    Scared to death :(

Greetings: I'm a longtime member here but have been away for a LONG time (no doubt you know what I've been doing). Yesterday I went to the doc for some abdominal pain and today I got bloodwork results back -- the liver counts are terrifying. I am set to have an abdominal ultrasound on Monday and more lab work. I'm scared to death and really have no one in my real life to talk to. I have already quit drinking (fourth day sober) and know I can't drink again. But damn, this is scary. Any words of support welcome .. I'm bawling ... thanks, guys.
:boxer: Get the hell out of my house, Al, you worthless bastard!!

Hi Dex — Welcome back. I’m sorry to hear about your health issues. I know no alcohol will help physically and emotionally. You will become stronger as the days mount. By the end of your fourth day, your body will be alcohol free — well done! I suggest you head over to the Newbies Nest thread - it’s a very active thread and helped me get, and stay, sober for more than 3 years. If I can, you can too.

Hello Dexter, welcome back, we have both been here a long time. Sorry you are finding yourself in this situation health wise and yes it is bloody scary but the liver is capable of healing if given the chance and that means stopping poisoning it, easier said that done, trust me I know. But 4 days in and you are at least giving yourself a chance, maybe this is the wake up call you need for what is the alternative? You can do this, you just might not realise it, but it is within all of us to stop the madness, I truly believe this.
Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

Welcome back, Dex. You know you will always be welcomed and forgiven here. I think you know your way around here but don’t be afraid to ask questions.
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

Welcome back, Dex. Well done on 4 days! I agree with Tabbers, your liver can repair itself to some extent as long as you stop poisoning it! I have a dear friend that has advanced cirrhosis but somehow seems to think it is still ok for him to drink! I can tell such a difference in him when he stops for awhile. But it doesn't last. Don't let that be you! Strength to you!

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Welcome back, Dex. I sure you're scared, and have so far taken the right steps. Four day in at this point is great, keep it going, you can do this. Let's hope the damage done is still reversalble. Sending you strength friend.

                Hi, Dexter--

Sorry for what you're going through. I don't know what the outcome of your scans will be, but the only possible outcome for quitting alcohol is better than the alternative. For getting out of your fear and anxiety, have you ever tried meditating? It can help you be in the present instead of in the future worrying (sounds hippy dippy, I know, but it really works).

Take care of yourself, eat well, drink plenty of water, get some sleep. You need to rely on yourself going forward - to face what is next and to support yourself in staying sober.

                Sending you positive thoughts.

                  Welcome back Dex!

You did the right thing by quitting drinking immediately upon getting that news. I'm sure you are scared so stick with us for support.
The liver can do quite a bit of self repair as long as you don't drink.

Wishing you the very best & stay in touch

                    Dexter

I remember you and your cat avatar.

All I wish to share is that I decided to put EVERYTHING I had into finding a way out because I didn't want to get to a point where my body went past the point of no return. I'd have never forgiven myself for that.

Much of this damage can be reversed so please, please do what I did and give yourself the best present ever - get AF and STAY AF.
