone.First, a man takes a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes the man. --Chinese proverb

Hi there - this is my normal middle of the night posting. So aggravating. Just made myself some Sleepy time tea.
We've been hearing fireworks also. Thankfully, it didn't last beyond 9:30 or so.
Aihfl admire your being able to ride 20 mi. We have a biking group that goes about 10 mi. Every MWF. I tried it twice and both times faded after about 5 mi. Got checked out and turns out my Vit B12 levels were low. Had 4 shots and now take supplements. Today I got my bike from condo, rode it to practice green, putted for about 15 min., rode it home 2 mi overall and came in house ready to pass out. Granted, it was 91 deg. Plan is to take bike out early on non golf days, and gradually build up. Let us know how the 20 miler goes.
Tomorrow is first match in our Summer Survivor golf outings. We drew a very good couple so we (mostly me) will get strokes and anything can happen any given day. 8:15 tee time so hopefully this Sleepy time tea kicks in soon!
Have a nice Sunday! The pain of discipline is less than the pain of regret.

I’m feeling a bit sad tonight.
I’ve always been proud to be Australian. I know we have our faults, but in general we’ve always been a very tolerant and accepting country. Or so I thought. But seeing the latest election results we seem to be becoming increasingly more racist and homophobic.Last edited by Glass Half Empty; July 3, 2016, 03:22 AM.There's two ways of looking at the holes in your shoes

Good Early Morning, Friends,
Happy Sunday to all! Yesterday was filled with a 5 mile walk on the lake path, a workout at the gym, lunch on the shore, and some paperwork. I also organized a few things. A great day all around. :-)
Glassie:hug:I haven't been following your election but I totally understand your sadness regarding the results and the increasingly homophobic and racist culture...maddening, isn't it? You must feel so helpless. We love you here...so glad you are with us. I was smiling with you when you told us what you bought for your new granddaughter. I love little dresses/tops with leggings!! I confess, I do like buying little girl clothes more than boys' clothes. My apologies to the wonderful men on this thread: aihfl, Mr. G, Techie, et al. So glad you got the boot off. What a relief that must be. You have really been a trooper. I LOVED all your emoticons in support of our dear Nora. You have a heart of gold, Classy Glassy!
Nora- You are NOT hogging this thread and even if you do, who cares? It's YOUR thread. You can hog it if you want! I am so glad Molly is showing some improvement. Good for you for staying on your brother so you can get the house sold, etc. What a job! So proud of you for having a sober 4th of July this year. Liz might be right about the fleeting wishful drinking thought, though. It might have something to do with going off the ADs. My very best friend was on Paxil for several years and when she missed a dosage, I could tell in her mood the very next day. She would be very negative and angry. We'll take care of you, Nora.:heartbeat:
TMH-The 401 in Toronto....UGH...been there, done that. No thank you!! Hey, good luck in the golf match today!!
aihfl-Baclofen isn't for everyone. At my maximum dose, I was on 90 mgs./day. I've been on 20 mgs. for the last few years and what it does is mitigate my lifelong battle with crippling anxiety. The anxiety was a major reason why my drinking escalated from social to problematic. I also have a very short fuse. I have noticed if I miss a day of Baclofen that my temper can be pretty short. You probably all have noticed that! Hahahahahah! Is it necessary to be on 2 ADs? I wonder if you would be OK with one or none, now that you are sober. I saw where you made into the 100 Day Thread. GOOD FOR YOU!!! A 20 mile bike ride...have fun...good thing you are going out early.
Today I am working out, swimming in the lake, and then going to my brother's lake cottage for swimming, boating and a cook out. My mom, sister and BIL will be there, too. Looking forward to it.
Techie-I hope you are having a blast in Alaska!
Hellos and lots of love to Mama, Liz, Pauly, ActionGirl, NoSugar, Red67, Mr. G and our friends across the pond: Jackie, Molly, Satz, Mary, Spidy, and anyone I missed.
I am off to get some exercise! I hope everyone has a great day!

Hi all, just taken a little flutter with tiny new wings out of the nest to have a look at some other threads and see what's going on and this one is just brilliant....
Nora - It seems like only yesterday I was at day 19, and yet here I am at 18,000 years and 20 days - oh how time flies - thanks Nora!!

Welcome, Tony!!! Scotland....I have never been to Scotland but someone I was very fond of here was from Scotland. She went by the name of Chillgirl. I hear it's a beautiful country.
Congratulations on all your AF time and welcome to our thread!!:welldone:
Just so you know, I am a 55-year old single woman. If I had a nickel for every time I got a PM from people asking me if I were a guy...I wouldn't have to work. Hahaha.

Good morning everyone. Just got back from the bike ride, jumping into the shower and going to meet the ex-wife for a late breakfast. Did 22.8 miles in a little under 1:45, and that included two lengthy rest breaks. Last week was 28, almost 29. Hope everyone has a great day and an enjoyable Monday off for those of us in the USA (I'm working, but it's time and a half, cha ching!).

EDIT: Forgot to add, the turnaround point is a place called Big Tree Park. It was the home of the largest bald cypress tree in the world, and at roughly 4,500 years old, one of the oldest trees in the world. And it's destruction was such a typical Florida story. A tree that stood against hurricanes, storms and more recently loggers for millenia was no match for a methhead looking to get high. She crawled in the tree, struck a match to light her pipe, dropped the match and set the fallen cypress needles on fire, burning down the tree. About 20 feet remain, but I have no desire to see it preferring my memories instead.Last edited by aihfl; July 3, 2016, 04:10 PM.First, a man takes a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes the man. --Chinese proverb

Happy 4th of July, Friends!!!
I am off for a walk on the lake path with a dear friend and another friend of hers. Sobriety has given me the gift of new, more meaningful friendships. I have made a whole new group of friends I would not trade for the world. Several of them are moderate drinkers and some of them are non-drinkers. It's wonderful!
Aihfl-wow, great job on the bike ride, but what a pathetic story about the meth addict. That is something I cannot envision and yet you say it is commonplace in Florida. Unbelievable.
Liz-I hope the birthday party was fun and the food was delicious. I am with you...it's all about the food. Hahaha.
I hope everyone has a fabulous 4th of July!!

Happy 4th to everyone. I'll be glad when it's over. The illegal ones have been going off every night. Shakes the house and sets off car alarms.
I count my blessings that I have never experienced real explosions in my life. War zones or even violent neighborhoods. I am so blessed."Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.".....Carol Burnett
