the perceiving drinking as normal and this non-drinking as abnormal ... and I wonder whether we are "still addled with the drink even after x-weeks/months" as long as we are perceiving non-drinking as abnormal...and therefore likely idolising the opportunity/chance we get for a drink (even if it's months in the future). Dunno if that made sense. It did to me when I thought it!
            Makes total sense.
I think RC that - in a nutshell - is why young Satz keeps relapsing. And I believe he will keep relapsing as long as he thinks that way.

Poor lamb......do we need to send flowers yet

Love a weekend away but its only 54,720 minutes, 912 hours, 38 days, 5 weeks and 3 days 'til we're on holiday for a week.

I suppose getting off your face has been around since cave person days.....so its hard to turn it around. Another question (s) probably for tomorrow now........how long will it be before its just one of those things not drinking.......or perhaps being questioned about why we don't drink.......will admitting you're a recovering addict be as common as saying you had measles (bit over simplifying there).

Re: Join up! Army against the grog!!! March 2018

I’m off too, just a quick check in. Hope you feeling better Molly and that all is ok chez Satz.

Regarding your comment last night JC, think Irish society in particular needs a major overhaul and change in attitude towards alcohol. It’s getting worse I think. Last week a bus full of teenagers had to be hospitalized because of pure over indulgence. Maybe it has to get worse before it gets better?

Also... I wonder how many people may drink somewhat excessively, but not necessarily "alcoholically" (don't like that term - misleading) and not think about/let it consume their thoughts...despite damage it may be doing??
Been thinking about this one RC.
I know lots of people who drink excessively, but not necessarily "alcoholically" - Mr S being one.
After the great snow 'lock in' he headed to the pub. They had run out of Guinness due to the holiday atmosphere that day :egad: .... so he came home after a glass of lager..

Now put Young Satz or any of us here in same boat - what would we do ???
I know for me any alcohol would do : a Brandy (warming) a lager (quench the thirst) a gin & tonic ( refreshing) ....... and off I'd go. Then of course ....... home to top up. He would NEVER drink alone - nor would he drink in the house. He is one of the pub drinkers Molls refers to - drinks to excess but can take or leave it.
I think that for me shows that elusive 'line' - and we've crossed it.

                    Sorry I'm rambling
Molls hope you are being spoiled by Joe !
I am mitching the gym - too feckin' lazy.

Joe drank the same as you describe MrS - but it was DEFFO too much.....I remember - funny it was the first time I ever ever got an 'uneasy' feeling about how much I may be enbibing - this is LONG before it became a problem - could be 15 years ago... I was watching a programme about ambassadors to other countries - this particular woman - she was middle-aged - VERY glam - and she was the British ambassador to some exotic far east sort of country - she described her day - which did involve quite a lot of champagne cocktail sort of things - at functions etc... she said categorically that she had genuinely never been drunk in her life - just gentle sociable topping up - topping up --- she had irreversible cirrhosis of the liver - and had a limited time to live -- it hit me VERY hard - not that I was a champagne cocktail type of drinker - but the way she described it... it was really really scary - and right up to the end of my drinking I would regularly remember her story...
that's sort of apropos of nothing I s'pose

Two other types of drinkers who are imo every much problematic drinkers as an out and out addict - one of my sisters - 3-4 glasses of wine she became argumentative - fighting with her shadow - rowing with people then driving home drunk - crying etc... BUT -- she never drank much more than 3-4 drinks...

One other - an ex-friend of mine (she dumped me when I quit drinking) - really didn't drink a fearsome amount - would always have been one behind me in the pub - and I don't think drank much at home -- but jesus - she thought about drinking all the time - if we were going out to the theatre or anything - when would we hit the booze - would we have wine at the intermission.... much more so than my addict type pre-planning -- but deffo drank less than me....

Off out to buy Joe a lego set ----- DON'T ASK!!!!

Crazy! That was me, too. Drinking even if if I didn't feel like it. And ending up drunk again. Just crazy!

It's not even that you didn't feel like it - it is you HAD to do it. Once you had started.
My problems started when I discovered the 'hair of the dog' / the 'cure' the drink next day to stave off a bad hangover.
I can remember the most horrendous hangovers - but you just stayed put & suffered them.
But after that discovery of a drink curing it - it was game on.
