Quite a lot of poop here but I have loads to be thankful for too. From drinking around and over 120 units per week I'm in a better place. Had a huge hick up in my road after rehab but I need to suck the flip up tomorrow and get back on it tomorrow. Bonfire night here tonight, I know that's a UK thing. What are you all up to?

Hi Back and welcome.
We have all been where you are now and each and every day our main goal is to stay sober. The good thing is it gets easier and better as time goes on.
I watched a lot of youtube docos on alcoholism which were real eye openers. I always thought it would never happen to me but i was well on the way to ending up like a lot of the people they filmed. Each doco or movie i watched reinforced why i needed to stop drinking.
Do whatever you feel you need to do, i found being on mwo each and everyday and saying how i felt and accepting the help from here worked for me. Still logging on each and everyday to be accountable as us alkies when left to our own devices can be detrimental.
Head over to the newbies nest and have a read and say hi, there is always someone around to chat to there.

good for you...get back on the road,you dont need 120 units..be positive think positive despite all the attached crap,you can do it ....where are you if youve got bonfires too?af since the fourth of July 2012...howzat then America..now proudly marching into year 12

Hi there Back, like Ava I also found watching those documentaries helpful and also reading books like Alan Carr's, when I had my final quit. I treated it as an all out personal campaign to stop drinking, and I had to learn to stop giving myself excuses - sad or happy, to drink. I also had to break decades of habits. So dealing with both the big picture and the little ones.
Also why not give AA a go? It was not to my taste but the personal contact can be so important - more so than the Steps and the rituals in AA. I dont know where you live in the UK (I live in NZ) but maybe try out different groups if one doesn't work. I am sure that there are other support groups around as well - you local community organization should list these.Last edited by treetops; November 6, 2016, 01:44 AM.

Thank you treetops I may try AA although I am not sure it will be for me either. I live in England in the UK, my parents were going to emigrate to NZ when I was a child, what a beautiful place. Reading, watching and being kind to myself is what I am going to be.

Day 1 today staying away from all shops and drinking lots of tea and water. Yes lots and lots to deal with which I think is why I fell off the wagon but that's an excuse. I'm glad your doing well and look forward to getting back there myself and work everyday to stay there

I am sorry you are struggling. I too lost my brother and it seems I got much worse after that. I couldn't truly grieve him and start to heal until I had some sober time. (Which I have messed up numerous times).
I wish strength and clarity for you now as you keep hanging on tight! Self- harm can sometimes be replaced by talking to your "hurt self". If you were taking care of your hurt self like a child what would you do? Would you tell them to take a nice shower and put on soft clean pajamas? Eat clean nourishing food, sleep in fresh sheets and cuddle up with lots of pillows and love? That's what I'm trying to do and it does help. My therapist's idea of course but worth a try!Day 1 again 11/5/19
