Re: August Army Thread 2019
Just a quickie
tonyniceday........deeelighted for you.
You'll enjoy SMART. A great alternative to AA if you're not that way inclined.
Pass on the one-day doctor tips, will you? This IBS has finally motivated me to fill in the forms to move doctors.
I'll get Mr. JC to pick up so colofac tomorrow.........I'd dithered around pancreatitis, stomach cancer (I really have to stop watching GPs Behind Closed doors).
IamMary............its not just Paddy culture. You're not a proper Geordie unless you've got a bottle of brown ale in one hand and a ciggie in the other.
Doctors tiptoe around telling people to quit completely........its our human right don't you know to destroy our lives.
Better feed Mr JC, he needs comfort food as he's watching the cricket highlights. It could be worse, I could be filing.

And in total contrast to that.. any aspect of 'people pleasing' that had crept in I have eliminated.. AGAIN -- I don't NEED to be popular... it's harder than it sounds.. but it really and truly keeps me in a good place - and finally (well not really but the other things are very individual I s'pose to me) if I'm tired I don't whinge nag or moan - I go to bed -- that's it!!!
Edit - xpost Jacks - re. the over the counter stuff - pal of mine - (different illness I know ) has chronic asthma all her life - has literally spent thousands on quacks/consultants/hospital visits over the years --- her husband was killed in a car crash in March and she was smashed to ribbons - they told her she couldn't take her humdinger asthma meds for a while so they put her on some over the counter thingy -- she hasn't had a touch of asthma since!!Last edited by mollyka; August 24, 2019, 02:16 PM.Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011

Re: August Army Thread 2019
That's amazing stuff on the OTC meds ..........
Ah Molls : honesty
A guy in work years ago asked me "Would you lie to save someone's feelings" - my answer was most definitely yes!
I do not lie to the extent I did when drinking but I still do to make people feel less bad or to save anguish.
Exhibit A : I tell my mother when I'm leaving "see you tomorrow" - knowing I won't - but with dementia she will not remember.
Exhibit B : I tell the residents in the care home that son/daughter/brother will be here in the afternoon. ( when they ask to go home at 9.30 am)
Finally MrS DOES NOT need the anguish of knowing the real cost of the coat .....
I'm being flippant but I've known people to use the guise of 'honesty' to hurt or put others down - and it's not nice.

Re: August Army Thread 2019
Morning All and a lovely surprise to see Molly back.
Just regarding your comment about your 'mundane' life JC - there is NOTHING and I mean NOTHING as mundane as the life of a drunk unless it it solitary confinement in a major correctional facility, and let's face it, it may as well be! Personally I just can't find enough hours in the day to do all of the things that I am interested in again.
It's not just Paddy culture at all Mary. You should see the excuses and soft action our government comes up with in it's ad campaigns to protect the exorbitant amount of revenue it gleans from addiction. It is only when the cost of health care directly associated with the substance is clearly demonstrated to outstrip revenue from that same substance - that they will take action. It is absolutely about dollars not lives. And culture. Look at the ads for Australian toursim and lifestyle. See if you can find one without a glass off piss in it!
Good on you Tony. As far as I am concerned, every day without a drink is a win. Every. Single. Day.Last edited by byebyebridgetjones; August 24, 2019, 06:55 PM.If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Hola troops.
Corker of a post Jonesy! Solitary confinement, prison walls........same thing, but crazier in that we stay there even when we are shown the key to the door!
Great to see u Molly! Welcome back Rusty!
re asthma. A yoga teacher told me yoga cured his asthma. As an asthmatic and daily speed yoga™ practitioner, i notice certain yoga moves open my airwaves noticably more, with result being a deeper breath. Yoga is an untapped health tool in me arsenal.

Agreed Satz - hence me saying I keep my mouth shut a lot more...I don't and won't hurt people with blunt edged comments..I choose not to engage..but not for one second would i consider consoling an elderly person or a child with kindness a lie...It's lying to myself or about myself i speak of - just me - that's all -

Re: August Army Thread 2019
Morning,
byebyebridgetjones............actually if you think about the last year the JC's had its been a roller-coaster. Nothing mundane about it at all.
But back in the day I didn't need an excuse to drink as long as the day ended in a Y.........that was good enough for me.It could be worse, I could be filing.

Nice to see you back.
Slightly startled by the weather as it is so good. Its a bank holiday it should be hissing down.
Debating on whether to PROGRAMME - Newcastle Mela today or tomorrow. It could be worse, I could be filing.

I few visitors, a bit of gardening and a load of cooking done today. All cooked ahead for the week which is amazing.
And I will also leave a tasting plate of cheese, crusty sourdough and tapanade on the bench for you all this evening. On a Jamie Oliver plank of wood. The tapanade will be served in a jar with a handle and the sourdough will be in a mini shopping trolley. If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?
