I'll take one before I nod off JackieClaire

Well it was a memorable holiday mollyka in every way!! 3 weeks is a long time in a cast.. but he'll have mastered the crutch by then!

rustop59 great advise from all.. when I signed up here, it was my last chance saloon - I made myself I deal, if this didnt work, it would be AA. Only my husband knows why I dont drink (initial reasons was so I could have an out of course, now, its none of their business). No one would guess, I drank at home, in secret. I probably became a bit obsessed with this site, Id thrall though posts after posts, following people's stories that I identify with most. Then blogs (Mrs D, hip sobriety etc), you tube documentaries, novels.. rewiring my brain. I borrowed peoples plans, I whinged here, I ate icecream. You just do what you have to do.. Ive often thought Id take antabuse if it came to it down the line - I'll do what ever it takes, cos Im not going back to those days.

Night all.. xxx

Morning...........didn't need an alarm clock this morning woken up an hour and a half ago with a huge thunder and lightening storm and it hasn't half stotted down. Luckily with the herbal tablets and the diazapam Bess hasn't been too bad. She hasn't tried to dig a hole in the bathroom behind the toilet.......so that's a bonus.....no idea why she does that.

IamMary I still have a look see regularly on MWO when I've got the lappy open..........its habit now. I'm so pleased you found MWO you're part of it now.

Good morning everyone. I set an alarm but fell back to sleep. That does not happen too often but must have needed the sleep. Weather seems to have broken here too. Made a Doctors appointment to have bloods done, I have been kidding myself for long enough that my drinking has had no impact. Know my cholesterol is high so time for a bit of a reality check. May have to stay in and do some things in the house, rain has just started, oh well needs must.

Good for you, Molls. Sounds a lot like stress to me or could it be a sort of after shock from the accident last week. You take care of yourself.

I've been as fat as butter and as skinny as a rake and my cholesterol has always been what is called 'normal'.

Hi Rusty, I have lost count of the number of times when I blew it and drank only to feel so low the next day, it takes balls to pick yourself back up and try again. The years of abuse for me build into feelings of self disgust and low self esteem but remember we don't deserve this, not one of set out to 'catch' alcoholism. Do go and see the doctor, you might be pleasantly surprised. Be kind to yourself, you are worth better than letting this start up again.
Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

Re: Join the Army Against Alcohol-June 2017

Statins are the biggest con perpetrated by big pharma...ever.

Discovered by a Japanese researcher and thrown in the back of a cupboard as worthless they were 'rediscovered' by an American and overnight millions of Americans 'developed' hyper cholesterolaemia. They literally moved the goalposts and lowered the 'normal' level so more people would be in treatment range..... so as to increase the market for a madeup disease.

The ONLY group that has any statistical benefit from statins are men who have already HAD a heart attack.

Cholesterol in women RISES naturally as we age and the use of statins in older women causes brain and memory impairment. Add this to the fact that decades of low fat bullshit advice on diet has caused an epidemic of osteoporosis for which they have fed us ANOTHER disgusting drug.

There is absolutely no connection with consuming animal fat, eggs or good fat such as olive, avocado, sesame coconut oil and increases in cholesterol.

The oils to avoid are sunflower, safflower, canola and rape seed oils....the very ones we have had peddled to us for 20 years as 'good'.

Only thing I'd say is that when I had a heart attack in 2008 my cholesterol level was 12.8, the heart attack was almost entirely attributed to the Cholesterol. All that has happened since then for the C level is that I have had statins. It came down to 3 within a couple of weeks and has remained there except when I had a stupid period of not taking the statin and it went back to 8, and now is back where it should be

Exactly Tony, you are in the ONLY group who should be taking statins. I did say that above.

Good morning everyone. Back in the groove Mary watching Designated Survivor, House of cards and Orange is the new black. Bit shocked at how easy it happened but onwards and upwards. Absolute roaster yesterday with the odd dash of rain. Going to walk the doggies before it gets too hot.

I am not disagreeing with you generally, kuya because I take 9 tablets, for different things, every morning and another in the evening and I look at them almost every day and wonder whether they are all necessary or whether some of them are simply lining the pockets of the drug companies. However, my point is that whilst you may be right about the specific group of people statins help, had my high cholesterol level been diagnosed BEFORE my heart attack, could it have been prevented with statins, in my case? I guess we'll never know!

I think that most current thinking is that heart disease is multifactorial and not CAUSED solely by cholesterol but after an attack cholesterol is one thing you CAN control .... so you should.

We tend to forget about all the things we could do to mitigate the effects of our poor life choices. I strongly recommend you should take co enzyme q10 Tony.....it has been shown to decrease the need for heart medications by 30-50%..... yet doctors rarely mention it.

It's a shame that we have to doubt medical advice cos of big pharma -
I am trained to use conventional drugs and get 'sold to' all the time by reps who know feck all about medicine. I have educated myself over the years to protect myself from the effects of my heavy drinking and smoking. My doctor means well but knows very little about health, just a lot about illness.

He is the same age as I am and is slim and cycles AND takes statins but is the one who had open heart surgery a couple years ago. I take a raft of supplements and maybe it is simply luck but look ten years younger than I am....in spite of the abuse.

It IS a shame we have to doubt big pharma but we must as the evidence is clear that their model exists to keep us sick NOT make us well.
