Hi Mary, I am very grateful for this. And yes it has been a long time coming. I started thinking/planning in 2017 so almost 2 years. Worth the wait though. Mat girl not started yet, I have been trying to do the job in 3 days. It has been hard, I have been in at 7.45 and leaving at 5.30 but its weird, I have not been too exhausted as I know it was only 3 days. Not got everything done in that time but I have managed to prioritise the urgent stuff. She starts on Wednesday and then I will try and train her for 1 day a week. Hope that she picks up quickly. She will be familiar with one aspect of my job which is escalated complaints and she will be able to do some of that from the get go. The other stuff will take more time.

Whats bag packing?

Jax that sounds gross, do you take some anti bac and wear latex gloves :haha:

Shoes look lovely. I have to be careful with shoes as I am getting bunions to add to my ageing woes. Praps I could have them done once the old hip is sorted !

Good to see you tabbers!

Off for a 10k walk in the woods at 7.30. Perfect start to my day

Morning everyone. Lucky you Starty, it is a wonderful way to start the day. Went on a hike with my crochet group yesterday, over your side Mary, Howth head. Nice to go somewhere different and had lovely lunch in Crabby Joes. Beautiful morning here so hope to get a walk in at some stage. Nothing too exciting but it is the small things that matter.

Morning,
starty........bag packing. Usually children at the end of a supermarket till packing your bags for a donation to their cause.........something like a new scout hut or laces for footie boots. They tend to squash yer bread.
Would you believe I was shown how to wash my hands properly when I had the C-Diff last year........out goes the bacterial handwash and wash them thoroughly under a running tap with soap. Its what surgeons do. I did the 'well I never did' thing. Obs if you're half way up Ben Nevis , in any ladies toilets on the planet or the like they're fine.

I will get the hang of opening a bag and just being able to smell whether its just musty or down right barf-worthy. Luckily this week its stock taking.

Tabbers (a.k.a. KTAB)........got to ask, what lead you back to drinking?

27 years ago today our Jenny had the hole in her heart repaired........ a day that will never be forgotten and a day that will always be celebrated. I often think about the other wee ones that were in intensive care that day and wonder how they're going.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

I missed that! Sorry tabbers, Thought you were just plodding along here

Amazing JC. 27 years ago and she sounds like she never looked back. Cant imagine how those weeks were for you.
starty, bag packing is when you pack peoples bags at the end of the supermarket till. Have the chat and secretly examine the contents of everyones trolly. Shopper throws in their lose change. Its a big thing over here, for clubs in particular.

I don’t suppose there is ever a simple answer as to why ‘we’ do pick up a drink. I guess I could say I just got lazy and dropped my guard but it’s probably nearer the truth that I just stopped caring.
Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

I love Ardgillan!! Its gorgeous there I would love to go back someday.

Tabbers sorry to hear you are drinking again. Stopping caring is understandable at times. Sometimes it is hard to see the purpose of why we are doing it when the daily grind seems, well so grindy.

Any plans to stop again?

Hi Starty, I am on that well worn path again. Not drinking very much and not every day. I know well I can get sober again, that’s not the issue, staying stopped is.

Hi Mr G, great to see you racking up the sober days my friend.

Hey tabbers, I know that feeling, its even tougher than when we are drinking so much we feel we are at rock bottom. Do you want to stop or are you enjoying it just now?

I was a bit taken aback by that question tbh Starty, it was the word’enjoy’.

Do I want to stop? Yes, but am I 100% committed, not sure.
Am I enjoying it right now? I hadn’t considered that. Honest answer, I haven’t enjoyed drinking for well over a decade I would say. Unquestionably an addict.

I just read a book, KTab, that so clearly explains the lack of enjoyment for an addict and why it can never be otherwise, that I think I finally understand it. I posted a link to it in the NN and Steppers thread if you’re interested. I highly recommend the book in general and to people like us in particular. All the best to you, NS

Ahh tabbers, yes, I understand that feeling too. Its that little voice in the back of our minds that asks if all the effort is worth it and am I setting myself up to fail blah blah. At least you are still here and even if you are still drinking, I dont think you have thrown the towel in yet!
