Tragically around the world thousands every day.
Then there's the cancers that alcohol causes, the brain damage, the 'politeness' on death certificates, dementia it causes, depression and other mental health issues and on and on and on. Until the deaths are properly recorded no one will ever know.
Just listen at a funeral when someone says 'he/she liked a drink'.........'he/she was the life and soul of a party' when we know, just know it was something to do with the drink.
Just the wind and the torrential rain today. We've had the blind pulled down in the kitchen so we just couldn't even look at it.
Haven't even looked at the forecast. I'll put me big cardi in my bag just in case just on top of some lully gloves I got from a friend for Christmas.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

I dont think theres a thing in the world that you can do satz123 that you haven't already done.. stand back and hope he survives the train crash.
Best thing you did was adopt Rosie.
Hows your mam doing, with all her flower friends :happy2:

So right about whats said at funerals JackieClaire
Good article on Saturdays Guardian on the children of alcoholics.

Did a short race today, but the high lasts hours.

Could not cope in that heat Bridge! ANy plans for the bank holiday?? starty, you could have 2 bank holidays a week very soon!

Morning all.

 to JC on the anniversary of your ma's passing. Hard these things. I count my lucky fortune cookies that my maw and paw are still about and appear healthy.

Doc, sorry to hear YS is causing strife again. One thing I have done - and continue to do - to help me with any wayward negative drinking thoughts is to hook onto folks I know, respect, like, admire who don't drink. And I don't mean the world athletes such as Andy Murray, but friends I see. And I think if they can, I can. They don't need to nor do I. Sure it hasn't;t always worked, but it's just like a guide. Like street lights along the walkway when things are darker.

Just back from Brighton having done a very muddy, painful and nearly abandoned it half way through 28 mile marathon. My brother had to push my sorry ass so as I'd finish in a reasonably respectful time. Now to school. God I could do with a day - nae a week - off.

Happy Monday folks.

Good morning everyone. :sohappy::sohappy: Mary and RC, well done on your races. Another bonus of being alcohol free. Absolutely Baltic out there this morning but have walked the doggies so they can now snooze for the day and supervise the roofers. Still here and job has now extended to having the whole of the back of the house re-roofed! Better get ready for work.

Morning,
Only three more days left of January. We've got this far and we're still standing. :applouse:

.

RunningCourage@IamMary.........Well done on the races.

My in-laws are 89 and 93 and still the full shilling. I'm so grateful for them. Pa-in-law's got a CT scan this week just for his legs. The docs are still a bit puzzled.

rustop59.........did a peep out of the curtains. Not bad but not going out making a pot of soup. Don't envy you with your roofers.
We start our big kitchen cupboard clean out tonight as there are only two bin days left 'til the kitchen kerfuffle.
There must be peanut butter, solidified honey and who knows what from the last decade lurking in there.
If anyone would like a selection of novelty mugs, pint glasses, odd saucers and plates.........I'll leave them out the front.

I wonder if Bridgee's still got her feet in the fridge??

Going to have a read of that article that Mers posted.

Edit: I've read it and bookmarked it. Will be showing it to my two.

You too JC. Have you sorted your kitchen :congratulatory: Ever heard of Marie Kondo? We are reading one of her books for book club this month. She’s on you tube and Netflix too, check her out. Night everyone else.

Nope. Will have a look see.
Have your roofers finished?

Just the two cupboards. Anyone want some half eaten chocolate spread, half a jar of peanut butter, out of date sweeteners, instant lemon tea mix (out of date) and some sage leaves.

They're delivery the kitchen on the 23rd February.......where in feck's sake are we going to put all the stuff.........they don't start 'til the 25th.:egad:

Well done RC on the marathon, your some man!!

Made excuses about a work night on Friday, they had a great night by accounts, all hammered. Felt a bit 'boring' today, listening to the stories, but feck it, had a better Saturday than all of them put together.
I'm glued to a novel called: don't make a sound, I wish it was quarter to 10, not 12

Up and early... but my legs are feeling worse than they did yesterday :haha:

Canny wait til the weekend.... where I can do next to nada.

How's the kit hen situ JC?

Not hear of of Marie Kondo but my SIL recommended a book about decluttering - zen type of book, apparently with own series on Netflix. Need to find as I'm a bit of a hoarder.

Must off and get ready for the day. Have a good one troops

Good morning all. That’s the one RC, she has a series on Netflix. If it does not bring you joy throw it out mantra. So unless those half jars of peanut butter are making you happy JC, out they go. She is all about decluttering, folding properly etc. recommends putting every stitch you own in a pile and then sorting by category. Have to build up to that one, may need a days holiday. You see it is not just my wardrobe I have a stach in the spare room as well :egad: In fairness I do declutter fairly regularly but it keeps building up again so I need to figure out how to prevent that, stop buying I suppose  need to get ready for work, later ....

Morning all. Great work on all the running guys. I seriously admire you and am a little jealous.

Was just having a ponder about serial relapsers ie myself. It occurred to me that we never give up giving up. Never throw the towel in completely and always give it another go. There is a lot to be said for that and in my kinder moments to myself I am proud that it is never an option to just stop trying. From reading posts from others, I think it is similar for them too.

In other news re the work front, there is no news. Ever hopeful that today will be the day I can start planning my life

Have a good one

JC I'm so sorry to hear about your poor Mum. That must have been an ugly thing to go through. Life just has a habit of smacking us fair in the face some times, doesn't it?
I remember the day (night here) that your Mum died Starty. Horrible for you. But if I remember correctly, you sat by her the whole time like the lovely, loyal person that you are.

.
Thanks Bridgey, I am so grateful that I got to do that for my mum. My bro and I talk about it sometimes and we were both with her. Its brought us closer. Very grateful.

Sorry about the heat. Extremes are tough to deal with so hope it levels out for you soon

In a rush this morning. Being bitter cold it takes hours to get enough layers on.
Yep be proud, Starty. Never give up on giving up. Have you written a list where you think you went wrong last time? It helped me.

I've heard of that woman and seen a bit on the TV. Tbh found her a bit bizarre but curiosity will get the best of me and I'll have another look.

Oh and I've got a free to good home a 3 year old gas cooker. Looking to flog the dishwasher, its only 6 months old.

Getting my locks cut after work. Just as well the hairdresser is two doors down from the shop I'm in.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

rustop59: I've started Step 1 and lovingly spread out tops & jeans and fold then nicely.
Not ready for 'the pile' yet either. I have spilled into spare room too. There are lots of clothes I know would bring me joy - if I wore the bloody things and not save them for a special occasion.
The wedding outfit is now consigned to spare room, to hang forever, never to see the light of day again. What a waste. 600e worth. Never again.
It'll be cheap & cheerful next time .
