e.g. Cider Vinegar : in sparkling water ACTUALLY tastes nice.
Being high in potassium, it helps replenish potassium levels in the body and reverse fluid retention. Moreover, its anti-inflammatory property helps reduce swelling and pain. Add 1 or 2 teaspoons of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar to a glass of water. Drink it twice daily.
Jackie - Dr. Satz is right again - apple cider vinegar (with the mother) is supposed to be very good for you. A word of caution tho' - you need to rinse your mouth well after drinking it even if it is diluted in water or soda. Just rinse with plain water - don't brush your teeth or anything. It's acidic and apparently can affect tooth enamel. As Satzy said, it has anti-inflammatory properties so should help you.

Young Satz is a lone drinker as we all were at the end because we out-drink everyone.
He is 36 - had friends, girlfriends but does not hang out with them unless he's dry. Mostly when he's drinking he now drinks in his room alone.
If we kick up - he will stop for a week but he goes back - when he gets paid & hiding the drink because of us.

Mother has vascular dementia & IPF - both progressive. On oxygen almost constantly now.
She is mostly happy to sit & chat and still knows everyone. Short term memory only affected.
Yeah, I get the picture with young Satz - the isolation so you can drink yourself into a coma and no one will know it. I truly hope the penny drops for him soon. He's still young but old enough to come to terms with how drinking is affecting his social life and how detrimental that could be to his life in general from now on.

As for your Mum - I said the other day that I don't know whether it's better for older people who are chronically and progressively ill to have their wits about them or not. Sometimes I think it's better that they don't because they can't understand what's happening to them. My Dad was on morphine during his last days and drifting in and out of a morphine haze. When he was lucid, the only thing he wanted was to go home. It was difficult for everyone. Courage and patience, dear girl. Don't know what else to say....

I've written it down......the apple stuff. Could have cried with delight with when I saw tinned sardines on the list.

Yep, your own sobriety first. You have no idea how much I admire you.........you should be sainted.............Saint Satz has a ring to it
The Army will have it's own "SS"!!!!!!!!

Yeah, as long as it's not a detainment camp!! Wasn't she referred to as General Satz or something like that some time ago. Had to do with a work-out routine and she was trying to get some peeps to join in the exercise! She'll have us doing aerobicink:and jumping-jacks:hyper: til everyone goes :nutso:!!

Good morning everyone. Great to see the patients feeling a bit better. You really are a saint Satz, very hard to be book ended with problems in both directions. You are right to detach and look after yourself. Another beautiful morning, it just seems to go on and on. Think I’ll take the doggies for a walk by the river as it’s shaded. Sunday papers and another bbq. Must download the Liz Nugent books as well but might save them for holiday.

satz123, you shared the same standard and alternative ideas with JC that I would have, making me wonder what in the heck I was doing all those years in grad school :yikes:! I hate bananas but love avocados so generally assume that's where I get some. I wish I could develop a taste for sardines, JackieClaire. Do you just eat them straight from the tin???

Many people would use the situations with your son and mom as excuses to "have a drink", Satz. Your ability to detach while keeping them protected seems like the best thing for everyone. I hope to be like you when these kinds of stresses arise. xx, NS

Hey all - just back from holliers today sorry been missing - hello to all the regulars and not-so-regulars as I am now!
sounds manky Jackie - you'll be glad to get that out of your system anyhows - and well done on the years clocked up

sounds like you're really the squashed generation Benjy - and truly my heart goes out to you - when my mum was sick I wasn't particularly having sprog problems and when I was having sprog problems it was mainly after mum died - so I either had one or the other - but shit - that's life and it seems awful shagging random what gets thrown at us and when --- I'm learning to live one day at a time to the best of my ability - really let myself get consumed by worries and anxieties and well - lots of times none of these things happen

anyways - it's good to be home tho had a wonderful wonderful time - now a little bit of lovely autumn weather please Ireland - had enough of this shite

Evening all,

Yes Satz you are a saint. When mum was ill it took all my energy. Not sure I would have coped as well as you if I had a sprog giving me grief too.

Been a busy day here, long walk at 6.30am to avoid the heat then a looong meet up with some friends from work. Found myself a lovely pair of shorts for £15 which was a bonus. Now getting ready for the week. Mr S is starting another diet so I will have to help him with that. He is worryingly over weight and I must say I get very frustrated with his choices BUT he must have got equally fed up with mine so I guess we are quits :haha:

Mr S not addicted to sugar just massive quantities of food like bread, potato and pasta. I think I will need to take control of the cooking. God help him.

Iceland was a weird experience. The hostel was a dirty hovel and the trip was non stop, no sleep and being in close proximity to 50 people that I work with for 3 days sent me over the edge :haha:

ah shit - that's poxy - tbh Starts - for at LEAST a year I didn't so much as go to a house party with friends or a pub or hardly even a restaurant - I just re-grouped and wouldn't have gone anywhere where there was going to be drinking - not for love or money - now I don't much either - but that's just cos I'm a lazy cow ;-)
