Re: August Army Manoevres

Evening all,

Tiptoeing in......

We'll done to your Grandaughter MrsA :welldone: you must be so proud! Will have fingers crossed and be thinking of you all come Tuesday x

Satz- in a way I feel sorry for YS. Remembering that turmoil, hating the fact that you kept repeating the very behaviour that you know is not good for you. I'd imagine he must be so ashamed too,in that ,you and MrS are witness to it all.
My heart goes out to you too tho x you're a very good Mam x

D'Arsey-ate out today with Daddy. Went for a roast dinner since haven't had one in dunno how long. Really looked forward to it and all but no would've been much more satisfied with a bowl of cereal! Restraunts don't seem to serve that tho

Hey to everyone else

Shall I turn out light or is Mary still out and about?

Morning troops

:haha: love that you'll wrote what you had for yer tea!

had grilled chicken with a beetroot, apple and almond concoction and then had a bowl of squirt cream. I;v been craving squirty cream - on toast, in coffee, by itself, with custard... so bought a bottle and filled a bowl. Noice, as mR G would say. Then a few chocolates. Cos I canny end a dinner without the taste of chocolate for some reason. Like a full stop?!

The think I like about Fridays is that I don't force myself to get up and go for a run first thing. So can chill in me leaba fannying about on the internet, a bit of reading - relaxing.
brit - y'know I sometimes wonder about just getting up and putting on my running kit and then doing my stretches BUT NOT going for a run. Good for you on a lazy day. That's what I need to force myself to do. I fear I probably won't for the next 3 months cos life is so busy, but I'm going to think of you in your living room having had a fry-up, enjoying a day of relaxing on the couch and then a lovely chippy dinner... and do something similar for myself!
satz123 - sorry about YS. Something's go to give. It's almost as if he has;t taken responsibility for it. I read yesterday something which i'm going to amend for AL: It is not your fault you have an alcohol problem. But as an adult it is your responsibility to recover. Yes, it is unfair that something you are not to blame for is your responsibility, but that's the reality. No blame. Blame serves nobody. Least of all you.

Dunno if that fits with YS - but I do think however he ended up here - genetic disposition, life circumstances, some event or a gradual habit that morphed into an addiction - it is ultimately his responsibility to change. It is not his fault. He is not to blame - no one is. But it is his responsibility. Just a thought.

Off to fanny about.

That is so true Arsey - so easy to fall into the 'poor me's' - self pity is futile - extremely unattractive and juvenile - enemy of recovery - ' its so HARD' ok so it is at first but fuck it is there truly an alternative ????? None if we accept the reality of what our addiction does to our souls

Good morning! Winter has arrived on the Costa del Mersey.
Off for a run--Not an addiction but it prevents me from drinking as I feel so awful running after having a drink! Also I want to be able to use the car without wondering if I might be over the limit.
See you later.

Irish women ranked in top 1 for alcohol consumption, study finds

Interesting the the 'drunken Irish' is somewhat of a myth - that generally we drink similarly to other European countries - however - the one weak link is the wimmin….. 3 units a day on average...

edit -- that title should be Top 10 - not Top 1 -- seems to be a problem importing links?

And I see those poor kids being stage managed by their stage parents through their academic careers every day. Then my colleagues book them in to see the student councillor because they are so anxious that they can barely make it to class. All to reflect positively upon their upwardly inspirational families. Sad, sad , sad.
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Xpost MsJones -- agree entirely - as a young'un we were pushed by my Dad - even getting a degree wasn't enough for him - it had to be a 'good' degree - my sister (the clever one) wanted to do Law - nothing would do him but she should do Medicine - she really never liked it.. my kids genuinely chose their paths - two went to college - two did apprenticeships - so if they're not happy with their lot - they truly can't blame me!!! -
Went to visit my older grandchildren yesterday - (6 and 4 ffs) ALL she wanted to do was show me the 6 year olds school report - like that was ALL that defined him - the fact that he had mastered a two-wheeler bike that day was pushed to the background - it felt a bit sad tbh

This week has been a truly full-on week at work. Really looking forward to a jolly good read back tomorrow after a big sleep.
Bless you army-bums. You make so much good sense.

OK , off to blessed sleep. Catch up tomoz Army.

My cousin has three kids in private schools........they pay several arms and a few legs for it..........her three do one after school activity.......swimming. She told me about trying to organise a yummy mummy night out once..........and her eyeballs nearly fell out and her brain fried..........many do a musical instrument, many do swimming, football, a good few have home tutors and what flabberghasted her two kids in her eldest's class are learning Japanese........so her and the lass next door just went down the local pub.

Travesty is exactly the word..........heartbreaking as well. I had to be scraped off the ceiling by Mr JC when he got in after I'd watched the news last night.

Morning Jacks!! HAHA --- yeah we'll treat Bridge to THAT story when she wakes up tomorrow - much more exciting than reading diaries:welldone:

Well we were truly impoverished when my two eldest in particular got to school age... hand to mouth - week to week - so after school activities involved football - all types - gaelic, soccer, rugby --- all free (well they had to bring 2 yoyo's a week to pay the ref) - and tbh I think they navigated the dangerous teenage years relatively successfully courtesy of said football - by the time Jilly came along we were SLIGHTLY less poor - so she got piano lessons - so there was no choice - I couldn't have done those exotic things for them even if I'd wanted to.

I've just remembered the name of the S&H's football team...........under 11s.............Lemington Sparks.......never won a game in a whole season. Biggest defeat 17-nil. He was the goalkeeper and got substtituted at half time............he was soooooooo proud of the fact that he only let in 6 of the 17.
