              Hello again, Army.

Nora - simple explanation sent to you by PM. I didn't include any details for privacy reasons for Mario's sake.

Below is the PM I received from Mario about 10 days after I joined MWO, in December of 2009. It is just an example of the kind of support Mario gave both in posts on the boards and in PM's.

Even tho', as I said earlier, I suspected something had happened to Mario, I've been thinking of him all day and finding it really hard to get my head around this. He was such a kind, simple man who was always there for others. And as someone said - with a wicked sense of humour. And such a great example of how someone can completely turn their lives around. I expect most of us have read his story and it's truly amazing that he got himself out of the depths of alcohol and drugs considering what he had gone through as a kid and later in his life. I know he religiously went to meetings and stayed on the sober highway. Such a shame...

I'm so sorry to hear about Mario's passing. I didn't know him well, but he always seems such a larger than life character, with a kind soul. Hugs to all this who were close to him too.

Good morning all. I am still feeling so shocked and devastated with yesterdays news. The Mario we knew would have been trying to sort out a friend in trouble and would not have been part of anything else. I believe that he still had his life on track. Many times he said the reasons he came back here was to help if he could. That was his mantra and that is how he was living his life. I keep remembering all the times we met him. He was one of the most genuine people I have ever met and his motives for going to Colombia would have again been to help someone out of a situation and he would have had no judgement. Of that I am certain. Rest in peace gentle Mario

Hi folks... I know... it's been a few years. Just saw the news about Mario and wanted to say how sorry I am. I didn't know him other than his postings here and meeting him once in Dublin, but as has been said by many on this thread, I remember a gentle, kind soul with only good words to say.

                          Hope you are all well.

Re: Join the Army Against Alcohol-August 2017

The passing of our friend Mario has come as a tremendous shock to us all, the manner of his passing horrendous. I knew Mario for many years and met him on a number of occasions both with other members here and just us two. I knew Mario grew up in what was a very rough part of Dublin and had served some time in prison as a young man but he had grown up, faced his demons and come out the other side a stronger, more caring human being. He was nothing but a friend to me personally and a constant source of help, support and encouragement to everyone on MWO. The high esteem in which he was held by other members here is obvious to see by all the posts on this thread in the last 24 hours. What is also now obvious is that Mario still knew some very heavy people from where he grow up. It is totally wrong for any of us to speculate as to what his level of involvement was or to his reasons for being so far from home and I don't wish for toady's thread to turn into that but it now looks to have been an awful misjudgement on his part and for that he paid the ultimate price. Rest in peace my friend, you won't be forgotten.

KTAB - beautifully put. It has indeed been a great shock to all of us. I remember reading how happy he was telling us about getting engaged to Mrs. Mario and his plans for the future and how he had a good relationship with his kids. Just such a bloody shame!!!
