rustop59 do you work with horses? I am insanely nuts about horses, and until a few years ago, had 5 of my own.

starty and IamMary (The nosy ones) :congratulatory: My training was actually in Veterinary technology, and I worked as an animal nurse for 20 plus years. As you can imagine, the job is often physically demanding, especially since we did a lot of work with cattle and horses. I loved the work, but unfortunately, my body didn't, so I went back to school for medical assisting. I took a job with an ophthalmologist, and was soon plunged into one of the most toxic work environments that I have ever been in. I stayed for 2 years, until both my physical and mental health declined to such a level, that I knew that I had to try something else. I saw an ad for a Senior Companion, and did some research on the job. Turns out the field is growing rapidly, with lots of jobs out there. I work with people with dementia and Alzheimer's, mostly in their homes, but wherever the client happens to be. The job can be demanding, (people with Alzheimer's can be very mean) but the rewards are so worth it. The bulk of my day is spent trying to make someone's life as fulfilling as possible, which may include doing fun activities, med reminders, grocery shopping etc.... The woman I currently work with loves to play cards, and is making fast progress in deleting the contents of my wallet. I have worked with a variety of folks, some have become like family, others I have wanted to choke! The pay is actually better than I was making at my old job, but unfortunately, there are no benefits, although some companies do offer them. I am lucky enough to receive health care benefits through my husband, so that isn't a problem for me.

Molly, sorry about all of the @'s, but at least they weren't directed at you!

Hope that you all have a great day, and don't be afraid of change!
Brilliant Jude. I so admire you for doing that. I dont think it is something I could do. When I last got sober back in 2008 I left my corporate job trained as a counsellor and worked with people with mental health issues for a year and a half. Unfortunately the company was very badly run, the pay was abysmal and my boss like to stare at my boobs so I left and was enticed back into corporate life. Totally different career but corporate stressy business nonetheless. Did well and climbed up the ranks to manager where I am now. Anyway, as we all know, the stress etc did not sit well and I fell off the wagon. BUT now clean and sober I can make better choices. Thank you for sharing your story

Off to galway tomorrow afternoon for a birthday. Driving home after because
A) overnight babysitting options are limited
B) cant be arsed listening to drunk people for the last 3 hours
C) because I CAN.

Ironing is possibly illegal on the yellow ball days JC. Causes spontaneous combustion or something else very scary.
Thank you Mary but I need it in powerpoint with one of those little laser things to emphasise the points you are raising :haha:

Good morning everyone. Very interesting Jude and no don’t have anything to do with horses I was just filling in for my daughter who is about to sit final veterinary exams. Hence being outside my comfort zone. Thinking of you Satz, hope your Mum is ok. You will fly up from Galway Mary, new motorway is great and isn’t it wonderful to have the freedom to do it. Planning to spend the day in the garden and maybe a bit of painting.

Hi Rusty, morning ladies. Somehow I was logged out on my iPhone, iPad and iMac, spent ages trying to remember my password cause it must be years since I have had to log on. Yea go me I did remember, it must be the grey matter being less soggy these days eh. A day in the garden is my plan too Rusty, so much to do but I will take my time and as always enjoy the fresh air, peace and quite, just being. Some days I just like not going outside those front gates. DW is away at the moment so it's just me, I am very comfortable in my own company now, that wasn't always the case, still feels a little strange how we grow to see the world differently without the alcoholic haze and confusion we came to see as the norm.
Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

Wonderful start to the morning Tabbs.
Mother much better - got an ACTUAL bed in an ACTUAL ward. So she's in good hands. Best thing we've ever done - she is getting testing on everything together - not piecemeal when something goes wrong.
She's in the system now and I will not let her home without home care package.

On the arrival of Summer I must now go to work and stop people from running away .............. :egad:
I have found that working close to the elderly has helped me enormously with my mother who is - despite being ill - still mortified with some of the things she now has to let carers / nurses do.
I would not be what you'd call the Florence Nightingale type when it comes to bodily functions of adults

:llama: Adios

Morning all. Brill news about your mum Satzy. It is such a worry when parents are sick and we have to make decisions for their care.

Well last night I went out with work. Just for a meal. Cannot say I was particularly comfortable but the important thing was I made the effort and went. Plus I was not on my knees exhausted. I am today but that is another matter :haha:

As usual there was free flowing booze but I really dont want to go there any more. I would rather be considered unsociable than mask it with drink or drugs. There was a programme on the TV about over the counter addicts. Clearly this problem is getting worse and something needs to be done. Many of them going to rehab with less usage than mine and that gives me much pride that I am getting through the WDs on my own.

Have a great day folks

A very late good morning. Sleep fairy went missing 'til 5am. I may as well have stayed up as I'm just up half an hour ago and missed half the fecking day although I did see the dawn and a right old row going on over the road about 3am.

So its a whizz to the garden centre for compost, run around Aldi like a mad woman, get Mr JC to put his new cold frame in the garden not the conservatory.

Feel a tad guilty going to Aldi as the S&H didn't get the assistant manager job with them....got to the 3rd interview and brain storming session with the other candidates........he's never brain stormed in his life. He reckons not being gobby like the rest of them cost him. He's very dissapointed.....£32K per annum as a starting salary's not to be sneezed at.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Starts - I have the advantage of age over you - when I was even 10 years younger I deffo felt the pressure to 'go out' - the implication always being that if I didn't 'go out' I had no life - regardless of whether I was drinking or not I was never much of a social animal - and would have certainly rathered stay at home with my bottle of wine than sit in a pub with idle chatter.. and not JUST cos I could drink at my own pace - reckon I'm just antisocial - but it wasn't acceptable to be so till now - now I think people think I'm just a bit of an eccentric aul wan... suits me :happy2:

Its only The Kingsize Voodoo Travellers or work night outs that gets me out of the house..........luckily work is made up of around 80% alkies and druggies.

Went to Tesco instead of Aldi in protest of them not giving my son a job.......actually Molls, I'd heard that about them.........M&S are the same. He's not afraid of hard work........working in the booze trade over Christmas is basically no days off from the end of November 'til New Years Eve. Although in August they lie around doing nothing and last year set up a miniture cricket pitch in the warehouse.

Oh and we went and spent a fortune at the garden centre.......using my birthday money from the in-laws........bought myself a lovely new succulent ...meet peperomia de lilian.

Do you mind me asking your age? I am just coming up to 55 and really feel confused. I feel bored sometimes but also dont really know what I like to do to relax or hobbies. I cant run any more and other exercise hurts a bit and I am not keen on gardening (just tried to do some or cooking and the like. I feel like the most boring person alive at times
