Re: Join the Army Against Alcohol-August 2017

Evening,
RunningCourage........just the thing you want to deal with........but the poor wee lad.....perhaps his parents have told him he can't have a 56" TV with surround sound for his birthday and he couldn't find a means of vocalising his disappointment in a correct manner.

Got to my sister in law's and they've got two kittens. With the last of their daughter's off to Uni in a couple of weeks they're preparing for an empty nest..............don't think an empty nest exists the beggars keep coming back.

Howdy..
My homemade curry sounds a bit pathetic compared to that feast JC. Indian food seems to fill me up so much more than other food, I smell it and Im bursting at the seams. RunningCourage - interesting day. My sisters school sounds very like yours :egad: Hats off to you all..
lashing here all evening so it was.

Good morning,
Back to curries............Mr JC got a curry cookery book for his birthday in June and spent most of yesterday making 6 litres of base curry sauce...........bit like a big pan of curryfied vegetable stock so its to hand every time he makes one of the curries. Its all in the freezer now.

Chips! I'll bring the chips!

evening all. hope you've all been having top tuesday. A better day here - inasmuch as I wasn't sworn at, indeed, the chap in question stood with me at the start of school in the hall chatting away as if it had never happened. That's the thing about school (and life...) - each day is a new day, and what's the point of looking back when we are all moving forward?

Man flu, however, seems to affect my hearing. Kept on saying WHA?!?! at the poor kids who were trying to answer my questions. One wee girl rolled her eyes at me and I could read her mind thinking "jeez... what a douchebag this old man, like can he not teach or wot?!"

Right, will maybe call back in a bit - off to read for Uni... (Yawn)

Oh yes and bring the chips, big fat ones. Anyone up for the peshwari naans and a few chapatis.

Good morning everyone. Teaching is a real vocation, hope Jenny enjoys it. Not working today but have a lot to catch up on. Also getting the hair done. Don't know where last 6 weeks have disappeared to. Might try and get a nice walk in too. Did long hike at the weekend and really enjoyed it.

Morning,
Hair cut day here today as well, Rustlers. Going to the hairdressers..........usually I've got a woman who comes to the house but forgotten to book her. Must go as my fringe is so long I keep bumping into things.

Jenny loves the sciences and maths.........always has ..........unlike her Ma and Pa who like words and books.

Good morning all. I have a daughter who teaches primary and although she loves it, she finds the pressure of all the paperwork, unobtainable targets for the young children etc. exhausting. Also spends each evening and all of Sunday preparing work for the week ahead. (loves the holidays though)

Do you ever stop still, Mrs A?

First time in a proper hair for donkey's years and even though I say so myself........my hair is fabulous.

Luckily Jenny's got a friend who's been teaching a few years now so she's picking up some tips from her.

Do you have to hit targets in the UK? What happens if you dont hit them? Thats a bit nuts?

So much going on this week, expected and unexpected, Im in a spin. I just keep thinking, imagine trying to pull this off with a hangover

It is indeed gorgeous JC. Not computer literate enough to post pic of mine. Hope you ok Mary, at least you are dealing with it clear headed. Well done Anon, bet you enjoyed. Planning my next walking weekend already, it would be a shame to let the level of fitness I have built up over the past year go. Did it gradually and enjoyed my hikes, good for the head as well as the body. Too old to be doing anything I don't enjoy at this age. Speaking of enjoying, my crochet classes start back tomorrow so really looking forward to that. Waves to everyone I did not mention.

Howdy doody.

OK, i have to admit that i pride myself in not getting ill that often, say once a year, maybe twice. Never take a day off work, and generally after a few days am feeling back to normal. MAN-FLU continues to linger :egad: and all life seems somewhat distant and fuzzy. Nae a happy camper. Am sure it's just a combo of being back at (2) schools, so with up to 500 kids and their nasty germs (which they themselves have become immune to), the oscillating weather of late, and the fact that i'm back to being, well, somewhat busy.

Big waves to you mrs a. Outer Hebrides I'm sure was very bonnie - my recent sojourn to Skye is the closest i've got to there. Your daughter's experience sounds just like every teacher I know.

Hello Mary - It is nuts. Firstly, England and Scotland have different education systems so can only really comment on the Scottish one. Aye, there are targets as such, but they're rather oblique. For example, Scotland has targets to "close the attainment gap" and as such every LA, school and class teacher is expected to be able to show how they are doing that. One of the biggest pressures I find as a teacher is the endless initiatives that schools and teachers are expected to take on and do on top of their teaching, as well as the various "tests" and constant push (read targets) for getting children from one stage to the next. More often than not the stress for class teachers comes from above (Heads and Local Authorities) which, albeit unintentionally, can filter down into the class environment.... How, I ask, can you create a calm, engaging and fun learning environment, when the teacher is stressed out his/her box?!?!

Rant over.

Right... off to concoct some sausagey thingy for dinner...

I've got a moan and groan and a piece of warm and fuzzy.

Moan and groan..........our Jenny still hasn't had the full go ahead for teacher training and they're umming and ahhing over her health check...........she was treated for depression and anxiety a few years back. All good now through talking therapies and NPL. We all thought it was a done deal.

Warm and fuzzy...........got invited to a birthday party for one of the lads at work..........I hope you know what I mean when all of a sudden I felt I belonged there.

absolutely, can handle so much more now, without a melt down. 3 text/whats app messages this week from mammys suggesting large glasses of wine, not just for me, generally.. mammys little helper, wine o'clock, blah de blah - its shocking really how womens drinking habits have changed in the last decade or 2, apparently mens habits are much the same. I suppose there are many factors, but the drinking companies have really sold us The Crutch.

Im more familiar with secondary school practices, but I do see a lot of similarities, but I dont think its at that level.. It really would put you off entering the profession. There will be less and less calm, engaging teaching. Now that Im thinking about it, one of my daughters had the loveliest teacher last year, very young and enthusiastic, but you knew she was struggling with paperwork, there till all hours, parents giving out yards - she was moved to a resource position this year.. lucky kids who get her..
