Re: Express your Gratitude

dill, it's funny you mention pets. I am grateful for my pets too. My one dog goes back to my ex tomorrow for a week or so but it's been a fun week with him. My puppy on the other hand is a whole different story. I just flipped my couches and chairs and found a million pieces of paper and cardboard and toys and pieces of plastic (remnants of my 150$ blutooth earpiece) and believe it or not! I found a lighter that she had actually chewed a hole through. So she must have had at least some ethanol or butane or whatever is in a lighter. Anyways, I'm still grateful for her despite her chewing insanity. The most important things I keep away from her are my meds! They are organized and secured and at all times either on me or elevated on my "prep to go" shelf where I keep my keys and sunglasses, etc.

Grateful I have the resources to be able to make quality healthy food! Gotta find a deal on some B1 Thiamine though... running short.

Inthesky, I have not heard that song in 25 years or more! I'll give it a good listen as back then lyrics weren't as important as melody. Things change. Hold on ... while I give it a listen.

I have a ton of songs related to addiction and mental health (emotion) that are astonishing when you actually listen to them. I think the forum is on theendofmyaddiction for music, I haven't posted much though. There should be a subsection for music on MYO.

Re: Express your Gratitude

I was looking through some of my old stuff from rehabs and my entire collection of art work and things like my serenity prayer globe candle light. I found this piece of 3D art I made at one of the expensive rehabs I was at. It had huge grounds around it and you were free to do anything you pleased, short of meetings and required choice of activity like art, plants, bowling, sports. What ever you chose or got on the list early enough for. During this stay I sat most of the time by the river and walking the trails contemplating things. I researched a lot of history during this stay which allowed family and friends and weekend's at home and you could leave to go shopping if you wanted too, so we could go buy art supplies, etc. I spent a lot of time finding my spirit and aka higher power. I have some interesting photos. We technically weren't allowed phones or cameras but heck you just pass in a fake phone and don't show anyone. I have some insane memories from this experience. I won't mention which rehab it is but it wasn't cheap. Well one of the classes you could sign up for was art, so I chose that one that day. We walked around and gathered nature from the trees and plants and made some 3D art. I had no idea I had the ability to think so far in depth into something like art and planning and the immense creativity that was completely untapped in me. I never finished it and have some parts of it tucked in behind and in a ziploc bag. It was fall, so I worked on a 3D leaf theme. I have a ton of leaves that have fallen off of it (the punched ones) and a ton more that I always intended to add to it but the classes were short. It's quite minimalistic in approach which was different from some other pieces others made. It started to turn out so well I was absorbed by it. This was done rapidly. If I dare say I made one of the nicest ones and the insane rush of creativity blew me away. Was actually a life changing experience and made me think about maybe life is not all about facebook and computers and tech and whether my wife is cheating on me and focus on something. Anyways. I'll share a link of a crappy photo I got of it in its falling apart state I just took. Grateful I got to experience a side of myself I had never seen before.

3D tree art

I have to figure out how to share from my google drive with an actual image embedded into the post. Darn. I've embedded photo's before from my google drive. Too large?

That is really a lovely piece, empyr3al. You should do more artwork!

Thank you for the song, abcowboy and Inthesky. I am going to listen to that song next time I need that little extra nudge in the right direction!

Tonight I am grateful for my hobbies and productive, healthy passtimes.

Grateful to have had my dog for over a week as my ex was burnt out. Got to celebrate his birthday. My perfect dog I worked so hard on

Hard giving him back. Nice of my ex to give me a Kong toy and some peanut butter for my other puppy Sadie (I got her as an eventual replacement).

Gratefulness thread so I'll post in newbies nest or checkin or the cafe the other pieces of my reaction... Hard to figure out which thread to post in!@!!@#

I am grateful that I am sober and can help my 90-year-old mother with chores today. When my drinking was at its worst, I would drive 50 miles after I had several drinks, show up at her door, drunk, and pretend everything was fine. By the grace of God, I have never had a DUI or an accident as the result of drinking. I am forever grateful to the people who were kind enough to go out of their way (as in sacrificing an hour or two of their time) to drive me home.

Grateful that I didn't attend (nor tonight) will attend any halloween gatherings. Grateful to have broken my FB addiction and am at 3 minutes a day for messenger specifically. Now I have a forum addiction though. I logged into FB as I still get notifications and I have a ton of invites to events. Made me think about the times I attended these parties. My age expresses the culture I was involved in. Electronic music, so there are clubs and underground gatherings and DJs. So it made me think about my 20's which was just silly clothing. My 30's being more wealthy, stylistic and modern. It made me recall that I actually took extreme care of my appearance often, grooming, showering, clothing. Getting ready to go out was a big deal especially with friends who gather before going out (pre party). I guess there was some advantages to it in that respect. Its interesting to see who is still involved in it when I look at the events.

Rusty, it is so good that you are able to help your Mom and that you gave your Mom the gift of having her daughter sober and healthy. I am sure you are so precious to her. I hate looking back on some of the really embarrassing and dangerous things I have done. I remember one winter night after an open house where the wine was flowing I turned left instead of right on the main road I needed to take to get home. I was miles South before I realized nothing looked right and I don't know how long it took for me to even process that I was headed South instead of North. Come to think of it, that is a perfect analogy for my drinking and the direction my life was heading back then. I was definitely going south! Wrong direction in more ways than one!! I was lucky to get home that night without hitting a deer or going off the road. I had a passenger in the car, too. She was probably as drunk as I was. I was raised in an environment where drinking was accepted and drinking to excess just went with the territory for my parents and their friends. It was part of the social scene for them. I think that tacit acceptance played a big part in my taking so long to wake up to my personal reality.
I am grateful that I did come to my senses and that I had another 24 hours today!

empyr3al, I never liked costume parties once I was an adult. Loved them as a child, but found them creepy as an adult. At this point I don't find it challenging to go to social events and not drinking. In fact I have come to prefer it. Thankfully. Grateful for that!
