Hi Army
I've been to see a therapist today (as arranged by my psychiatrist to give "interim" care between hospital visits which is more "local"...76 mile round trip....but that's not the point!).
She has said that I "ought" to be part of a group which meets to discuss issues. I told her about my geographic problems with AA and also that from my short foray into the AA system I did not feel it was right for me. She has suggested I join a group called "Smart Recovery" which I think is UK only, and I was wondering if any of you have any experience of these groups?
P.S. I'm putting this question on the Nest as well to get a wider view, just in case you think I've gone mad and got repetitive!Last edited by tonyniceday; February 21, 2017, 02:29 PM.

Re: Join the Army Against Alcohol - February 2017
There were three meetings a week at my old place. Its really taking off and if you have a look through there's on-line meetings too.
UK SMART Recovery
Basics: A trained facilitator takes the meeting. Its for any addiction. Usually the facilitator will have 10 or so minutes before your first meeting.
First half: First half each person usually talks about their week. You can pass until you feel more comfortable.
Half time: Coffee and a quick nip into the frozen outside for a ciggie.
Second half: The facilitator will have some kind of topic of conversation or exercise to work through.
Full time: Another chance to stand in the bitter cold having a ciggie and a chat with other members and then go home.It could be worse, I could be filing.

Re: Join the Army Against Alcohol - February 2017
Thanks for that JC... I've looked at the website from your link....one of the things it says on there is that if the meeting is not listed on there it's not official....the meeting suggested to me is NOT listed!!!
I'll make some calls tomorrow (actually later today...just looked at the clock) and see if it is...nothing to lose by trying it I suppose...
