Re: Express your Gratitude

Thanks so much for that link, E3! I was really amazed. I watch a lot of SciFi movies, so in a way I was also a bit disturbed! LOL
empyr3al, I thought today about your post in the Café about luck and Lucifer. I like words and origins of words so I googled luck and like you, saw no origins in Lucifer. But, I also don't trust the internet so I went to my bookshelf and looked at the Webster College Dictionary that I bought for my kids in the late '90's. Nothing there either. Luck had its origin in the Dutch language and had nothing to do with Lucifer that I could see. So then I went to the book Mr. Dill's mother most likely bought for him when he went off to college, Webster New World Dictionary (1966). In that dictionary, 'luck' was the second entry after 'Lucifer'. So, I wondered if perhaps your mother was talking about luck following Lucifer in the dictionary as it used to do? Perhaps someone had said that at some point to her.

Grateful for another beautiful day. I participated in a charity walk for a local Recovery organization. Grateful for all the caring people who keep the ball moving forward.

I’m grateful for the work the Food Bank does, they had their annual drive today so Bubba and I set out a big box of canned goods and sweets for them.

Woops, cross threaded - We were talking about Luck and Lucifer is anyone reads this

dill, its probably that my mother heard a sermon (because of course they are all true and well researched *rolls eyes*) and assumed a correlation. I tend to do heavy research and you could get into the pseudo psychological reasoning of the entire matter, that its not luck if its gods will, etc. I found it really disconcerting for to her to rationalize it and attempt to make it sound like fact to me. So like you; I did my back check before I spit out non-sense to others. Its interesting what a google search brings up.

I enjoy my Sci-Fi too. My father was talking about Noam Chomsky today just as I was reading the news and watching documentaries about trade and finances and the art of deception. Little bit of a heavy science/political day today. A little sci-fi escape sometimes does me well. Interesting the parallel's drawn with Star Trek and politcal and social movements. CBC has a write up on the new star trek. Why we need Star Trek — and its progressive values — more than ever | CBC Arts. It was filmed in Toronto and apparently was a headache to produce this type of television in a shrinking medium like TV. Interesting insights as to a sort of intellectualized evolution of humans as an ideal fantasy when really; the world is in complete chaos!

Good for you for taking the time to do the walk.

abcowboy, I believe today and this weekend is the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival, so there was a parade and everyone is sloshed downtown. The lawlessness that goes on is crazy this weekend or in the past has been so. Its been a decade or more since I attended. People are passed out in doorways of the bars by mid afternoon, puke on the streets, fights everywhere (that's not normal behavior for this city, its like a no holds insane asylum as the noon turns afternoon into dusk and on and on). Would have been nice to have volunteered for the food drive/float, maybe next year.

So for gratitude, I'm grateful for instant access to knowledge, freedoms of expression and people that give back to our community. I'm also grateful I'm not wasted downtown!

Grateful for a clear mind and the ability to enjoy a walk at the bay with hubs and the dog. Can only take the smaller dog as the big guy is too excitable.

dill - had a wonderful truffle gnocchi last night out and it was super yummy!

Going to head out for food supplies to send down to Mexico. The earthquake has devastated so many.

Grateful for the A/C during this last heat wave of the season. I’m usually behind on indoor stuff during outdoor weather season, so I will do some catching up today.

I too am grateful for the Serenity Prayers and prayer in general. In some difficult times/situations, it may be all we have. It helps so much to be able to let go.

I am grateful for a 62-year-old body, that, despite all the hardship I've put it through, continues to serve me well.
Smoking, drinking, childbirth, every diet known to man ......... to name a few.
And all the bits & pieces I was born with are still intact, Thank God, and working well

A miracle really
