What you want to do next ?
Did you fall catastrophically off the wagon ?
How did you feel ?
Get back here & post. You don't have to be sober to post here ya know?
As to what to do next - in practical terms, it's simple: it's the hols - so i can "get away" with drinking. Come next term I have little doubt that i'll be back on the wagon, or most definitely not drinking during the week. Because I don;t want to be. Because I want my focus to be on what I can do as a teacher, as a person... not on a wee hit I can give myself at night.
Fall catastrophically - not as such. Em.. suppose it's kinda relative... it was a bit black and white...as in i went straight back to where I was in Dec/Jan... but tbh, i kinda expected that, as I was kinda 'wanting' that: i.e. I didn't want "a drink with dinner", I wanted to get pleasantly drunk (by myself?!?)... not to the point that I'd totally screw the next day, but certainly feeling the effects of having drunk the night before.
How did I feel? A bit odd - guilty? - weak? - not worthy? - YET, it also felt normal. A pint. In the pub.
The reason I said I didn't want to speak about it is essentially because what i was coming to feel was that ACTUALLY, I was living a more negative life... It's difficult to explain... basically other negative elements of how I live life became more acute. If AL is part of my life, yes it IS negative in how it can affect me emotionally/psychologically but it also muffles other negative aspects of my thinking/being. Which, ironically, perhaps benefits me.
SORRY - that was so fecking cryptic. Never a great fan if others do that, cos yer like "eh, wtf is she/he speaking about?!?!"
[Have had a few beers. Just being honest.]
Molls, JC, Stirly - mucho thanks for your thoughts and words - ALWAYS appreciated. :hug:Last edited by RunningCourage; April 3, 2018, 04:56 PM.

This is debatable but I do believe it is SO much more difficult for a single man like you and young Satz to quit and stay quit than us older folks who are settled and content with life. We've had a long innings.
We are done striving to build careers & relationships etc and all that goes with that..... this is IMVHO !
So I applaud you in your trying :applause:

Stand back........I'm in sick bay.
Best of luck to Joe.
The car's 15 years old and we've had it 6.........yep we used string......but just had a call to say it can be fixed and will be back without the hideous rattling tonight.
When I'm feeling better we'll get to the bottom of this, Arsey (no pun intended). It could be worse, I could be filing.

So you drank because you were on holiday? Now you are drinking every day ?
Is that REALLY what you want ?
Is a few pints in the pub enough ? or do you top up at home ?
This may be simplistic but in my world this is where we differ from 'normies' - we never seem to have enough. And realistically alcohol is a tiny part of life as a whole but we make it HUGE because of our addiction to it. Socially, it is unacceptable to drink every day to excess. Maybe if all of us were put on an island we'd be grand. Maybe one a day dying ?
This is why we have to stop - before we do damage. My doctor the other day told me he is dealing with a 41 year old who is still holding down a Government job - but "drinking himself to death" every day alone in his apartment. If he didn't have the Government job he'd have hit the bottom sooner & be dead by now.
He has developed cirrhosis of the liver - all that's left is a transplant.
The doc suggested a psychologist for young Satz to get to the bottom of WHY he drinks - because of the continuous relapses and living as a 'dry drunk'.
Sorry for rambling - just putting down what's in my head ............ :egad:

Afternoon - and hiya Mick... good to see you round here!!! - Just back from the hospital - he was going down to get the job done when I left and I still haven't heard from him - but guessing if he'd died or anything they'd have contacted me haha!!! only joking of course - they decided not to give him a general anaesthetic cos they can administer better pain relief afterwards with an epidural apparently - so guessing he's floating on a morphine cloud as we speak!!!
Two things - #1 - they told him that they had never encountered a 65 year old who had no medical history whatsoever - had no GP for the same reason - had never taken medication for anything - ever - and if I hadn't been there corroborating the info. they'd have 'dug deeper' (their words for lying haha!!!)
#2 - place full of English people - apparently our health care is far superior to theirs and they get it free - the man in Joe's room said the waiting list for his procedure on the NHS was 4 years and in Ireland it was a few months... and he said lots of folks are horrified by Brexit cos they won't be able to access the same treatment --- WHO'DA THUNK????Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011

Maybe there is something to learn from them ?
Or is it us treating them too well ?
