Morning troopers
OK... I did it... I did it...
thought I wouldn't... didn't even cross my mind to do it...
even kinda promised myself I'd not do it... kept saying to myself "it does nothing for you" "yer better off without it" "you always will be" "don't join the rest of the dregs who get high on it"... but suddenly it happened...
one minute happily munching on a mexican dinner...
and the next minute...
I'm watching FOOTBALL :egad:
England v Croatia...
They did well. (that's the biggest compliment for an English football game yer likely to get from a Scotsman)

I'm afraid I agree with benjy - 'twas a bit of an overload!!!! A final and a brexit to us poor buggers across the water would have been a step too far but to quote Arsey 'they did well' (so did Croatia ) ----------------runnnnnnnnnning ..........osteroops:osteroops:Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011

I have no idea as I haven't watched an England match since 1990. I'd rather poke my eyes out with a sharp stick twice.
We've got 30 plus people descending on Sunday for a World Cup BBQ.........we've had then since 1986......don't give a flying feck who was in the final its just a bit of fun and we raise some money for CHUF: Children's Heart Unit Fund
Please don't mention the B word.........its a nightmare. I'm hoping for independance for Northumbria in fact the further away from Tessa I can get the better.
Things that have put it in perspective is the bravery of those little lads in Thailand and their rescuers. It could be worse, I could be filing.

Re: July Army Manoeuvres
d'ya not feel a bit sorry for her (Teresa) - jaysus she's really between a rock and a hard place.... and she wasn't a 'leaver' in the first place was she? oh I dunno - well she'll have the lovely Donald today telling her she's doing the right thing so that's ok yeah?
oh enough politics - our own shower of genius's leave a lot to be desired for sure! They say we get who we deserve - but it's the same calibre of greedy power hungry shits that are put up in front of us - where are the smart pragmatic people with principles? RIGHT --- enough...
On a late today so feet up for an hour or two - and it's COOLER!!!! LOVELY!!
I say it every year but you are brave with that big bbq- as I get older those things become more scary to me!!! just a lazy cow methinks!!!
How's everyone?
Just wondering if you're floating Bridge.... how long were you sober and what brought you back to the grog or was it a gradual slide in thinking? Just curious - like with Starty - who was sober longer than I am now - wonder what happens sort of thing?Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011

Re: July Army Manoeuvres
I have a Blackadder cunning plan, Molls........I've got the back bedroom sorted and if it gets too noisy/sloppy I'll hunker down in there and watch a couple of DVDs...........it is out of bounds for anyone I don't invite in............I've got Frozen, Dunkirk and Wuthering Heights ready to go.
It also means that Mr JC is running round like a blue arsed fly washing the skirting boards and windows and I get away with murder.
It is beautifully cool. :happy2: I've got to nip into town to pick up a prescription and the rest of the day's mine.
I'd like to know what makes a long termer relapse............there's always that YET word floats around in my mind.........as in I haven't come across a situation that has made we want to drink...........yet.
Right gotta weigh myself..........I've put on 5 kilos since I came home...........just another 10kg to go.It could be worse, I could be filing.

Anyway there's no real end in sight with this and the drinking escalated rapidly from being a bit of relief from the stress to being an utter disaster and no help at all. i started being really bloody minded and fell out with family members, fighting with everyone, taking time off work, which I never have before. All completely contrary to character, even in the old days of drinking.
Luckily I work in a team of hopeless twats so it doesn't show that much. I was never under any delusion that I would just have a few. I drink to get absolutely fucked up, always have. I'm not interested in one or two glasses, Id rather have none.
Not sure why, but this week I knew I had to come back and start from the beginning. Shitful timing, but if not now, when?If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

No such thing as wrong timing to get sober, byebyebridgetjones - when it's right for you, it's right. I had just under 2-1/2 years sober in December of 2005. My best friend called and said she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. I went to see her and stopped and got a bottle on the way home. Ouzo - always my drink of choice. 40% alcohol content. Went home and got smashed. The thing that was most frightening was not that I reached for the bottle - I'm an alkie, after all. It was the fact that it took as much booze to get me hammered as it had almost 2-1/2 years before. I expected a couple of drinks and I'd be off in lala land, but no, it took half a frikking bottle to get me there. And I drank that amount in a very short period of time, I might add. Just shows we always have to remember that backsliding is so very easy. Luckily it was a one-time thing. What really got me and AL back together a few months later was menopause, but that's another story.
Um - I always thought that incident with yer butt out and yer neighbour was very funny. No date? His loss. I mean when you've seen an interesting woman in holey trackies, it can only get better right? What worse could she wear? And I would have been curious to see what kind of a woman doesn't give a fat rat's clacker (Tawny's expression) if someone sees her butt while she's gardening. Shows her true character right from the start. Nothing hidden, so to speak!!Last edited by stirly-girly; July 12, 2018, 05:32 AM.For every 60 seconds that you are angry, you lose a minute of happiness.

The old debate was always whether you start again or not but I believe that every day off the grog is a triumph and am not much of a counter any more.

Funny you say you were straight back to vast quantities -- a big stumbling block for me was when I decided to 'moderate' after a fairly lengthy little sober stint - and d'ya'know -- it really did work - for a time - feeling beautifully jolly and mellow after a couple of glasses of wine --- but then - after about a month - maybe 3 glasses - and then...…………… off we go -- ending in rehab..Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011
