I'm away off to work now - someone's got to keep the owners of the Nursing Home in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
They have parked their Mercs for 3 weeks and the whole family - kids and all have gone on a cruise.
Meanwhile we, the 'great unwashed' , struggle with lack of resources all over Christmas & New Year.

My job is a doddle compared to the Care Workers. Young girls working 12 hour shifts in an over heated often smelly environment. The attendance record is abysmal - because of there is very little thanks for a job well done.
All for 12e an hour.
They don't tackle it because care workers are hard to get.
Vicious circle.

Byeeeee :horse:

Who wants a coffee?? Just done a few chores and think we deserve one.

...me too

I'd still rather have a starter than a pudding. That hotel we go to in Scotland do the most delicious haggis bonbons. Back in the day when I went out with the girls I could never understand why people would 'save' themselves for the sweet course. The sweet tooth came with the stopping drinking.

Stayed up 'til yon time sorting my threads in my sewing box. Did catch some very old episodes of Law and Order......a welcome relief from all the fecking Christmas movies.
We did see Gremlins the other night and I'd forgotten how gruesome it was. :egad:

I'm never one to turn down a cuppa coffee, specially one as fancy as your's JC! Thanks!
Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

You're more than welcome, bonnie lad.

Just back from IKEA........apparently its the place to be on a Sunday if you have a squalling baby.

Picked the wardrobes we want. So off to get a carpet picked tomorrow. They also install them for £100..........a small price to pay considering the last time our neighbour helped Mr JC put them together and he managed to put his foot straight through the back of the wardrobe. I have never laughed so hard at the look on his face. Priceless.

Evening all. Welcome back Tabbers, how is the job going? Disgrace Satz, we should be so ashamed of ourselves the way we look after our most vulnerable. Don’t envy you IKEA. JC, last time I went it was like a crèche. Took the doggies on a beach walk today for a change, it was more like a spring day, absolutely beautiful. Going into the city tonight to meet an old friend for dinner. Hope the damn train working properly this time. Will drive half way there so if we have to get a taxi it’s not too far. Sugar free challenge will have to wait until NY, like Mary, I can’t sit there looking at cakes.

Evening,
Like the rest of you, I didnt really care for the sweet stuff before, but Ive continued to allow it for too long now. Running is probably counteracting some of the negative aspects, but Ive a lot more to gain if I quit. Plus monkey see, monkey do.. my kids are getting a lot more sweets of late than Im comfortable with.
Bring it on, Jan 1st.
(I have 24 hours to finish all the chocolate ice cream).

We got 2 new sliding door IKEA wardrobes before Christmas and it took Mr M 16 hours to install them (and hes v handy) - so thats money WELL spent JC!

Hope you had a good night Rustop. We are just home. Again, I was the only adult not drinking. As we know them very well, I asked the host for a 'proper' glass, not the heavy, cannot-be-broken childs glass that he handed me. Just because Im not drinking, doesnt mean Im 8

Morning all.
Mary they give us non alcoholic drinks in beer glasses, either schooner or midi size. Bloody gross it is. Amazing how it is seen as being infantile and unsophisticated not to drink alcohol when you're out. It's like you should vacate your seat and let an adult have it...

Just reporting in from New Year's Eve and I can confirm that it is just like any other day as with every year , and not worthy of a drink (or going out at all IMHO - but that's just me)

Looking forward to streaming a couple of movies and yelling 'SHUT. UP' out the window at any late revelers. I have a neighbour who is much better at it than I....'SHUT THE F UP YOU EFFING SHIT BAGS' I like her.

Anyhoo, I will probs be popping in and out in between pottering related activitites.
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Morning campers.
All my working is done for a whole WEEK - :yay:

Serious prep for the (1st) 'wedding of the year' tomorrow.
Nails , eyebrows , hair removal in that order.
I have gone through Christmas with scraggy hair, broken manky nails, hairy legs, and no eyebrows .... and not a one noticed.... quite liberating actually
I think I'll be a hippie (no offence meant to hippy-types).

Well tomorrow I HAVE TO buy some new shoes in the sales. Bahaha

Don't get all worried about your grooming now. I only do it for myself these days, when I feel like it and for the right reasons (I'm in the mood and in between books. And I've just seen Diane Lane in a movie. Or had a coffee with an old school pal who is in much better shape than me. I put my reading specs on and look in the mirror.....gah!!)

I'm going to watch a bit of Broken Pieces and then I'm off to Bedfordshire.
I might peek at you all if it gets loud around here.

Morning, enjoy the grooming satz123.. looking forward to hearing the wedding details!
I won a prize over christmas to get my hair (colour, so good), nails (I have no no toenails since the marathon, nail girl may faint), spray tan (umpalumpa here I come) and makeup (probably all that hairy eyebrow stuff).. Im not sure what I will do with myself on the day I get all of this done, make a few quid on a street corner maybe.

Everyone I talk to seems to be going out this year!! Staying put too, doing lunch for the inlaws the next day. New years day, the year before I stopped drinking, was one of my lowest days.. Massive drunken fight with mr M new years eve, still drunk/shakes the next day, couldnt cook, kids screaming, inlaws on their way... shudder.

Happy new year Bridge and Mr G, you go first!!

Happy New Year you lovely bunch of gorgeousnesses........

Just watched Flash Gordon (just how camp is that), next Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure and then The Dam Busters.

Thank goodness I'm off to the works do tonight. Helps when you work in an alcohol-free place

You know year's ago when all the kids were little and babysitters were far and few between we used to have a mid-winter BBQ. It was fun and daft in the beginning but to be honest in later years it was a sly reason to keep drinking.
It could be worse, I could be filing.
