Same here Molls. I remember buying little additions in red for my kitchen Desperately wanted a red and white kitchen. Never quite got it but had a few bits and was delighted with them.

Got two lots as a wedding present (the first marriage).......you needed to earthed to change the damned things. The sparks were nothing to do with being newly weds..........Luckily my Granny supplied us with some linen she had.

We had a rocking chair - dug out of somewhere in my mother's ( we fought over that ) , bed & a cooker.
Oh and carpet throughout - I insisted on that - but had to pay yer man in the carpet shop by the week.
Telly was rented too.

Hello Troopers!!!

Nice to see sweetpea29 !!

Now where is Tabbers? And Tony?

Had a very quick look back over the posts so I see there are a few subjects being tossed around.

Mr. Stirly and I rented furnished apartments when he first went to Canada. We were in Montreal at the time and we lived off of one salary and saved the other. Among our first furniture purchases was a "sofa set". Basically it consisted of cardboard box bases - three of them that had covers that slipped down over them, square pillows to sit on top of that and then rectangular back cushions. You could put them together to make a "sofa" or use them separately as "chairs". Poly-cotton sheets tho - my Mom always made sure we had good sheets and towels. None of that nylon stuff. I think it would make you crazy to sleep on those in the summer - hot, hot!!

Satzy - sorry for your on-going troubles with YS, and very sorry to hear of your Mom's declining state. Hopefully she will be comfortable and content in the new place.

Jackie - hope they get things straightened out soon for you. It must be frustrating to not have doctors listen when you're telling them how you feel/don't feel. Not that they are much better here - I usually avoid them as much as possible.

Mary - how long before the youngsters go back to school? I was always anxious for September to arrive so they'd go back to school and life could return to normal!!

Bridge- I eat as well when stressed. My latest kick is these cold coffees - freddo cream they're called. Iced espresso with about a cup of whipped cream on the top. Vegan, not real cream but still high in calories. I'm going to have to cut them out tho' as I can see them in my waistline!! Good for you on staying AF!

Arsey - when do you get the news about your dissertation? Hope you enjoy the rest of the summer before school starts.

Molls - your bike trip sounds great. Hope your hand is much less troublesome to you!

Startypants - almost forgot you! When do you go to the retreat with Chill? I am looking longingly at remote mountain tops these days. Leave all of them to their troubles and such and go somewhere quiet where I don't have to hear another human voice!!

Hi to anyone I've missed! I think Rusty is on holidays so hope all is well there!

Edited to add - falling asleep here - catch up with youz tomorrow. Sweet dreams!!!

satz123............I'd forgotten about renting the TV.........we got ours from one of my old bosses.........a black and white. Made for an interesting Wimbledon or football.

stirly-girly........lovely to see you. Tbh I'm sick to the back teeth of doctors.......I'm still going to put in a formal complaint with the help of a complaints advocacy service. I am so lucky and grateful that Mr JC has seen some of it. I keep thinking of those that don't have family support and feel there's a few points need bringing up. Condascending is a word that keeps popping into my mind. The nurses are fabulous. Anyhoo that's for the future and today has been fab.

sweetpea29........big waving hand to you, darling.

Think its time for a lovely tonic water with ice and a slice...........any takers???

Sounds like a plan JackieClaire, you can batch one up for me!
Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

Jacks - most doctors in hospitals are condescending because like the priests for generations we made them out to be Gods. Talk to you as if you are 'thick' - especially us of a certain generation - I'm convinced they think we're part of the great uneducated, unwashed masses .
I've seen my mother's consultant visibly sit up when I asked very pertinent questions. Like he said about her osteoporosis and I said she hasn't got osteoporosis - she's had a satisfactory DEXA scan.
Then there was a mention of not being able to give her penicillin - the file had that she was allergic to it. I said NO she's not.
They gave it to her 2 weeks ago and she had not had an infection since.
So now - my MO is to dress to the nines , dripping watches & jewellery ( tasteful of course ) - have my homework done & meet them on level playing field. It's the only way...

FFS - I really do feel sorry for those with no-one to support them.
