Birds sobriety quest
Well, here I am on day two. I have been trying to go AF for many years, with a few short successes. The first I can remember trying, was around age 20. I am now 57 so...I am going through some big changes right now. Moving from a job and town I have been at for many years. Financially stable for the first time in a very long time. Things are looking good. What a great time to take care of myself and get that sober year in, that I have been chasing for so long!...so today I have started my day off with a guided meditation from Tara Brach. Heading to online chat on Women for Sobriety. Then a bit of exercise. Back to packing up my house for the remainder. I will be exhausted by the end of the day. I will not drink. I will want to, but I will not. ......b -
Re: Birds sobriety quest
Hi, Bird!
Follow the other Byrd on the Newbies Nest - she's the mother of the feathered friends. What I learned from her and others - adopt a practice of gratitude. Even though you may feel you want to drink, instead of focusing on what you give up, focus on what you gain. A clear head, self respect, relationships, health, etc. Also, exercise was key for me. Being exhausted is good, but make sure to eat!
You got this!

Re: Birds sobriety quest
Nice to meet you. I am also on day 2 today. Was sober for many years but started slipping up again. Trying to moderate just doesnt work for me. I am a guzzler and a sneaker. The other night I must have been getting more wasted than I thought because I found a hidden drink that I had not even finished. That right there shows I can not moderate. I am trying to stay busy and checking on this site for support. We got this!!!

Re: Birds sobriety quest
Good luck with your journey. Many here have similar stories. I started drinking as a teen and wasn't able to quit until I was in my 50's. It been over 3 years sober (with one "slip" - I decided to get drunk one day after 18 months sobriety. I did and it was just as lame as I remembered it (great at first then you are just stupid, then spend the next day hungover - Lame) It was Ibogaine that finally worked for me BTW, but Baclofen seems like it works really well for some people. This website was a great resource for me as well. Lots of knowledgable people here that have been in your shoes.

Day 3!
Easy day yesterday. Started today off with guided meditation with Tara Brach. Subject, free yourself from blame and resentment. Good stuff..trying to switch up my routine a bit, so I am not getting home at the witching hour. I am not working at this time, but have been keeping to my work schedule. I have kept the same schedule pretty much my whole life so this is something very new. Also am going heavy on the b vitamins, since this seems to help the cravings.....Pavati, I will definetly check out the nest. And I am big on the gratitude as well. It is part of my morning routine, to give thanks for 10 things upon awakening....Rava, so we are sober twins! Day 3, we got this!......Booze sucks, congratulations on 3 years! I have tried the drugs before, and may end up going that route again....well I am off to start my day!....b

Re: Birds sobriety quest
Here we go again on another sober day. I’m thankful that I am not physically addicted so no shakes or anything else but physiologically now thats a different story. I spent so much time creating good habits only to completly bust into bad habits in a matter of days. So disappointing. I have to stay the course. Luckily my husband is not a drinker so there is no pressure for me to drink. I just like the buzz but the buzz turns into stumbling darkness that I cant remember. That is the black hole I hate. So today, I will plug away sober and accountable.

Day 4!
Great Rava. The same happens to me. Gonna take it easy today. Some morning meditation, a walk in the park. Food that doesn't make me want to drink, Sugar and yeast breads leave me with cravings...have to go by my old job a bit this morning,,,,later...b

Re: Birds sobriety quest
Onward to day 5!..morning guided meditation finished. Made up some smoothies to get through the day, so I don't hit the drive thru. Planning on taking my dd1 out this evening to practice her driving, so that takes care of the witching hours. Sleeping is not back to normal, but I know it will be soon, as I have been here many times. Have a wonderful day all.....b

Re: Birds sobriety quest
Hi all,
Ah Drifty, sorry that happened......Rusty, thanks for stopping in.....day 2 here. Feeling tired and worn out. Morning meditation was good on cultivating attitudes of mindfulness that support habit change. Planning my evening out, since I am feeling a bit blah. Tiredness is a big trigger for me, so today I will be mindful. I will not get in a rush, I will not over caffeinne and get myself all wound up. Easy easy. .....b
