You know once I discovered drinking on an empty stomach all bets were off. Advice today............... don't get hungry.

This is me to a tee, JC. I would eat around 10 or 11 am and then not again until AFTER I had that amazingly rewarding first glass of wine at 4 or 5 pm. I then spent the next 4 hours desperately chasing that first effect - and of course, not getting it. I avoided activities and commitments that would force me to eat during the day --- just couldn't stand to give up the RUSH of wine on an empty stomach. The only good thing about all of that was that simply eating pretty much reduced my lust for alcohol. As I write that, I can hardly believe my disordered behavior! So grateful to be done with all of that and actually enjoying food again.

This sort of restraint amazes me....in my drinking I could only rarely have waited until 4 or 5pm....I was very much an "it's 5 o'clock somewhere" drinker!!

Don’t give me too much credit, Tony. The intrusive thoughts would begin soon after the headache went away... and I had to work until 4 or 5. After I quit, it would shock me when I found myself working until my husband got home at 6 or later. No uncomfortable feelings were alerting me to the time. The only downside of that was no dinner started!

Anxiety, after you're car has been driven into and you get home and you're heart is beating in your ears so a quick slug or three of vodka straight from the bottle..........sigh and blessed relief.
Hair of the dog..........a great discovery.
All said with tongue firmly in cheek.

Better feed the big lad, he's just in.

Well, thank you JC...our local ADA has Friday activities and I'm going to join in for the first time today on a little expedition to spot seals, so even if we don't see any, you've given me bragging rights up front!!!

I had a post written last night, then my laptap rebooted Annoying. so I went to bed.

Well done Rustop on getting through the full time week. Im back on monday, after 4 weeks off. Im not dreading it, so thats good. I did pop in for a couple of meetings here and there.

Really, its absolutely fantastic, both of you.

I had a wine O'Clock too, although it didnt start until everyone was home for the night, which got increasingly frustrating as they got older and needed later pickups. Very true about that first drink NS. The entire day built up to it, it lasted 10 mins, then it would all go downhill from there.

Also glued to Mindhunter, but its a bit early, not Netflix O'Clock yet - see how restraint I am :smile:

Evening and morning to our Brigdeeeeeeeeeee,
Just watched Gardener's World. Decided Bess may marry Nigel if she so wishes. We are waiting for the request for her dowry.
Rediculous how Friday nights have changed from the blur of red wine and now I'm overexcited by the fact its an hour episode week next week. Last week's excitement was succulents and cacti and I've been able to put names to some of mine.

Hi, JC. I wrote in the nest the other day about an experience I had that reminded me why accountability is so crucial, at least to me. We are on vacation (but a very busy one), I was exhausted, and we were cooking out. My SIL’s leftover (???) wine was on the counter. I wasn’t tempted to drink it but i realized so clearly that if I’d drifted away from my support and allowed myself to forget where I’d been, it would have been so easy to just pour a glass and head right back to my private hell. Thanks for being here :hug:

Hello to all, the outing yesterday failed to find any seals, but I learned of a place not far away where there is apparently a pod of 400 plus, so that sounds like the making of a day trip soon.

Just checking in really, very tired and looking forward (???) To the last shift of the week later and then 2 days off!

I'm looking at the possibility of setting out on achieving an ambition of a life time and starting an Open University degree course....just looking now but I have to sign up by 12th September if I'm going to do it this year
