Re: July Army Manoeuvres
Morning all!
Beautiful warm morning here. Walked doggers, done some meditation and also a yoga session. I want to get a bit of practise in before my Buddhist retreat next month so I dont look like a complete beginner and also have a hope in hell of achieving at least some of the poses
Off to work in a bit and feeling grateful for all sorts of things today (very unlike me :haha: )

Starty - where's your Buddhist retreat? Was looking into these... had ideas of doing it this summer, but looks unlikely now - dissertation being the priority.

Hope all is well Molls
I fear that I would not fit in being a consumer whore and very shallow.
Example : yesterday we were going into the hospital and DD & I were admiring each others flip flops (as you do) - stopping trying them on etc. We looked up eventually and there was array of wheelchair-bound people with various leg injuries looking at us. Shallow.
I'm also not a bit calm & floaty.
On holiday myself & DD called these lovely creatures 'floaters' - just calm , thin , tall women who floated around all serene-like. Got dressed & undressed with minimal fuss and just glided into the sea.
Compare this to our 'Irishness' look in the heat ....:haha:

I'm certainly not calm and floaty... more antagonistic and irreverent. Only ever did a buddhist retreat once - about 20 years ago when i lived in Sri Lanka. But whenever i've been at places that do similar (heard of Findhorn anyone?), i see quintessential hippy types - yup, all calm and floaty and...uh...stoned :haha: and i just want to find a way to disrupt their chilled out calm.
Yet... am aware that's maybe my own bitterness cos i've got a head and heart that are slowly turning brittle :egad: and i've a tendency to be negative about myself, as well as over-react to life, so look to meditation to try and find some... softness? Equilibrium.

Re: July Army Manoeuvres
Morning,
Beware ........I'm in a shit mood.........have to wait 'til I see my consultant on the 3rd August before I get the all clear for work.
RunningCourage............I'll raise your bitterness and add a large dollop of cynicism ........why are retreats a tad expensive? Isn't the purpose to steer us away from worldly stuff, not to have at the back of your mind will your credit card actually bare the weight?
Answers on a postcard to the usual address. It could be worse, I could be filing.

I don't like to see you thinking that. Life can be shite but listen to me - it's short and we need to find as much fun as we can while we're here.
Look at babies & little kids - they live in the moment and for the most part happy - in awe of everything new - till we make them conform.....
Why grow up - it's a pain in the arse ... we need to remain child-like.
My mother has returned to childlike status and it's amazing.
She is fascinated now by nature - the sea - cows - fields - dinky little milk jugs ....... as if she's seeing them for the first time.
Yesterday she saw & admired the dinky milk jug 5 times - for the first time.
(her short term memory is gone)
She's as happy as Larry because she forgets to worry about anything !!!!Last edited by satz123; July 23, 2018, 06:46 AM.
