I drive a hybrid Satz, we have free car chargers in work, so I dont have to use petrol much, most of the time, Im driving around for nothing.
Looking into solar panels, for hot water and the car - lots of options out there and costs vary massively. I love the idea of being more self sufficient.
I know there's a much bigger picture out there and you're right, what we do wont make a blind bit of difference, but it will to our pockets.

Is it me or is it not too dramatic a change ? - to be getting our panties in a twist. Do we not accept that the climate will change and we will all have to adapt ?
Down the ages is that not what we & the animal kingdom have had to do ?

I am possibly but very ignorant of the whole situation. But ... when I see a small country like Ireland (4 million) targeting our few farmers for emissions from grass fed cattle while importing beef from huge producers in Argentina & Brazil.
Also the government telling us reduce our carbon footprint & switch our few meagre cars to electric - I grow very cynical.

I wonder what the feck it is that they are up - they want to distract us from
I'm worried: What are the effects of climate change?

The media does randomly target some "offenders'' while our govt ignores lucrative industry because it doesn't suit them (much like the tax laws), I take your point on that.
It really brings it home to me when I spend time in the garden and notice how in a few decades the flora and fauna sitch has changed so much as well as temps.
I'm not so worried about myself because I've boozed so much that I won't make old bones. If this becomes exponential though, I really worry about the kids.

Up on my soap box I go :

Oh Mers I love all the innovation that it has caused and the knock on of saving money - don't get me wrong. Anything natural AND saves money has my vote .
But we are also losing jobs as companies move to China & India where taxes are not imposed on emissions. So we are just moving the problem to a different part of the world to save our little part ?

And I love Ireland's innovation re plastic bags because I love nature & I do not want to be my bag that chokes seagulls. So I am first to embrace all these simple changes that won't save the planet but will make it easier for us to share it with other species.

It's the hysteria that temperatures are rising and we are all doomed that annoys me. Earth climate changes are cyclical and species adapt or die off naturally. Who misses dinosaurs chasing us for dinner anyway ?

From 200BC to 600AD we had what was known as the Roman warming when grapes grew in the open as far north as Scotland.
The Dark Ages between 600 and 900AD was a cold period. Then came the Mediaeval warming period from 900 to 1300AD followed by the Little Ice Age between 1300 to 1850 AD when the Thames in London regularly froze over and fairs were held on the ice.
From 1850 to 1940 we had another period of warming followed by a period of cooling from 1940 to 1975.
When I was at school, scientists predicted that we were entering another ice age.

We can do what we can within reason but they should stop the scaremongering. We're rearing a generation of neurotics.

All this is based on the belief that climate change is man-made. Other scientists, mostly unheard, consider we are being very conceited trying to stop it because it they believe it based on solar activity. If climate change is caused by changes in solar activity then the billions currently spent on reducing CO2 is being wasted because they will have no impact on what happens to the world's climate. The changes are beyond our control and resources should be used to adapt to the consequences of climate change rather than trying to stop it.

Here endeth Sunday sermon on a Saturday

I'll now go to work with my old folk  - where the human emissions are really bad ..... :haha:

Re: July Army Thread 2019

Morning,
Sorry I've got to make this short. A squillion things to do today only 13 days to the wedding and we're in Scotland next weekend and Pa-in-law's birthday to sort out and some pearls to be restringed.
satz123..........I heard more or less the same thing the other day........and we're a family that have been recycling since wayyyyyyyyyyy before recycling became the thing to do and we'll carry on.
One thing that bothers me is the bottles of water. I've not long come downstairs and there's four on the kitchen top. We shove one in our handbag, the car.......we don't do anything with the bottle of water. Phone in one hand water in the other.
Make that two things the amount of plastic used to wrap things. Apart from the fact it makes stuff 'sweaty' what's wrong with a paper bag or just a hessian bag.

It hammered down with rain last night and it was marvelous.......although we could have predicted that.......there's a big air show at the coast today and in its 31 years I can count on one hand how many times its been sunny. We're quite adroit at recognising the planes just by their engine noise.

