Originally posted by Tabbers (a.k.a. KTAB) View PostMorning folks, a chap could certainly get used to this waking up and not feeling blah everyday lark.Originally posted by Tabbers (a.k.a. KTAB) View PostThat's good Mario, it's a great to have you here posting daily.
I like that, addicted to sobriety, I honestly think I am on that road and I can't tell you how happy, grateful and relieved it makes me feel. I know I have said it before but this time my quit is completely different. When you know it you just know, if you get my drift.
Great to see you so positive this time, Tabbers. I agree 100% - when you know it, you know it. That's what it was/is like for me this time. I don't even think of AL anymore, haven't for a long time. It simply is not a part of my life. Simple as that. There is a fully stocked liquor cabinet at home, an un-opened bottle of whiskey on the counter in the kitchen here at work and I pour Mr. Stirly his wine every time we eat together. No cravings, no pangs, no nothing - ziltch. They are simply bottles or glasses with a liquid in them that have absolutely nothing to do with me. Because I AM FREE!!! YAY!!
I was thinking about the Army on the way to work yesterday morning and I actually teared up a bit thinking that all of us - ALL OF US - are AF - every single one posting on the Army is AF. How fricking cool is that! How much we have to be grateful for. And yes - you can certainly get addicted to an AF life. :spin: :flowerspin:
Wishing you all a great day and hoping that Starty starts to feel more cheerful soon. Life is like that - ups and downs. Mr. G always says there is a blue sky behind them clouds. And Mr. G knows - he's gittin' it!!!
For every 60 seconds that you are angry, you lose a minute of happiness.

I started posting here while I was still drinking ..... if I was to wait until I was AF I would never have posted.

And a heaven in a wildflower.

Satzy - I wasn't inferring that it was an AF thread - I was just stating how happy I am that some of us - myself and KTAB included, who struggled for so long to break free of the curse of AL, have finally done it and that we have a different outlook this time. Of course the Army welcomes everyone - they always have. And of course it is best to come here and post and not run and hide when that AL voice rears up again. But it is so encouraging to see a whole bunch of people who are living and enjoying a life without alcohol. Proof positive that it can be done. That's all I meant. That it is a joy to see that we can really and truly put that nightmare of daily or binge drinking behind us and enjoy a life that does not include alcohol. The Army is just such a fine example of folk who have stopped drinking and started living, exploring new avenues and finding themselves again. Surely that is something to be happy about and to shout out about. That it can be done - we CAN turn our lives around and really live instead of just existing. I know this sounds like a lot of platitudes but it isn't. It's how I really feel. I was a prisoner in my own mind and my addiction for so many years and now I am free of that. I am well aware that there is always the danger of relapse but that, too, is up to us. How we react to the little and the big things in life - whether we decide to run and hide in a bottle or to confront them. Or even to just forget about something and let it work itself out. But in the end, with a clear mind, the decision is ours and it will be a well-thought out one, not one clouded by AL thoughts or a hangover or a continual obsession of when we can have the next drink. That is such a HUGE thing in the lives of people who's daily life was centered around a bottle. And the Army is a great place for people to come for advice and support because we have all been there but we have also shown that each and every person who truly has the will to stop drinking, can do so. Army Against Alcohol. We are all here as testament that it can be done and to help those who seek encouragement to break free. Yes, we need to be on guard, but we also need to celebrate each and every day of freedom and to let others know that an AF life really is a good life and not a life of deprival or loss because we have chosen to live without the poison that is alcohol. I hope that people will be encouraged to post and not put off by the fact that we are sober. I saw it in the past on other threads, people who were trying to stay sober and others posting about a night out with the girls and how many beers they had had. There was no advice of how to get through the cravings and no support to those struggling. Here there are fine examples of people with long-time sobriety and people with less sober time - there is a place for everyone and lots of advice and encouragement to be given and received. And that even if someone is still drinking, there is room here for them as well, until they find the strength to finally say "I want what the Army has" and to break free.
Okay, down off my soapbox and back to work. For every 60 seconds that you are angry, you lose a minute of happiness.
