Re: Join up!! Army against the grog !!! April 2018
Morning all, it seems like all who have left the corporate life (Jax and Satz) are finally at peace. Hmmmm. More thoughts to add to my little baby plans.
My immediate boss has given me another bod to help. Little Ugandan lad with no experience Lets see how that works out. Plus they have employed another lad in his 20's to manage 6 of us old timers. Oh and he has no experience in any of our specialised fields Lets see how that works out....
Woke with an awful headache at 3. Took some ibuprofen and some more just now. Funny how I am careful to space them out when they are just ibuprofen but when adding codeine will take 8 at a time!
blood tests back and all is OK. Still dont feel great but now know it must be just stress/wds that are causing my ills. Being very gentle with meself.
Hope you all have a lovely day xxx

Morning all! Good to see you Tom - missed you for a while - yup keep the things coming!!!
A job is just a job - maybe in our 20's or 30's we can focus on the 'career' - we all did - but when we move along - really it needs to be (imo) the tool we use (money) to enjoy a fuller life - and I do like earning money - it makes me feel I'm worth it to someone... I shouldn't feel like that - but I do - but I would never want to go back to the 12 hour days (3-4 hour commute often) - and it needs to take a back seat when we are in recovery - also in my opinion - because there's a lot of work - head work mainly - needed to go into a successful recovery - there needs to be more to life than work home eat sleep - if there isn't - well what's the point in NOT making it 'nicer' with some substance... or we get to feel we 'need' something to lift the stress/monotony/boredom...
This 6 weeks is a real indicator to me that what I say above is true - I'm only a week into being the housewife/cleaner/cooker/problem solver - as well as a full-time job - and I'm already feeling aggrieved -- and as I say that's only the 6 weeks while Joe is in the cast - can only imagine I would be reaching out for some sort of solace if this was a long-term situation...Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011

I feel your pain with Joe. Blokes are rubbish patients and especially if they are generally active. I hope you dont kill him before the 6 weeks are up

Re: Join up!! Army against the grog !!! April 2018
evening..
Just to be awkward, I work for a multinational and sort of like my job :eeks:
Well, Ive a fair boss (who is horizontal in the middle of chaos) and a short commute so both of those help. Im there years, but have only really found my mojo in the years since I gave up the booze. Didnt happen straight away mind you, takes a while to build up the confidence.
I did love being part time though, Id go back to that in a heartbeat!AF - July 19th 2015 :happy2:

They say you never leave a job - you leave a boss - so maybe that's the key.
I dunno - I think I just burnt out ....... and was ready for change.

Re: Join up!! Army against the grog !!! April 2018
My co have always treated me well so that helps. My immediate boss is a bit of a chameleon phsyco nutter who I think is feeling the pressure now as she has stuck it out for a year (whoo hoo, I have done it for 7) Although she seems quite careful with me, she can be awful to and about the others so I have no doubt that she has the potential to be a cow. Gonna go back to the docs this morning. Still not sleeping so will see what he says about that.
Been researching my retirement pensions and I think ultimately will be OK which is a relief. Just got to get through the next 5 years or contribute at some level for 5 years to get the full state pension in 12 years.

That's good starty! Our state pension is rubbish - 245 euros a week but ill get that in 6 years time and a small pension from my job so will retire then probably - will have worked long enough!
