            Morning troops

Up early today. Day off but so much to do. Got the moving in date AT LAST! For Friday....thence beginneth the real new chapter...

Yesterday at work was unbelievable. The night before (Sunday) was a party night for most of my colleagues. I was working because I wasn't there at Christmas, being a hotel, it is impossible to hve a Christmas party at the appropriate time so the replacement do was Sunday.
All I can really say about that event is "Thank God I was working and couldn't go".
Yesterday I got in for the late shift...yeah 2pm... and first saw the (more senior than me) Manager I was taking over from...he STANK of alcohol. That was repeated amongst almost all staff on duty...apparently the festivities carried on until 6 am....
I felt compelled to speak to the boss/owner who simply asked me "are they functioning" my reply was "after a fashion"
He told me to let them be as it had been a work function and so there wasn't much that could be done! I was flabergasted and had to disobey him and send a chef home because it was just plain dangerous having him in the kitchen...I'm expecting some flack from that but I shall completely stand by my own decision...
Unbelievable the state of them. Thankfully Mondays are usually very quiet, but even so the guest experience cannot have been good.
I am utterly amazed by it all and so thankful I was not a part of it!

Good morning Army!!! Hello from a wet and cold Athens - a mere 9C when I left for work at 7:30.

Geester - your comments made me laugh right out loud! One of the things dearest about our Molls is that she can give you the greatest of advice whilst dropping F-bombs!!

Arsey - in this fair country, the good housewives (hate that word) used to iron everything including the towels. My own dear Mother-in-law once told me that if you snap your towels, you know - give them a hearty shake so that they make a snapping sound - that it actually fluffs them up and makes them softer than ironing. That was just another reason I adored my MIL - she only had a few years of schooling but she was wise in ways no education can give you - wouldn't waste her time on unnecessary stuff!

Mary - I love what you said about wrinkles. Mind you I don't have a lot for being 65 but the ones around my eyes are my "smile wrinkles" and I love those!! I guess if we get to be the age of that lady in the picture, we should be very grateful for every wrinkle we have. Now as for the rest of the body, I guess we can't fight gravity so it's go with the flow!!!!!!!

Jackie - good example of how kids should view the money their parents make. It's ours, not theirs. They get to spend theirs when they make it!

Molls - we cut up our credit cards long ago. I have a bank card but almost never use it. Can be too tempting. Mind you when we did have a credit card I spent more than I should have - not more than we had, but more than was necessary. That's one of the reasons it got the scissor job!

Okay - we need a roll call - Startypants, KTABs, Mrs. A, and anyone else who has been MIA for a while. Just a quck post to let us know you're ok!!

Wishing you all an enjoyable week. Yesterday being a holiday, my work week starts today!!
For every 60 seconds that you are angry, you lose a minute of happiness.

Love the sound of your MIL Stirls.
On the Credit Card - why not spend. I'm with Joe on this one. SPEND ..... you can't bring it with you and I'm deffo not leaving it for someone else to spend :shakingno:

And Mers - on the wrinkle front - come back to me my lovely in 20 years time :haha:

Morning all from a very jet lagged Whizzy. Slept for 12 hours again last night but still feel weird.
Loving all the ironing and credit card posts--you lot are hilarious.

                        Good Morning, Army,

I just wanted to thank you again for your support regarding my Mom moving into an assisted-living facility. I am delighted to report to you that she loves her new little apartment, the people are SO nice, and she wishes she had done this 2 years ago (when my sister encouraged her to do so). I have visited her twice and it is the best place for her as her condition continues to decline. Your support mean SO much to me. Several of you sent me lovely PMs and I am very grateful.

Even though I've been sober a good while, I still need to work on myself. Even though I try hard, I still tend to project a negative outcome when there is a major change or something challenging in my life. I must avoid this at all costs. It was a huge trigger for my drinking.

Thanks for letting me share my thoughts here and special thanks to Jackie, Molly, rustop, satz, and Mary for reaching out when I needed extra strength:happy2:.

Hope you are all having a lovely day!

Ah rusty - it's a huge time in anyone's life when their parents reach a vulnerable stage - we are terrified we'll get it wrong and I'm so happy you got it right - tbh I never doubted it cos you sound really caring - but of course - shit can happen despite our best efforts - but it hasn't and she's happy and THAT'S what matters. -- your self awareness is wonderful too - it comes with prolonged sobriety to most people - but from being in the rooms I know it certainly doesn't come to all -- so all good missus and stick around - we haven't seen much of you lately!!!

Jet lag is rotten Whizzy - only had it badly once coming back from the West Coast of the states - jeez I was a walking zombie for about a week! Had young kids too which didn't help!
Best get myself organised for work -- hey to everyone xx

Aw, thanks, Molly! I know I haven't been around but my sister, SIL, and I have been SO busy packing up my mom's stuff in her condo so we can sell it. Wow, she has accumulated a lot of stuff over the last 69 years or so! Check your inbox in about 10 minutes. ;-)

The assisted living sounds wonderful - and I hope she'll be very happy there.
Is it Dementia she is living with?

satz-No, my mom does not have dementia and I am so grateful, however, her short-term memory has really deteriorated over the last year or so. She actually looks and feels much younger now than she did when she was in her condo. I have this looming feeling that she is in her last months of her life and I am going to do everything I can to make sure I am spending as much time as possible with her.
