Re: August Army Thread 2019

Morning and Evening All,
Big wave to Mr G.
By sheer coincidence I just got off the phone with the very same cousin. She has never phoned on Wednesday night, only Sunday arvo when she's not working and very drunk. That was sincerely the most laborious phone call I've had in a long time. I have no right to judge but I would just like to issue an unconditional and heart felt apology to anyone I've ever bored sh*tless with my drunken, borish, argumentative, obnoxious, bombastic, repetitive, pissed conversation. Conversation karma indeed.
It's really driven home to me how satisfied I am to be sober and not back in that hell. I do feel as if I've hit my sober stride again but can't let myself forget how early on it is as you say JC. If that means just staying in my safe little comfort zone for a while, that's what will have to happen.
And Satzy, you are so right. She doesn't give a rats arse about my welfare. She just wants a drinking partner. As a matter of fact, I've always known that she is a diabolically selfish person. She was actually bemoaning the fact that her best friend has just given up all substances. I asked her if she's not proud of her friend and pleased that she's happy and content with herself, but no 'she's boring'.
I think you are all correct. I can't go and I don't want to waste my precious time that way. It's hard to give up a lifetime of doing what suits everyone else and never what's good for me. About time I learned.

You know, if we could all see a video of ourselves in action as drunks, I wonder if we would have drunk for as long as we did? Some of us have had the redoubtable pleasure of seeing wedding videos with our drunken nemesis' staggering around the dance floor. Maybe a spot of CCTV from around the home 'midnight gardening' as I used to do, enthusiastically shredding the flower beds and laying on the path with a sports bottle full of vodka, talking to myself. Addiction is really the thief of dignity, isn't it?
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

byebyebridgetjones yes it is.

You have recovered your life & dignity - do not give it up again for anyone - much less your cousin who if the truth be told would love to be you or the other 'boring' friend. Happily sober.

Oh God - the thought of that video - eek!
JackieClaire - what date is the wedding ?

Re: August Army Thread 2019

It's this coming weekend, Satzy. JC is busy practicing walking for it. In shoes.

I thought a lot about your 'lying like a politician on voting day' comment, JC. People don't lie unless they are covering something up, so we must have been aware that we were doing something wrong in some way. Otherwise we would have boasted about the half bottle of vodka per night and then off to work. Probably to our colleagues - why not? There are so many signs and we refuse to see them.

Morning and evening to Bridgeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee,
By using the time and date calculator the wedding is............86,400 seconds
1440 minutes
24 hours
1 day
Or tomorrow !!!!!!!!

Trouble is these days you have to be a billionaire to get a 'venue' for a Saturday. I am beginning to hate the word venue. I have my teeny tiny request that my sparkling water (Highland Spring) be in a lovely glass not the great chunky tippy cup they give non-drinkers.

You know, I was always tanked up before we got to any going out situation and so a good few people thought I was a bit of a light-weight when we were out.

Just a quicky as I have to dash into town. Tbh I'm not in need of anything massive just need a couple of hours out of the house.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

byebyebridgetjones, if you can hold your nerve until closer to the event, play along, and then be struck down by some thing awful, but vague. Nothing is worth risking your sobriety for. One day she might understand.

Morning,
Today's the day..............we're babbling with excitement.
Fab night last night with the S&H's friends. Nothing over the top.
Think I told you a while back that the S&H played the Pharoah in a school's production of Joseph & his Dream Coat and we had it on video. Got that transferred to DVD and we played it last night. Most of his pals that here were in it aged 13/14 were in. All grown men in their 30s now and we laughed, and laughed til we cried.

The weather is appalling, it is chucking it down. We have many, many golf umbrellas.

To the lot of you for your support over the last few months. You've been incredible. :heartbeat:

Hairdresser awaits and last job is to find my other shoe. I'll peak in later from my kindle.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

byebyebridgetjones I think Mers means 'Midlands' Ireland. Thankfully we are a different country - especially these days.
I could be wrong & Mers et al have travelled to the UK.
