Re: July Army Manoeuvres

Lost tinterweb.....rather lucky or I'd have ended up playing word games on FB instead of doing the big BBQ shop. Got the lad next door putting the gazebos up and the lad on the other side at Costco buying bread buns. SIL making salads, lass next door making broccoli bake.........its nice hearing them call me Das Capitan.....
My adventures into the kitchen will begin probably begin about 3 am when its cooled down a bit.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Afternoon, Army.

Jackie - I see being off the AD's has certainly brought out the true you!! Hope you have a great time at the BBQ!

Had a bit of a panic attack this morning. My lappie showed that it wasn't charging. Luckily I found a shop open on the way to the birthday party, left it there and it was fixed by the time the party was over. Thank goodness. Can't do without it - it's essential to my work.

Had a lovely time with the grandkids at the party. Not that they paid that much attention to us oldtimers but it was wonderful seeing them all together!!

byebyebridgetjones - our dear Mario met a rather untimely death a few months ago and Oney dropped by the Army at the time. Hasn't been back since but from the little I know, she is successfully running her own business and also busy raising her three kiddies. Speaking of former members - did you keep in touch with any of the Undies? Was especially wondering about Tawny. She is a very unique woman!

Well, I'm off to the supermarket to grab some goodies. I've got a special guest dropping by tonight so want to stock up on a few things. I don't plan to cook for him - but we do need some soft drinks and choccie! Nice that he's a recovering alkie as well. No problem with him getting half-pissed and annoying!!!

Its over three houses. Beer next door, food here and sitting down the other side of us and politely chatting. Don't tell anyone but I've got some lamb chops and they're mine.....all mine.

Korea 2002.......is pissed down all day. The match kicked off at noon and I was in black-out from about 2pm. I'd made vodka jellies for the first time and didn't realise they never set properly so I had them by about 10am..........according to reports it was all a jolly good laugh. Shame I was only there in body not mind.

Busy day Monday, at the doctors for post-release check-up so Tuesday's my day. Cannot fecking wait. Just me, my crochet and my dawg.

All of the above.

What time does the party kick off? sounds like great fun!

Very.

Washing all day. HATE packing. Ends up as a total wardrobe reorganisation for everyone.

Another hot one today, watching rain on some drama on the telly and it looks alien!

I miss Mario too. He was such a gentle soul and so supportive. Cannot believe it is a year ago that awful thing happened.

Brave woman with the party Jax, sounds like my idea of hell :haha:

Love house to myself. Mr S is off to a gig next weekend in Wales so its just me and me dogggers

Had a lovely couple of days, walking, chilling and cultivating a bit of a tan. As my legs generally are see through it makes a nice change.

We are off to a barbie today at my ex bf from 40 odd years ago. That should be interesting and good to catch up. Totally different lives now but in the old days drugs and drink featured heavily for all of us. Will be fun to compare us all (oh he was also a friend of Mr S so we all go back a loooooong way) Only ever really see each other at funerals so will be nice to do that for a change

Good morning Army and a happy, contented Sunday to all!!

Jackie - I trust you survived the BBQ since you started the Sunday thread! Hope everyone enjoyed it

Mary, best of luck with packing and the holidays. I once packed us up in 40 minutes. It was a last-minute decision and in no time at all the two kids, us and our bags were in the car! Mind you it was the only vacation that was like that. At some point we loaded everything including the kid's bikes in the van. Took me 3 days to get things ready and another three days to get things washed and put away when we got back! I needed another holiday by myself!

Satzy - I didn't realize it was that long since we lost our dear Mario. It's amazing how fast time flies. That's why we have to make the best of every day!

My friend and I celebrated my 1000 days last night. We were supposed to last week but the bug I had put a damper on our plans. We went to a new steak house near here - the "biftekia" we ordered were the best we have ever had. The walk over was like walking down the narrow streets of a Greek island - my new neighbourhood is lovely and quiet and beautifully lit at night. We talked and laughed and talked and laughed some more. Enjoyed our food with more talk and laughter. We were the only ones not drinking and/or smoking but I know we enjoyed ourselves as much as and maybe more than the others around us. (Not that we were paying much attention to the others!) It was midnight when we left there and had a lovely walk, hand-in-hand back to my place, still talking and laughing. Fast forward to 6:30 a.m. Both of us up and ready to face the new day. He's a farmer with his own fruit and veggie market so was off to harvest veggies to take to his store. Both of us bright-eyed and ALIVE early in the morning. Now tell me - if AL had been in the picture, if any of that would have happened. It would have been a couple of drinks at my place first, followed by a bottle or so of wine with our meal, more drinks after and then falling into bed and waking up blurry-eyed and hungover in the morning, remembering practically nothing of the night before. Life without AL just SSOOOOOOOOOOOOO good!!!!!!!!!

What a wonderful celebration Stirly! You are right if AL had been in the pic it would have likely been spoiled.

I am jealous too Satz

I woke with a headache (too much sun I think) and ran through my mind what it would have been like if caused by AL. I would not have got up and gone for a walk in the beautiful sunshine with no one else about other than the odd runner or cyclist. I would not have run round the park playing fetch with my dogger and shrieking like a lunatic when he got something right, I would not have focussed on mindfulness and doing an exercise based around what I can see, feel and hear right at that moment, I would not have come home done some chores and then sat down with a lovely coffee and toast and jam, I would not have planned the remainder of the day while walking and run through potential dodgy moments at the barbie later which might bring up a craving and what to do if that happens (I will eat and play a rerun tape of previous escapades) I would not have been grateful that I am sticking to my plan

For Stirls : I'm thrilled for you to have been brave enough to find happiness NOW.

There's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when?

Your life will always be filled with challenges.

It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway.

This quote comes from Alfred D. Souza. He said,

"For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, or a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life."

This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.

So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time...and remember that time waits for no one.

So, stop waiting until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until winter, until your song comes on, until you've had a drink.... there is no better time than right now to be happy".