Must away.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Evening all.
Busy day, we have a SKIP. I actually didnt think we had enough to fill it, but its chockers already and we havnt even moved up to the attics!

Agree with you satz123, climate is cyclical. I ignore the hysteria. Sure Y2k was going to to be the end of civilization.
Guilty of bottled water, not for still, sparkling. Thats my indulgence instead of wine and Im not ready to curb it yet :egad:

Only 13 days to the wedding JackieClaire!! that snuck (sneaked) up fast.. Is there great excitement? Have you anyone staying with you?

I read somewhere that living with your teenager daughter is like living with your best friend or Satan, there is no in between. Whatever about climate change assertions, that is a very accurate statement.:bi_polo:

Night all X

Morning All.
We have the most stunning sunny winter day here. I jumped up nice and early and started with the watering and so on. Not too long before the Spring seeds can go in at this rate. I'm going big with the propagation this year. Made a massive seed order online and as soon as the weather turns I'll start taking cuttings. May need a new greenhouse this year I think. Work just gets in the way of all this.

Are we going to see some lovely (de-identified) photos of the final outfit JC? What a busy but lovely time it is for you all. I'm always amused that you lot still wear hats to weddings and occasions.

A SKIP!!! You are living my dream, Mers.

Back later. The niece has agreed to labour for me in the garden so I better strike while the iron is hot.
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Oh a skip....I :heartbeat: skips. We were skip virgins until last September and we're sooooooooooo looking forward to the next one.
We're getting loft ladders as the final bit of the re-furb once that's fitted all the accumulated detritus up there will be history..........apart from suitcases, a cradle (its an heirloom) and the camping stuff.

byebyebridgetjones..........oh they'll defo be some photos of me and Mr JC. I'll prolly PM.
Hats.........I love hats. I refuse to wear a fascinator mainly because there's nothing fascinating about them.........I'm getting a hat box with this one which will be a move up from pauper to have you won the lotto class.

Bollix just heard from Jenny and her train's been cancelled from York.........because of lack of crew. She's coming up for Granddad's lunch. They'll need to taser her to calm her down.

Love that everyone here gets my skip boast, here its akin to saying that Im going on a 2 week paid holiday to Barbados :haha:
Windy day, but sun is shining.. Bridge your garden sounds amazing, im very jealous. I do a few bits and then get annoyed when they need more attention! Mr M is good, but its time.

Im with JackieClaire on the hats and I love fascinators! although there is a limit..

Hope Jenny makes lunch JC and you have a lovely afternoon!

Morning,
IamMary............that is one fascinator that is fascinating and I'd give that one a go.
Jenny made it.............goodness knows what she said but not only put her on a quicker train for free but refunded her other ticket and she was here earlier.
It was a wonderful day. A day that comes around rarely. The birthday boy loved the attention. When it came to the desserts the staff stuck a candle in his ice-cream and the entire restaurant sang happy birthday. You'd have thought he was 5 not 90.
Good news he's going to make the wedding ceremony. Not sure if he'll stay for the wedding breakfast. Shame Ma-in-law's still not up to it but saying that her new pills and potions there's a teeny glimmer of hope.
Luckily the venue is 15 minutes drive away from their house so a series of quick visits from family with up-dates are being arranged.
And the food was fab.
byebyebridgetjones..........I'm rather envious of you starting your spring planting. Not a lot has been done this year in our garden as Mr JC's not been up to it with his hip.

The weather back to cool and proper Northern. Sleeping is bliss and we don't need peeling off the sheets in the morning.

Waves to all those yet to drop by.

Delighted to hear the big birthday went well. Of course you need some train drama to kick start any good party! What a wonderful age.

Welcome bit of rain tonight. Plants delighted.

Later than usual pickup tonight, the eldest was at the cinema. It occurred to me how anxious I would be as he kept texting a later time "not over yet" etc. And Id be back now playing catch-up, which always means a trouble tomorrow. Shudder.

Night all.

I love pigs. I collect piggy banks, pig pictures, I've even got a pig footstool.............and now I've found next year's holiday destination.
