IamMary............good for you,Mers. They'll come back six inches taller as their hunched backs from bending over their phones return to normal.

Also wondering how the Starty pupper is?
Horrifying story about that poor young boy in the accident. There's just not one good thing about alcohol. I wish I lived with the Amish at the moment.
I notice that overwhelmingly, JC, we all want you to shit in SIL's handbag
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Yes day 9 JC. There's a storm brewing at work so I grabbed a bit of chocolate on the way home to deal with that. I really don't like the job anyway so they can all go feck themselves.

I am not the least bit scholarly so I would have a helluva time trying to carry on a simple conversation about the subject, never mind write a dissertation. I do have a questions tho'. Children have their own logic and I think that changes as they grow and learn and read and experience life. At what age can a child start to "philosophize" and not just look at things with a logic that is in relation to their age? Note that I live in the country where some of the world's great philosophers were born, not that it has made any difference to my own unique way of thinking.
Traditionally it was thought that one could only philosophise if one had life experience - so the more experiences we have the more we bring to the table to consider. Ergo, kids canny philosophise! Matthew Lipman developed Philosophy for Children (P4C) back in the 70s. His contention was that children were able to philosophise from age 10. However, I disagree with this as there is evidence that children as young as 4 and 5 apply metacognition, they can reflect, think about their thinking. I have done philosophy with children with P1s (age 5-6) - not very often, but I have seen children that age able to critically reflect upon philosophical ideas. It is important to note that they are not learning about philosophy but engaging in philosophical dialogue. Another note to make is that I would argue that just because children's language has't adequately developed to better articulate concepts, it doesn't follow that they can't think philosophically.

The link is from a VERY old clip from 1989 of Dr Catherine McCall (she worked with Lipman, and developed philosophy with children to work with kids as young as 5 or 6). Start at 6:37 - it's incredibly grainy and the sound quality is shite, but it gives you a wee taste of 6-yr olds having a philosophical discussion.

Hey bridge.. my discipline?! Gee... would never put 'discipline' and 'arsey' in the same sentence :haha:

I'm a teacher - so, education i suppose. In terms of Uni, officially it's probably Educational Studies with a focus on Philosophy with Children... but there is much crossover - we study childhood development at uni as part of studying to be a teacher - cognitive and moral development of children - so that's both psychology and Early childhood... and my personal interest is in philosophy with sprogs.
