Your concern is one I've struggled with, also. I would like to be like Rusty and others in various threads who manage to write the kindest, most inclusive posts. It does feel good to be mentioned or responded to. Early on, I kind of desperately needed people to pay attention and mention NoSugar and felt rejected and unappreciated when no one did. But -- this way MY problem, and part of the whole psychology that probably left me open to addiction in the first place!! That need for external validation and approval is a killer. I continue to work on it.

At some point I became healthy enough to realize how ridiculous I was being and decided that for MWO to help me or anyone else, we needed to use it the way it works for us, which might be entirely different to anyone else, and try not to worry about it. I remain amazed by the people who rarely post but for whom MWO provides what they need to stay sober. But my incredulity is only because that approach was completely unsuccessful for me. I am impressed with the people who have a kind word for everyone who has posted recently in a thread. I realized, though, that if I pressured myself to do that, I would choose not to post at all. Sometimes I was afraid I would forget to mention 2 out of 12 people, assuming (probably incorrectly) that that would hurt them like it did me in the early days. Other times, I just have nothing constructive to add to the conversation.

Especially when we're in the early days or struggling, I think it is important to use MWO however it works for you, especially if it is your main or sole source of support. We're all adults here, like satz123 has pointed out, and as addicts, need to do the work on ourselves not to need or expect validation from others. I kind of dislike this phrase, but, You do YOU, Starty. We are glad you are here. xx

Thank you NS. As always, sound advice. I am not great at typing out posts I think partly because I am looking at a screen and typing for 9 hours a day...and my head is fried when I get home. I am quite delighted to have got through day three without telling anyone to do one. That is a huge result

Evening everyone. Great to see nearly everyone back in the barracks.:hug: Starty, hope you got through today ok. Personally I find that checking in every day keeps me accountable. In past quits I stayed away and just kept drinking . Sometimes itÂ’s hard to reply to each and everyone but I think we are all happy just to see the regulars pop in to say hello and to know they are ok.

Hope the first day back at work and school went well for you all. Mine was very quiet but I spent some time organizing stuff for hubbys bday. He is 60 on Friday. Does not want a party, thank goodness so will do family dinner on the night with cake etc, and we will go out to restaurant Saturday night.

You have been a busy bee JC. Do you have to pay for the talk therapy? Must get back to meditation myself. You still doing the yoga and meditation Tabs? Need to go feed my hungry doggies.

rustop59..........Its free and self-referral.......you don't even have to tell your GP if you don't want it on your health records.........but that's not a bother for me. They did a short telephone assesment to see if I fit their criterier........I have a longer telephone one later in the week to find a counsellor who will suit me and then all systems go. Finally seems like the NHS are getting to grips with mental health.

Mr. JC's 60 later this year. He would have had a party but he's going on the S&H's stag weekend somewhere like Benidorm..........that'll do. I might let him pick the colour of the new kitchen.

starty.........it was terrifying and humbling. We're out the other side and better for the experience. We missed bankruptcy by a hair's breadth.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Morning all. Went to sleep at 8pm and was exhausted. Slept a bit better too!

Jax I cannot wait to have time to be creative with food, services and not pay out so much to have stuff done. As long as we can look after ourselves and our boys (doggers) and have a couple of trips away in the year it will be enough. We have never been big spenders but with age comes less energy and we do not have the energy for our demanding jobs and to do all the stuff in the house that needs doing or even what we want to do.

Rustop, yes I agree, checking in is a way of making us accountable. But suddenly a day is missed and you cant catch up and then I am not checking in and so it begins again. I am not saying that not checking in is the cause of my demise at all. But I think it is a tool to keep ones mind on track.

Hoping for a peaceful day for all

Good morning. Lovely to log on and see Starty and RC back. Lots of sleep, Netflix etc Starty. You know it’s the simple things that are the best, walk in the country with the doggies, costs nothing and is food for the soul. Had too much of it this morning, still have my sister in laws dog and walking 3 on leads on road is challenging. They are coming back Thursday so only another few days with her. Better get ready for work, have a good day everyone.

