Re: April Army Thread 2019
I agree with paulywogg and starty there is little discussion about alcohol.
When I joined - yes there was drama, rows etc but as I've said before it was just the colourful array of posters that we had. I know many disagree with me on liking the dramas but I think I'm a big girl now and can handle the occasional curse word or row..
When I logged on in those days I looked forward to what would be going on. Everyday hum drum sober living inspired me. Drunken rows also made me cringe but want to get sober.... It just worked.
Less than sober posts were the norm but I'm sure many a sober life was forged after reading their drunken ranting illogical post next day.
Also as I've also said before and is only imho - maybe MWO has become too PC and unaccepting of oddballs. We have become TOO CLEAN & SOBER :haha:

Evening folks, I know I don’t post nearly as much as I used to but I for one would be very sad if this place ever disappeared.Last edited by Tabbers (a.k.a. KTAB); April 15, 2019, 04:23 PM.Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

The last of months of my drinking were packed with suicidal thoughts.........I had reached my bottom.
I can fool myself into explaining why I haven't, but the truth is, I wanted a way out if I needed it. I think Im still holding onto that.
Is everyone else here more honest with friends and family? I know you are JC..AF - July 19th 2015 :happy2:

Who knows when you will say the one thing that resonates with another person and sets them on a path to recovery .......

IamMary..........its just close family, just the kids & their partners and Mr JC. My two good friends...........one of them lost her brother aged 53 through alcoholism so she's fascinated by the whole recovery stuff. She often asks how I got out of the Hell hole and why her brother just couldn't despite three trips to re-hab, many detoxes.....his heart & liver gave up on him in the end. She feels she could have done more and feels easy talking to me about how (to use an AA phrase) cunning and baffling alcoholism is. I'm trying to bang it into her head that its not her or her sister's fault......... Its not his fault either.
Think the rest have an inkling but when you're Dad was a recovering alkie and your Ma dies from it......its an easy equation. Two cousins (I've got many more than the average family) both shuttled off aged 66).
New people I meet I just tell them if it crops up especially when I talk about where I used to work......I'm a volunteer at Barnodos........what can they do sack me??? What's the reason going to be.........a nearly 10 year recovering alcoholic admits she was a raving alkie and dares to volunteer for us.
Just a thought
How's about a New Newbies nest or get it made a sticky (think that's the word) so its the first thing you see when signing in for the first time.Last edited by JackieClaire; April 15, 2019, 06:07 PM.It could be worse, I could be filing.

Re: April Army Thread 2019
I have not shared my deepest struggles with anyone really. Way too embarrassed and nervous about where "confession" might get me. Like tabbers I feel it is a very private matter which ultimately probably is not my best decision but that is how it is.
A new newbies nest is a great idea, it would need to be supported though I would imagine and maybe not just left to its own devices. I think when people first start to quit they are looking for tons of up to date threads with new info and people in early recovery to resonate with. That is probably why the bigger sites thrive. Then on the flip side, they are so big it is easy to get drowned in them. There is no shortage of addicts around, just harnessing the buggers and bringing them in the key :haha:

You have said it Starty and this is just my opinion but I feel most members here are of a certain vintage (not you Mary or RC) and perhaps that does not appeal to the younger folk?. Good to have a back up plan, thanks NS. Hubby knows I have a problem, probably not the full extent but anyone else none of their business.
Not a very nice morning here but got short walk and now it is off to work.

Re: April Army Thread 2019
That's a great idea NS regarding the back up plan.
There are some good forums out there. Living Sober is good and a spin off from 'Mrs D is Going Without'
SMART has a lot of resources and the online meetings as mentioned.
Only another couple of days left of this week. Public holiday on Friday of course. Can't come soon enough. A nice long weekend of gardening and 'self care'which has come up a lot in conversation lately although I don't do it nearly enough. If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?
