I'm grateful for the start of the Advent season, a reminder of what Christmas is all about....
Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

I’m especially grateful for the music of this season and the one approaching. These seasons are combined in the secular world, which is fine. I already know what’s coming.
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

Re: Express your Gratitude

When I was a child, I was a voracious reader, and the library was a magical place for me. As I grew older and the seeds of alcoholism became firmly planted in me, I lost all interest in reading. (and everything else) The truth was, I was no longer able to retain much of anything, much less the written word. If I did attempt to read, I would go over the same paragraph multiple times, and the next day I would remember none of it. After dumping the booze, the desire to read, ever so slowly came back to me. I went to the library the other day, and the same joy that filled me as a child flooded through me once again. I was so at peace, something that I've been in search of for a very long time. Life is good and I am so thankful for this little gift!

I'm grateful for my buddy Hank who always greets me when I get home with a big sloppy kiss lol. Happy 8th birthday my friend!

Dogs are the best deal mankind ever made!

I can’t see myself without a 4 legged buddy, ever. Our current pup is a 2 1/2 year old border collie/lab cross that we got from a Herding dog rescue in August. She has fit in so well with our lifestyle and loves our daily 6km walks.

Their unconditional love is a great help to us as we struggle with al and they seem to know when we need them.

Oh so grateful for dogs, currently our 9-year-old hound who still behaves like a puppy. She spends most of her time in front of our gas fireplace in cold weather. The weather here is turning seriously colder now, so she will have to wear her jacket for her walk today. She hates it, but she does not have an undercoat, and would shiver without it.

I am grateful for the library too, Jude! As a child I too loved spending time at the library and read voraciously. As an adult I can't seem to make myself sit still long enough! Thank goodness for audio books! I almost always have a book going. But your description of reading while drinking hit very close to home for me. A few years back Mr. D and I read the Potter books aloud to each other in the evening. Many's the morning I had to reread the chapter from the night before because I couldn't recall any of it!

I'm grateful for this day unencumbered with alcohol!

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

Dill....I'm glad that you are feeling better, amazing what a difference one day can make! I now read myself to sleep, instead of passing out in front of the tv.

Today I am grateful for our two car attached garage. On windy days we can open the automatic garage door, roll on in and close that auto garage door before we even have to open our car doors. Before we added the garage it could be absolutely brutal getting to and from the house with the open fields right next to our driveway!

Grateful to be seeing sunshine, even tho it is still quite cold. abcowboy, could you keep those Alberta Clippers confined please?

It was a gale force out there today dill! I'll have to check with the border crossing guards and see if wind falls under their jurisdiction lol.

I'm grateful for a relatively mild winter so far. Unlike other people 'round here, my truck sits outside! But I haven't had to plug it in yet or brush much snow off it....

Hey all
Today I'm grateful that young Satz is 7 weeks sober........ and appears to have a new attitude to alcohol.
He went to Molls' rehab and it certainly seems to have done the trick.
He knew a lot of theory of getting sober - read all the books etc. but something just seemed to click into place while there.

I’m grateful for all the help available for those suffering from an addiction of any kind! Some I believe in, some I don’t, but if it even helps one person overcome their addiction, then it has it’s place...

I’m grateful for 4” of snow, with more on the way; and a new rechargeable snow blower which worked very nicely this morning.
