Good points Cowboy.. I can categorically say, this woman was too ashamed to walk into an AA meeting. Could not do it.
Interesting RC. Do you mean 20% of men have/had a ED! 1 in 5??
IamMary - I personally thing that it could well be as high as 1 in 5, if you view disordered eating as an over obsession with eating or exercise. For men often the "purge" of disorder eating is excessive exercise (I'm a culprit - my running is sometimes this - i.e. i feel less guilty eating once i've known i've run or done some daily exercise). It;s exercise for the wrong reasons - to allow one to eat, not necessarily cos it feels good per se.
Officially it's about 10% - but that's only those diagnosed. Some blurb here from BEAT:
Conflicting and poor quality data is one of the biggest problems in pinning down the full extent of eating disorders in the UK and indeed the world. According to Beat information from the Department of Health only shows how many individuals received inpatient treatment. 11 per cent of suffers are male but this only captures only a very small percentage of cases, since as much as 50 per cent of treatment is provided by private clinics and only the most severely ill will receive inpatient care. In a recent report in 2015 it estimated that 725,000 people are suffering from eating disorders of all genders, ages and backgrounds.
Sorry folks - that's sweet FA to dow with AL... right, off to work -
Have a good day y'all.

Re: August Army Manoevres
Interesting re the eating disorders - I am guilty of being intolerant in the past - I since understand a lot better - were several people in treatment with various eating disorders - my sister had anorexia when I was a wee one - she was an older teenager and I was mebbe 6 onwards - the whole family ( in my small mind) danced to her attention - my other sister and I didn't exist - culminating in being sent to boarding school when I was 8 - held that grievance until recently tbh - but with understanding now I see it as every bit as consuming as alcoholismContentedly sober since 27/12/2011

AND - before I go to shower - was just thinking about my previous attitude to eating disorders - I s'pose it's no different to the intolerance the general public probably feel towards any addict - 'why don't they just stop?' Or Joe's one time 'solution' to my 'problem' -- 'why don't you just drink WITH me - put the drink on the table' -- absolutely no understanding of the dark place.... crikey - I never thought of myself like that...
must go get scrubbed - yer wan had better not be grumpy with me - one of my son's has a way of riling people up - I'm guessing he's guilty --- laters xxContentedly sober since 27/12/2011

Re: August Army Manoevres
Back home Granddaughter did really well 10 top passes, she is very happy but I could see some of the heartbroken kids with their result slips. I hate what we are doing to these children such pressure.
Mr A better but going back to hospital next Tuesday.
Starving hungry now might just have a fry up!

Perhaps it's similar to problem drinkers who don't think they have a problem but judge others who do/they deem to think drink too much.
But enough about food. So, what y'all having for dinner? :haha: And how was yer fry-up whizzy?
brit - congrats on the granddaughter doing so well. That is excellent, but I also agree and empathise with your concern about the pressure we are increasingly putting on kids. Though the curriculum's and ways of assessment are somewhat different between Scotland/England, the pressures being added - even to 5 yr olds is saddening. And yet the powers that be have the strings and the purses to dictate what we as teachers must do... probably one of the most frustrating things of this profession. Is the hospital visit a check up for Mr A(b) or is i more to ascertain whether what further procedures may be required? Thinking of youse both.

Re: August Army Manoevres
RunningCourage I had skinless chicken thighs ( 3 packs for 12 euro M&S ) in a dish with Chorizo and Tomato / Gorgonzola sauce poured over - baked in the oven - served with brown rice. YUMMY !!
YS has been drinking continually since last Friday. Allegedly 'tapering' but overdoing it every time.
Job must be gone by now 'cos he hasn't gone in since Monday.
Mr S took the car keys off him last night but he sneaked out anyway - told me he was 'tapering' & came home at 10 when I told him his Dad wouldn't say anything - as he's tired of it all.
He got up this morning - no shower - and out to 'work' - we're expecting him back drunk any time now.

Re: August Army Manoevres
Oh Satz so hard being a mother!
I had fry up at 11 am it was lovely and then a chippy tea at 6. Not healthy but decided to have a day off being healthy. I even decided to lie on the couch instead of running (in my running kit)
Hope all is falling into place RC?
Mr A listed for surgery next Tuesday--

Re: August Army Manoevres
Well done wee granddaughter Whizzy --- delighted for ye!!
I had mushroom ham and parmesan sauce with tagliatelle --- It was awful nice ;-)
feckin hard Benjy - but as I say always -- what can you do? Well I presume MrS is keeping the car keys? That's non-negotiable - but other than that... Christ I don't know honestly what I'd do.. I fear I would get so angry at all that going on in my house I may lose the plot... and I don't reckon that'd help anyone..
It's great you can talk so openly now about the eating Arsey - it's like you are taking control of so much... xxxContentedly sober since 27/12/2011
