We have an appointment with his psychiatrist in mid-October to have him declared mentally incompetent so that Bubba's Enduring Power of Attorney will take full force and effect. It's sad really how these brain disorders change people so drastically....

The repeated questions, the obsessiveness, and anger, can take it's toll on even the most patient caregiver. satz123...I can't remember who suggested reading to your Mom, but I think that it's a great idea! As difficult as it may seem, trying to see the world from the perspective of someone with dementia can really help. It's not easy, but very helpful if you can get into their head. There's a lot of info on the web to help people deal with a loved one suffering from this horrendous disease. Kudos to all of you caregivers for trying to help the people you love....knowledge is always your best tool.
I find working closely with people with dementia helps a lot.
I've now more tolerance, insight and patience I would not have had otherwise - and I'm really grateful for that.
I am not a Care Assistant so I get to interact with the residents without having to do the physical aspects of their job - which I would find difficult. I am in awe of those .. mostly young people and how they care for older people.
Some aspects of their job are truly vile to be honest.Last edited by satz123; September 24, 2018, 05:12 AM.

Re: September Army!!!
Just thinking about the concept of attending meetings. I've resisted it so far but I suppose the real advantage is that it's not YS's family telling him. It's somebody else who isn't invested and biased.
Maybe young Satzy is just procrastinating. Doesn't really want to give up just yet but will defo do it "one day" I know that feeling well. Procrastination is probably my worst enemy.
I've got so many damn jobs to get done around here JC, it is completely overwhelming now. No sooner do I get one thing repaired than two more break. Definitely run away and think about it next year.
I now have boomerang son, boomerang brother, boomerang brother's daughter and dog in residence. There are no beds left so "No Vacancy" sign is out. I have holidays coming up after this week and desperately need a break. Might have to run away myself.
Brit you really are doing astonishingly well with all of that to worry about. Kudos to you going for a run instead of drinking. I know that's all I'd want to do.If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Bridgee, there's still the loft to go but that's waiting 'til next spring. There's a mound of stuff to go to charity shops.........I can see me wandering around town thinking I used to have a top like that.
Jude58, always lovely to see you.
Had a peaceful day just pootling......nipped up to M&S for a black polo-neck and saw their cashmere jumpers.........the hinting aimed at Mr JC that Christmas is coming has gone into hyperdrive. Tomorrow is a waiting day for a chair for the wee bedroom..........delivery anytime between 7am to 8pm.It could be worse, I could be filing.

Yo - just a quickie. So to speak.
Good to see ya Mr G.
Sorry to hear about yer paw, abcowboy - like you say, it is a harsh and painful to watch kinda way to see people we care and love go. And as for satz123 - aye, being read to sounds awesome for your maw. I'm sure there are great benefits to that even if we can never fathom them ourselves. I think being read to at any age is comforting.... there is something uniquely timeless and human about it.
byebyebridgetjones - don't piss yer knickers.
big waves to JC, AT molls, whizzy, rusty tops, mary and the rest of youse who have slunk away and having a party somewhere else!

Right I'll take that on board & pass the message on to my brothers too - who can't seem to hold a conversation at all with their mother.
