Re: January 2019 Army Manoeuvres

We too got a kitchen years ago - in DECEMBER.
OMG the stress of these feckers coming & going trying to finish lots of jobs at once. Don't let them do that to you ....
It was never right.

The kitchen fitted 5 years ago - totally different. A one man job and a joy to have around.
A proper tradesman - did everything himself ....
We have never had a moment's problem with anything.

The shortest shift in known history...........electricity and heating had gone just before I arrived...us precious volunteers can't work in the cold.......so have to get re-excited tomorrow over the health and safety video tomorrow.

satz123..........5 years :egad: seems like yesterday.

Soooo many years ago I actually sacked the first kitchen fitter. He and his super duper quick firm kept put the installation date off over and over again....and even worse he called me 'pet'. Now only close family call me pet, so I lost the plot and told him to stuff it. Finally got a bloke and son combo..........brilliant.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

starty - funny you mentioning lack of cravings in the same sentence as wanting to feel better. I have moments where I do have a mental craving but try to offset it with thinking about feeling better. More specifically about myself and life generally (not that i'm a morbid fecker that thinks life is shite and who sucks emotional blood from any poor soul i meet) (well I hope not anyhow) :haha:. It can work. It's the wee things - like phoning me maw after school for advice on my aunts 70th b'day present. Sometimes this would stress me a wee bit, or have me think negative thoughts about me maw. but didn't. It was an easy straight forward call. My mind was able to think more rationally and immediately thought, 'bet that's from a week off the grog'. Know what I mean. I'm hoping that and a wee bit of mediation may also help my patience with tending to 27 kids daily.

Off to vegetate.

Evening RC and all to come. Had builders in 15 years ago and still have not recovered. Hate the idea of having any work done. Managed to get a walk in this morning before work, very dark but mild. We are promised cold weather later this week, not looking forward to it.

We bought an old cottage and took so long (self) renovating that there seemed to be someone doing something for years.. Mr M did a large amount, but half the time I wouldnt notice if he was a builder, electrician, plasterer or himself. Maybe its no surprise I drank so much :hmms:

They keep threatening this cold snap rustop59, but the forecast (on all my 25 weather apps, because I am Irish) doesnt look too bad. Yet.

RunningCourage; I get that about the call. I think its also getting our mojo back. Feeling more confident and in control.

Im on the last chapter of The Milkman by Anna Burns. Its like nothing Ive ever read before and Im going to miss it.

Morning folks, not a lot to like about theses dark January mornings then I remember that I get to see the sunrise, always a silver lining if we look for it. Although my substantial experience of builders over the years makes even that a difficult task.
I know what you mean about the book Mary, often a choice for me whether to pass on a really good book or keep it for a re-read at a later date. Currently reading all about Wabi Sabi, nice way of looking at the world imo, check it out.
Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

Morning,
Appointment made for tonight to discuss exactly what we want and how much it'll be. Then we'll realise we can't have what we want or afford and back to the drawing board. :egad:
Mr. JC is taking his Dad for a hospital appointment. Pa-in-law isn't well at all. Mentally as bright as a button.

Currently reading Madam Bovary (again) and Peter Crouch's My Life as Footballer (hilarious).

Did the sensible thing and rang Barnados and the heating's back on. Bacinabit.

Evening all. Must check out all the recs. Need and want to get back into reading again. Right now staring at Netflix or catch up TV is about my limit Been eating so much crap that I feel sick today. Ah well, time enough to make improvements I guess .

Had a meeting about my reduced hours. They have offered me my own job but sharing it with the returner.......who doesnt want it but wants her old job :haha: so will need to see what happens there. I have said I really want to be doing 3 days by 1st March so will see what happens. Must be hard to come back after maternity leave when everything has changed and all is up in the air for her. Hopefully she will accept what they offer and even like it

We went and picked a kitchen. :egad: The lad we know knocked 10% of the price. Another :egad: as we weren't expecting that at all. I actually filled up and Mr JC did this manly coughing thing.

starty......fingers crossed.

Documentary about the Red Arrow tonight and then a bit of sitting like a startled hen for a while. Can't believe the changes we're doing.

Fantastic about the kitchen JC! When do they start?

A few good books there, might check those out. I never reread a book! Mr M and eldest son think Im weird. I also never go on the same holiday twice - that probably is weird.

Sounds like things are moving starty. You have been very patient in all of this, Im glad your giving them a target date. Hope your throwing 'looking after your mental health' into the conversation too. Does Mat leave girl only have to do 2 days then? Whats not to love!

Evening Army.
Nothing much to report chez Satz.
Rosie is as mad as a hatter - but great fun... she loves squeaky toys but many have died in the nightly battle with her :haha:

In all the fuss of the wedding of the year I forgot to mention the groom's sister, who was at the wedding and stayed up 'till 4am :egad: 2 days later quietly went into hospital and delivered identical twin girls .... I can't wait t see them.
This is the daughter of pain-in-the-arse SIL - but I'll just ignore her while she prattles on...

Good morning everyone. Don’t think it was your computer Bridget, the site has been giving trouble, I could not get on the other day. Fingers crossed Starty, I work the 2 days and love it. Oh two babies Satz, lovely. Don’t envy them the work but all the more for you to cuddle. Any news on the kittens Mary? You know in Norway nearly impossible to find, you need a license to breed, my daughter was half thinking of bringing one over from here but they managed to get a rescue. Waves to JC, RC, Tabs and everyone else, off for a walk.

Morning,
Just peeked out the kitchen window and its snowing.......big fat flakes lying on the ground type snow.....:egad:

IamMary.........got the fitter coming in the next week for a look see and beginning of about 6th March. There's a wrecking crew come in on the first day who gut the kitchen down to the bare bones. They're talking 4 and a half days start to finish so I've doubled that in my head. Have left the flooring until its all in. Part of that is after an hour or so my brain stopped working.

Still not sure what's wrong with Pa-in-Law. He'll get the results of the tests later this week. Mostly to do with aging, I'm afraid. Luckily my in-laws still have the brain power to do the Times crossword without google.

rustop59........interesting about the cats. One little law like that over here would be fab.

satz123..........has Rosie got a favourite yet?

byebyebridgetjones.........wondered where you'd got to.
