Im shattered. Not sitting down until 11 every night, no end to this. Have to go out tomorrow night and really in no mood - I'll be the only non drinker. rant over..

Its funny Bridge, your old buddy could be having a similar conversation to her friends/sister/husband, about how amazing you are after all these years! What is success anyway? I have a very positive friend, she's been through the gutter and couldn't care less about material things. I love spending time with her, shes a tonic. I know lots of really successful people who bore the pants off me. Not that your friend would fall into the latter category, but you are probably closer to the first one.

Enjoy the hike satz, you might run into Rustop on one of those mountains!

JC I am really jealous that your almost done and dusted, help!!

Had a weird drinking dream last night.. on a boat, someone was saying mass and I had to drink the red wine out of the chalice. Its was disgusting and I had nowhere to discreetly spit it out. panic hit and I swallowed! then I woke up and it was all a dream. Then end.

It's the weekend at last!!! House is filling up with people so I'm just about to send them on their way regardless of whether they want to leave or not....

I've noticed since I've stopped drinking no-one calls - well to be honest I don't invite them. It's bad enough listening to them as they drink in the pub or a restaurant or in their own houses, without having them here in my booze free sanctuary

If you HAVE to go - have your escape planned and take no shit from anyone even hubby. Before you head out tell them exactly what time you are leaving and at that time get up and go .... anyone wants a lift needs to be ready too.
Apart from not drinking - you are mother to young children and have LOADS to do next day.......

You will hear all types of pleading : "Just one more " "relax" "IT's CHRISTMAS" being the main ones - but don't be distracted from your escape mission.

If its a gig I go for the music and if they want to stay and have a few after its finished.......I'll push off home in a taxi. I'll be fucked (excuse my language) if I'm driving apart from being the worst driver on the planet.........I'm not a taxi driver.

There's a tried and tested saying from AA...........if you sit in a barber's shop long enough you'll get a haircut. I way the pros and cons these days..........my sobriety is the first and last priority now. I have today what a millions would be envious of and will never achieve. Why would I cock that up just to do a bit of people pleasing?

Don't be envious of my getting ready for Christmas......its left me with a bad back that has left me in agony and gobbling painkillers. Might have to ring the doc for some of the hard stuff codiene if its no better by Monday.

Evening all. Good advice there Mary. Hope you have a good night out, don’t envy you, it’s horrible here. Bet you will be so glad you drove. Have gotten to the stage in my life where I refuse to do anything I don’t feel like. Wasted too much time in my youth people pleasing. Had lovely day, crochet class and then we went out for lunch. Lots of laughs and nothing but water and Diet Coke on the table.

Thanks for the advise yesterday. I didnt log on, but had a read before I went out, always gives me a little boost. :love:
It was the work gig, department dinner and the company party. Normally I am very discreet about not drinking, but with time, comes confidence, so when people asked (and they did), I didnt lie. This resulted in an uneasiness on their side, a horrified 'why?' or 'never?', followed by my stock answer, Im not good with hangovers, but with a look that actually said - the state of you right now would turn anyone off drinking - but they were too drunk to notice that look.

They genuinely could not get their head around why I would be there sober. Stayed till 11.30 and dropped my buddy home (Dont like driving around the city that late so he's happy to oblige). Duty done for another year :yay:

Wild day, hope Satz didnt get soaked or blow away! Did she take Rosie with her JC??
