I'm grateful that I never feel any pressure to have a Christmas drink with my customers....Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

Re: Express your Gratitude
Jude58, it's a lot about his descent into addiction and his struggles to get clean. Loads of other stuff, too but that was the part that interested me at the time that I read it.
Tonight I am grateful that I have most of my shopping for Christmas done. I am going to have to make a list of what we need for food and get all that soon, but otherwise, done! And grateful to be sober for another day.:happy2:Dill
Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!
If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Re: Express your Gratitude
dill what is it about musician's and addiction? It seems that often the most talented people seem to struggle with alcohol and drugs, but I guess that none of us are immune. Glad that you got most of your Christmas shopping done, it's a good feeling. :happy2:
It's 4:00 am and I've been awake for awhile, but I'm grateful that I haven't done what I have in the past. I used to wake up a few hours after going to bed and get up and have a drink or two or three to make me sleepy. (pass out would be a better term) When the alarm went off in the morning, I would often be in rough shape, and would need another drink (or two) before heading out to work. Yes, I will be tired at work today, but I will be sober, and I am truly thankful for that.Last edited by Jude58; December 20, 2017, 04:17 AM.

Today I am grateful for the beautiful snowfall we experienced this afternoon. It didn't last long, but it was truly beautiful while it lasted.Last edited by dill; December 23, 2017, 03:04 PM.Dill

Re: Express your Gratitude
My husband works for the N.Y. Department of Transportation (DOT) and due to the heavy snow that we had received on Christmas, he was called in to plow, as the roads were a mess. We have no family nearby so I was alone with a half opened bottle of wine in the frig. (my husband still drinks, but not like I did I was feeling pretty sorry for myself, spending Christmas alone and all that, and I kept going to the frig and looking at that stupid bottle, which seemed to be calling out to me. "just one glass won't hurt...no one will know." I had been thinking, just one glass, it's Christmas after all. The urge was very strong, but then a memory of what someone here had posted popped into my head. "what's the point of having one glass?" I knew then that one glass would never be enough, I would have finished the bottle and started on another, then woke up the next day filled with self loathing and disappointment, things that I never want to feel again. So really, who would know if I had taken that first drink or two? The only person trying to protect my quit would know, and that would be me.
So grateful that I had the strength to say no to that talking bottle of wine.

Today I'm grateful for all the first responders, no matter if they are in the Armed forces, highway maintenance workers, and all the others. They give up so much just to keep us safe...Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
