Looking out my window looks sunny out today I love the winter sun but not looking forward to the short nights.
Stirly I totally agree that we need support. I find talking to another alcoholic helped me a lot coming on here was my first step. I was so grateful for mwo that there was people that could understand the way I felt about being a alcoholic. ( the guilt and shame around it). And how hard it was to try to stay stopped. Going to AA helped me meeting people face to face I had to see it to believe it HOW it works Honesty, Openness & Willingness. And the big one, ,, key to Acceptance . I must say I take my hat off to your friend doing this on his own. I knew I couldn't.
It getting on nearly 9am need to get ready to book GP appointment need to be the first one calling to get a appointment. Got college later I might go in early to cover some work to make sure I know it of the top of my head.

Satzy - good to see you. My sister and I landed on the island of Crete in March of 1973 - I was 20, she was 18. Stayed in Heraklion for 5 days in the cold and rain then decided to head to supposedly warmer climes on the south of the island. Took a bus from there to Agia Galini - drove through a small blizzard in the mountains on the way there. We stayed there for 2 or 3 nights and were quite taken by that charming little town.:heart: Wee goats hopped along the paths in front of us and we ate moussaka there for the first time. The weather was cold so we decided to go back to Heraklion and take a bus to Ierapetra where we stayed til the 20th of August when we left to go back to Canada. I have loved Crete ever since - it is a world unto itself and the people have their own ways and customs, not to mention their own accent and dialect. Yes, Molly, the older men can be chauvinistic but it has to do with the way they were raised and mainly their mothers had to do with that. I believe the younger generation is much less so, but I could be wrong. Younger son was engaged to a girl who's mother lives outside Rethymno and he had some wonderful vacations there - loved the area. Now both of you - what was your favourite food that you ate there? I'm always curious about that. Cretan food is considered to be some of the best health-wise as far as the Mediterranean cuisine goes. They do have some outstanding cheeses and of course, all of the local produce that goes into making the dishes they serve.
Mary - my "new" friend is really an old love whom I have gotten back into contact with since the first week of June. We've known each other for 31 years but due to circumstances (family responsibilities) and our age difference - (he's 12 years younger than I am) - our relationship has never been out in the open. Only my closest girlfriends know about him and younger son knows about the relationship now but doesn't know that it's been going on for so long. His name is Konstandinos - accent on the "i" and it just happens to be one of my favourite Greek names. We have reconnected at a time that both of us needed each other - fate sometimes does the right thing at the right time - and it is wonderful to have him in my life again.:heartbeat:Nuf of that...
Back to do some more bookkeeping - the only part of my job I dislike intensely and therefore always put it off until I can't put it off anymore.:grumpy:

Well it was the chauvinism of the younger men that amazed me -- you sort of expect it in older men of any nationality - but yeah -- the younger ones are usually more clued in... that did amaze me..
Food --- well the salads imo were second to none -- the combinations they used were just fabulous - and the dressings -- and there's a what they call 'bitter sweet' cheese on the menu -- never got the proper name for it - but it was fabulous - and even their feta tasted so much better than what we get over here..
other than that - I lost my appetite when I was over there so didn't partake of much meat or anything - but Joe loved everything presented to him
Evening Catch - good on you with the bookkeeping -- I was never great at that -- the only way I could work out a balance sheet was thinking which side that I thought an item should be on and then putting it on the other side... deffo not my forté!!!

Shopping late on a Monday night, you should have said, Molls, I'd have had yer tea ready.
Smiley faces all round at seeing the nurse at the doctors.....really pleased with me not smoking and thought I would get a smack round the earhole for using an e-giggie but they're very OK with that. Had my flu jab which means that as well as sore toe I've got a sore arm.........I know first world problems.
Three years ago since my friend, Norm, died. Bloody weird that I found a photo of us together yesterday.
I did old fashioned book keeping when I was at the wine merchants..........I just about did a victory roll in the air if it balanced first time.
Stirls, happiness comes when we least expect it and I'm glad its arrived for you.It could be worse, I could be filing.

All that talk about greece makes me... jealous. Never been, but it's one of those places I want to visit... maybe do the Athens marathon one day?!
Not much to write home about.... as yis can probably tell.

As indeed yiz aren't eejits Tabbers -- a less chauvinistic bunch you can't get than younger Irish men (talk bout double/triple negatives going on there) -- basically what I'm saying is - generally Irish men are not chauvinistic and hence why I was so surprised at the younger men in Crete...Originally posted by Tabbers (a.k.a. Molly:Yes, you are correct. Someone here a long time ago did some research and found the reason that there are more women than men in Recovery forums because a lot of men feel it's a sign of weakness to discuss to admit they have a problem with AL and then talk about it in any kind of therapy (online or in-person) session. Yet, it seems like more men than women go to AA. I have no idea about AA as I've never been to a meeting.Spose mebbe men are less willing to open up their innermost thoughts? Could that be it?

Empy-yes, men get lonely too. AL is a lonely disease and it causes us to isolate ourselves. I am glad you are here with us.