Re: January 2019 Army Manoeuvres

Good morning from a cold and snowy Athens!! We got about 7-10cm of snow overnight. Pic was taken in front of our store when I opened up at 8:30. Very few vehicles on the road!

IMG_20190108_083249.jpg

Don't imagine it will last long but it's very pretty right now - sun is shining and everything is white and sparkly!!

satz123 - I saw the pic of the hat - you looked amazing. Well done!! Sorry the whole thing was so drawn out tho'. Bored.com....

starty - you will be amazed at how much you will enjoy having more time and that the decrease in income will not matter in the least compared to what you have time to do. Hope you enjoy it to the fullest. Great work on getting back on track as far as AL and the codeine go!

RunningCourage - I have always admired teachers and nurses - don't know how they do their jobs. Too stressful, too tiring, just too much!!!

JackieClaire - maybe you should check some of your levels like folic acid, etc. Could be something is missing that you need to take a supplement for. Just a thought...

IamMary - best of luck with the pet situation. Cats are definitely much more low maintenance than dogs. Although a doggie like Satz's Rosie would have everyone wanting to take care of her....

byebyebridgetjones - hope your return to work is uneventful. Patience, my girl, patience. And :goodjob: on your continued AF.

Waves to those of you I've not mentioned - Rusty, Rusty, NS, Cowboy and others who come by the barracks.

Tabbers (a.k.a. KTAB) - do drop by as often as you can. We like to see you and Arsey needs some male company here!!

Wishing you all a great day!!

Good morning,
stirly-girly...........Hell's bells. Snow :egad: We've got 7C and very mild.
Funny you should mention folic acid.....my MIL has taken it religiously for years.........she's 94 next month and while she's frail, she's got all her buttons and swears by the stuff. She's adamant that it helps with her memory among other things. Luckily Barnados is an outlet in our Tesco so can pick some up..........it can't do any harm.
While I'm on how's your special friend?

IamMary.......my granny said to rub a little butter into cats paws when they arrived at a new place. A very old wife's tale but something to do with they take so long cleaning it off they stay put rather than wandering.

RunningCourage..........Jenny's luckier in that fact she teaches 14plus so can do a fair bit of prep at home and set homework. A bunch of overtired, post-Christmas 5 year olds would unravel her.

Waves to Rustletop, Starty and all those yet to drop by. Better go get this induction done and try and find a posh winter coat. We're at a posh wedding at the beginning of February can't just shrug my trusty parka on.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Re: January 2019 Army Manoeuvres

Yo. Home by 5pm and I just wanna go to bed.

Gotta prep additional stuff - like me and another teacher are directing/producing/have responsibility for the school show. Now, the theatre may have been my first vocation, but in terms of schools show, I shy away. Anyway the other teacher, i sense, feels it's really her responsibility..(like we had a meeting on Saturday and every idea i put forward she eventually dissed....!!). I did some thinking on this and thought: put in the work arsey, but don't stress about if it aint what you'd do. If she has a vision, let it be. Support as needs be. Trying to pick my battles, know what I mean? I fight with myself so much as it is, I need to let something go.

But....
TOP OF THE TO DO LIST
1. i need to write a letter to my Aunt -
*note to self: never forget how to write a proper snail mail letter. Way better to receive than an email.
2. school stuff
3. netflix with toast and ovalitine
4. read in bed
5. sleep in bed

Gee, I sure live life to the max:

:harhar:

Got to Barnardos and the manager's off sick anyway I still start Friday and have to read through the dreaded office manual before they let me looses in the shop.
Luckily did get a winter coat got in a panic as they're clearing the winter stuff out and putting their spring lines out. Contrary to the weather report this morning of fairly mild it was Baltic out there.

RunningCourage.......sounds like's she being 'precious' with her ideas. Its lovely to write a proper letter and fabulous receive one. Your homework for the week

New series of Silent Witness tonight or as we've called it for years Witless Silence.

Totally agree Rustop. The walking with the dogs is probably my favourite activity and walking in the dark on pavements as I have to do all winter is not my idea of fun for either me or the boys. It will be lovely to get out and about in the daytime with them. I never walk mine together on my own so take my hat off to you doing that.
