AND -- magnesium tablets without a doubt 'aided' my sleep - about 400mg's a day (mg's - I think....) taken earlier on in the day - it just balances the sleep a bit - no dramatic conking out like a sleeping tablet - but yeah -- deffo helped a bit..

torrential snow in Dundalk apparently - the secretary in the hospital was talking to Joe about his foot - she was far more interested in the snow haha

Good afternoon from a very snowy Merseyside. I was aching after doing my half marathon on Sunday I had not trained and did my slowest time ever but instead of feeling disappointed I was thrilled to finish.
Running for me is the opposite of booze--When I was drinking I usually felt good while having a session but crap when I came down. When running I often hate it but immediately after completing a race/run feel high as a kite.
Going to try the magnesium.

Re: Join the Army Against Alcohol-February 2018

Morning to all!

Happy day 12 to me. There is one benefit to ‘time flies’. I know 12 is not a big number of days, but it amazes me that we are at the end of February already, and it seems I was just posting day 3 or 4. I’ll stick to the positive and leave the negative with the flying broomstick and the ‘leave it alone pile’.

I’m doing pretty well on the no alcohol front. I did get a couple interrupting thoughts early evening to have ‘a’ cocktail (ha). I have two drinkers in the household. One is a heavy drinker. I heard the clinking of the drink being made and it was a small trigger, but ‘if one, why not none’? It didn’t take my mind long to squash it in it tracks, so that’s a good sign; albeit, I’m not under any harsh trauma or triggers at the moment. I need to stay equipped with my armour for any such moments or periods of time. It’s a daily duty now to put that armour on.

Agree with all on the magnesium. I used to take epsom salt baths daily for my aching muscles/body. It helped. It’s magnesium sulfate and known to help relax muscles. I’ve been taking Magnesium Citrate, a more absorbable oral form, with a Calcium Citrate tablet at night before bed. I noted some difference, but I found this packet of Magnesium that had 255 mg you mix with water. That prompted me to check my dosage on the one I was taking. It only had 100 mg content. So, last night I ordered a package of packets with the 255 mg amount. You need 400 mg a day. I’m going to try that to help with my insomnia. The 100 mg doesn’t help enough, and I’d rather take one packet than 3 pills.

Molly, I too, sleep with my computer next to my bed. I put earplugs in and listen to various things to fall asleep or when I wake up in the night. I with you, I know, I know...not good to have electronics in bed. Not good for me right now not to have them. I picked up the habit after my losses. I could not handle the nightmares and things that snuck into my brain while sleeping. I learned that listening to something else during my sleep kept my mind focused away from the horror that was playing out in my sleeping thoughts. I still use it for that a bit, but find it useful for the sleep issues. That unswerving singleness of purpose has to come first. I’ll get to the others when I can manage to chew gum and walk at the same time.

Satz, not for today. The doctor gave me a 90 day script, so I’ll leave that for stronger sea legs. The storm hasn’t calmed nearly enough in my head and body to tackle it now. Funny meme. I see many of those around the internet, and I always get a chuckle.

RC, just be sure to thank your mom from time to time. Moms listen; the love and concern never leaves even if the umbilical cord has thinned as it needs to do. Posting this reply reminds me of a stamped quote I put on an art piece I made. I have it on my desk.

“No hurt survives for long without our help, she said & then she kissed me & sent me out to play again for the rest of my life.”

Yes -- the audiobook keeps me from thinking - it just plays all night - and actually it helps me track how much I actually sleep - I sometimes THINK I'm awake all night - but if I've missed hours of chapters -- well - I wasn't awake and that makes me feel better.. I've lately gone for a series of The Great Courses on audio - I learn things- not much - but even one thing every day(night) that I didn't know the day before... result!!!! Guessing you know all the tricks of quitting Tom - you sound very clued in - but the ONE cocktail scenario - well I taught myself to see it through to the end... and in latter years - that wasn't pretty - drinking till 'asleep' -- cold on the couch - 3am - did I upset anyone - getting up and trying to get into bed quietly so no one knew I had been up till then - waking with the 'fear' - the poxy horrible fear.... no no no

Evening all!!!

Evening........

Crusader.........complementary suit of armour for you.

Got into town no bother despite the panic from the news about snow..........think we're getting the heavier stuff tonight..........dreadful hail storm this afternoon.........our Bess had a wee lollop in the garden in the snow........not bad for a 13+ year old labrador. Yes I did throw a snowball and yes I did laugh like a drain when she went to fetch it........the look on her face was priceless when she couldn't find it. :welldone:
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Quick poke of my head in the army door before bed.

Fecking cold. Naff all snow - odd flurry but nothing to write about. Which begs the question why I just wrote about it.

magnesium - thank you JC, satz, Tom for all your advice/recommendations. When I get a mo at the weekend will try find some.

Gotta scoot.

Wrap up warm, hope the stews made keep yer bellies full and content.

Ah that’s great Satz. Only a smattering of snow here. Glad I’m not working tomorrow, going to bunker down, maybe crochet, no real plan. Nite everyone.

No Molly, it's not my first rodeo unfortunately. I did have a long span of time without alcohol flowing through my body besides as a child. In MWO member differences, we all know the similarities. It really is a slow suicide for many.

Why thank you, Lady Jackie.

I logged on because I forgot to mention Potassium to RC. Potassium in good for leg cramps. Eat your bananas or potatoes with the skin on.
