Re: Join the Army Against Alcohol-September 2017
satz123 - there's a load of folks here who give such sage advice. Thinking of you and young Satz. Not sure i can add anything, but to say that Molls' rusty JC and tabbers' posts essentially nail it, i think. The road to recovery is not bought or given, but practised. There may well be failures along the way. And I believe success on that road only begins when "I" (i.e. any one of us) not just recognises the problem, but takes responsibility of the problem to change our self for the better. Not easy. We are creatures of habit and don't necessarily like change. But when that habit proves detrimental, even dangerous, change becomes necessary. And to have the patience to allow our self to be able to change.
Doc - you know this, cos you is uber wise. Probably just trying to work it out myself.
Hope youse all is well, troops.Last edited by RunningCourage; September 24, 2017, 11:47 AM.

Young Satz is on his way here to get clean in a controlled environment - ( + the gf told him she needed a break from the shit).
He tells me he as the shakes very bad and anxiety through the roof ......
I have dinner & drugs for anxiety ( 1 lonely Xanex) that Mr S didn't use on the last plane trip.

He'll probably be a state Benj -- don't let it melt your heart - he will grab onto any justification... not being mean about him -- just remembering myself... thinking of you xxxContentedly sober since 27/12/2011

Re: Join the Army Against Alcohol-September 2017
I know you’ll be the strong, supporting mom you’ve always been Satz, you both can get through this!Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

Satz - Just wanted to tell you that I'm sending you loads of love and positive thoughts. I am so sorry for the heartbreak you are going thru. Lots of good advise you are getting here. :heartbeat:"Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.".....Carol Burnett

Found a read that doesn't come with umpteen adverts for different re-habs.
Alcohol Withdrawal: Symptoms, Treatment and Alcohol Detox Duration
My thoughts ......see how he goes tonight. I'd expect a long, sweaty one. Water with lemon juice is a godsend. If at any point he starts rambling/becomes incoherent or seeing things get him to ER as quick as possible...........honest Satz, me darling I'm not trying to frighten you just to arm you.
If getting him to ER is out of the question and he gets like this...... a double shot of a spirit (vodka/gin/whiskey) and downed like medicine will help for a few hours until you can get him to the doctors.
In the morning get him to the doctors............he sounds willing to do anything. Its probably best if you and Mr S may want to sit in with him...........I was like a child, so broken and confused so Mr JC and Jenny in with me when I was in seeing my doctor for my last detox. It could be worse, I could be filing.

Re: Join the Army Against Alcohol-September 2017
Thank you one & all ..... what a great group of people.
Jacks I don't think he's ready for ER yet.
He had the Xanex and ate a big dinner - he's just worried he won't sleep.
He's watching golf on tv - enough to make me sleep :haha:
We've all been there where that fear of not sleeping is awful - I know I was. But he'll just need to get over it and know it's the alcohol that causes that.

Re: Join the Army Against Alcohol-September 2017
Hello..
Great to see you satz123 and Molly.. sorry to hear your son's back in that bad place Satz, sounds like a rough few days - Hope your doing ok this evening. The penny dropped for us all, maybe this is his time.
Good weekend away, I was dreading it - hanging out with people I didnt know and explaining that I didnt drink. Everyone asked me polite questions, how long, do you miss it, but not WHY - once that was out of the way, I relaxed and actually really enjoyed it. Had I been drinking, Id have had my eye on the bottle the whole time and conversation, being in the moment, would have been secondary.AF - July 19th 2015 :happy2:

IamMary......another experience under your belt.
satz123.........that was very much a just in case.........I've seen a couple of alcohol induced seizures and they're not pretty.
After my initial de-tox I usually didn't sleep for more than 3 hours..........I felt like superwoman.........I remember making about 40 ginger bread men for the S&H's girlfriend to take back to Uni by 7am one day. Poor Mr JC had a full cooked breakfast shoved under his nose most days at 6:30am ...........then he started begging for cornflakes. It could be worse, I could be filing.

Re: Join the Army Against Alcohol-September 2017
Morning folks, sleeping the sleep of a man with a clear conscious theses days so I am. The one thing that amazed me when I got sober was my dreaming again, something I hadn't been doing for years. And in the morning my remembering where I left something the night before instead of having to search around for it.
Remind me again, exactly what downsides are there to stopping drinking?Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?
