Can you believe its 9 years since your last drink???

Off to a party shortly. The thoughts of Al hasnt crossed my mind (until I signed in here).. Up for an early run - theres no way Id be able for that if I was drinking..

Back in a bit.
I may sound good but I feel like shite warmed over. I'm very tearful.

Its flown by. The number 9 is my favourite number.

Hope you're wearing something gorgeous.

Never heard of Liz Nugent.

Morning all!

Jax great to hear you are on the mend. Do you know how you would have got this? I am wondering if it was from the centre you work at? I know Cdiff is really nasty but I hope it is not too difficult to get rid of.

Mary hope you had a great party (brave woman) I avoid them like the plague

RC hope you are coping with the run. You must be off on hols now?

Stirly, dunno how you went to work with dodgy tum! But I hope things are settled today.

Loved the England game. Very proud of our boys and manager. Not your typical footballers at all

Off to walk with a friend in a bit before it heats up. Then meeting another couple of friends for coffee so should be a nice day.

Good morning Army!!

Good advice there on the potassium, Satzy!

Dodgy tummy still dodgy til late yesterday evening. Ate rice cakes and crackers and a small box of peach juice later in the day. Woke up this morning with my tum a bit better but with a headache. Seems to have gone now so maybe I'm on the mend. The worst part was that I had "A thousand and one nights" (as in "Arabian Nights") sober on Friday and my special friend and I were going to go out and celebrate and that got cancelled. I celebrated anyway but not in the way I had in mind. Oh well, he says we'll do it up in style when I feel strong enough. Still weak today but expect to feel back to normal in a couple of days. Jeez, I'm almost never ill and don't like it one bit. Can't imagine what JackieClaire has been going through! 26C at 8 a.m. in Stirly-World and supposed to go up to 31C but with scattered clouds and maybe rain. I would love rain! Should go to the beach and work on my tan but that isn't going to happen. Am going to stay home and rest instead.

Wishing you all a great Sunday! inkele:

Morning Campers :checkin:

Update Chez Satz:
Young Satz still drinking ...... though I have decided to stop obsessing & let him get on with whatever he wants to do. I just refuse to engage with him while he is drinking and so does Mr S & his sister. It is a lonely life for him - running on his own - cycling on his own - hiking on his own - but he has chosen it .... nothing more I can do to help if he doesn't help himself.

Mother still demented.
She broke her wrist and now we cannot let her go home to live alone even with carers.
There is funding from the HSE for Residential Nursing Home and I secured a place for her, if needed, in the place I work - but moving her there will be very difficult - both physically & emotionally.
She wants to go home to her own house.

Bringing her here to live with me is not an option as she needs nursing care with the lung disease she has and the dementia.

Satzy - I feel for you, I really do. So many things to deal with on so many levels.

Why does young Satz do so many things on his own? I've forgotten how old he is? Why does he isolate - he must have friends. Does he not go out with friends when he goes out to drink? Sorry for the questions, just trying to get a better picture of his lifestyle. I thought I read something about a new job lately. Did he get it and if so - how is he doing? I know it is terribly difficult for you and Mr. Satz to see him not making an attempt to get himself straightened out as far as AL goes. Probably the fact that he is so active physically has something to do with it. If he didn't engage in his sports because of AL, maybe that would be something that would make him stop and think.

As for your Mum - it will be difficult for you emotionally but maybe not so much for her as you think. She may want to go back to her own home but she may well feel safer if she is in a monitored facility. Has she dementia? Is she lucid at times but drifts in and out? There are so many terms for what happens to older people's brains and minds that I find it all confusing. I would say that my Mother-in-law was senile but at the end, after she suffered two minor stokes, that she declined into dementia. I know her personality changed and she usually didn't know who I was when I went to visit her. We had put her in a seniors' residence and for the last year, basiclly I was the only one to visit her. Both her sons and other DIL kind of gave up on her but that's neither here nor there. The point is that she had to be in that place for her own safety and no matter how hard it was to see her leave her home, we all knew that it was for her own good that she had to be moved. She was content there but she was never really a social person and had nothing to do with the other residents. She would engage in conversation with them but never go and sit with the rest of the people to watch TV or anything. Sad, really but not much we could do about it. I hope you can come to terms with your Mum's move. It is inevitable considering her condition and at least she will be near you so you can see her daily. That at least, will be some comfort to both of you. Wishing you strength to deal with all the shite...

JackieClaire - went off on a tangent in Google-land and found this website - very informative. And NATURAL remedies.

e.g. Cider Vinegar : in sparkling water ACTUALLY tastes nice.
Being high in potassium, it helps replenish potassium levels in the body and reverse fluid retention. Moreover, its anti-inflammatory property helps reduce swelling and pain. Add 1 or 2 teaspoons of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar to a glass of water. Drink it twice daily.

Morning,
Soft Focus............thank you, me lovely.

starty........no idea where it came from... .it can lurk around for years......biggest thing is not washing your hands after going to the toilet......surprisingly I'll bet there's more than a few of us use anti-bacterial gels/wipes when the best to use good old soap and hot-water. We did talk about whether it could be something to do with work.........but that's highly unlikely.

Oh you're going to love this..........one of the junior doctor's was doing a background on me..........told her I was an alcoholic.........her reply..........so that means you only drink on special occasions like Christmas? Wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry.

Did I mention the England's goal keeper is a Geordie?

stirly-girly...... get well soon.

stirly-girly thank you SO much for your kind words of support.
Young Satz is a lone drinker as we all were at the end because we out-drink everyone.
He is 36 - had friends, girlfriends but does not hang out with them unless he's dry. Mostly when he's drinking he now drinks in his room alone.
If we kick up - he will stop for a week but he goes back - when he gets paid & hiding the drink because of us.

Mother has vascular dementia & IPF - both progressive. On oxygen almost constantly now.
She is mostly happy to sit & chat and still knows everyone. Short term memory only affected.
