Re: August Army Thread 2019

People in the US almost never take all of their sick/vacation days. I think we are work obsessed! It is good to get a glimpse of sane people taking holidays and having a reasonable work/life balance.

It’s good to hear about your son, satz123. Also good that no matter what choices he makes, it isn’t constantly in your face. Maybe he is working his way out of the mess that addicts manage to create for themselves. The good news is, we all know it can be done!

Bridge take the day off + 1 as JC says to make it look authentic and then DRAG yourself back on Wednesday.
Tell them you were overcome with paint fumes

Truth is .... if you were still drinking you'd have had more than a day or two off by now ..... especially as you came down from the trauma recently. But you didn't go BANANAS on the booze as you relaxed - you stopped completely. So proud of you Ms Jones

Completely agree, my 2nd oven is an expensive shelf for baking trays. I never need all 5 rings and dont get me started on the plate warmer....

2 days, stomach bug. Satz is correct, even if you didnt take time off before, how productive were you? This is your 'excellent work' bonus, enjoy :happy2:

Ran 24k today. Thats my 2 fingers up to the booze today.

You are such a sweetie, Satz:love: I'm going to send every bit of white light I can to you and that boy of yours in the hopes that he will be one of the lucky ones that commando rolls off the merry-go-round early. God Almighty, I wish I had.

MAry I don't know how you run like that but good on you!

Well I did it. Pushed all guilt away and am having a pottering day. I never do this so I'm going to enjoy, clean, decorate. I have over 5 weeks of sick leave just sitting there.
I think that's a great work ethic @NoSugar. I know people that really take the mickey with their sick leave and embarassingly end up on an enforced HealthQuest.

Saw the new Tarantino movie yesterday. Very good, but warning, it is 2 hours and 45 mins long... worth it though.

JC you must be so close to finished with those renos now. What a mission. They can be so disruptive. I need floors sanded and all sorts here. Putting it off because I'd have to move out for days. Remember not to put too many beds back in or they'll all come back.

Anyway, I better be off and bake some Anzac bikkies for Mr G coming round for a cuppa. He's a brave fella. Just as likely to be greeted at the door with a paintbrush.

Morning and waves to the sickbed for Bridgeeeee.........there's a nice coddled egg and some beef tea on the worktop.
Himself back at work. Checked the spare bedroom and no offspring in there. I don't have to hare around packing suitcases. The first day in what feels like a century its just me and Bess..........now relax.
byebyebridgetjones..........in the grand scheme of things, there's not much to go. But pinning plasterers, decorators down to dates is a nightmare.
I really shouldn't watch and believe these programmes that can do up a mansion in two weeks on a budget of £300.

IamMary.........there's also a cupboard on top of the top oven. Being a tiny being I can either wobble on top of a chair to get stuff out or wait 'til Mr JC gets in from work.

Just thee and me yesterday,Mers.
Luckily no post-holiday blues. Looked at the weather up there and its still chucking it down.
We were supposed to be going to Paris in October for the Pris de l'arc de Triomphe in October but decided to cancel. Luckily only lost the deposit. Honestly we couldn't leave Bess. Might seem a mad thing to do but she's 15 and too old to leave with near strangers to her. A couple of hundred quid versus a lifetime of her loyalty is a small price to pay.
Headlines from up north.........labradors are basically food hoovers.

Thee and me again JackieClaire, but its still early :happy2:
You're right about staying put, you could go somewhere closer if you needed the break.
Pouring cats and dogs most of today, stopped now. Last Minute bits of bobs for school - one starts back this week and all of them next week. August is way more costly than any other month of the year!
Free education :hahaha:

IamMary........arrrrrrghh school uniforms. I'm positive that the S&H grew an inch a week when he was about 15.........and then they hit sixth form and there was no uniform. It was a blooming fashion show.

I would have had a third child but we once had to buy both our kid's school shoes on the same day :egad: and nearly needed to be resuscitated.

Hi JackieClaire I finally dropped off some time after 3....only to be woken about half hour later with leg cramps...I got them before...and that was the pattern of my night until I gave up on sleep about an hour ago.... well I remember all this and lets face it, it's entirely self-inflicted!

Magnesium and re-hydration. Food little and often. Complan's brilliant.

I was up at Loch Awe last week.........it rained. Mind you, Bess's coat is lovely and soft.
