Re: September Army Thread

Good morning Army!!!

A lovely cloudy, cooler day here in Athens. Supposed to rain - I hope so. Can't remember the last time we had rain.

As for the knitting - I knit, crochet and sew although the latter is what I do most. Love knitting but I find that as I get older, my hands don't like it so much! First grandbaby got a knitted blanket, the next two got sewn quilts! I have to admit that I didn't know there was a "continental" way to knit. I knit "English" style, holding the right needle like a pencil and just flicking the yarn over the other needle with my forefinger. Cannot imagine tho' trying to knit left-handed!! They have some of the most gorgeous yarns here. OMG, if my hands didn't give me a hard time, I would knit sweater after sweater! Love making things with my hands. I will post the light fixtures and sofa tables that I made after I moved into my apartment last year. I got such satisfaction out of creating them. Have the wood for a small side table but haven't as yet gotten around to making it. Did get back into sewing this summer - a couple of long dresses, a couple of tops and a bolero. So much fun to take a flat piece of fabric and make an article of clothing out of it. I would love to potter in the garden too but the mosquitoes won't allow me into their territory. Little buggers.

Starty - so glad to hear about your hip. You must feel like you've been reborn.

Molls, hope you are feeling better soon. Hate colds!!

Got a huge laugh out of youngest grandkid yesterday. We were sitting at the table and he could see the TV in the living room. Suddenly he says, in Greek of course, - "Mother of God - there's a big shark!!". He's not yet 3. Damn near fell off my chair laughing!!!

Back to the filing. Hope you all have a great day. Catch up again sooooooon!!
For every 60 seconds that you are angry, you lose a minute of happiness.

HAH!!! Let me tell you - whenever my kids needed anything sewn or repaired they'd never have dreamt to come to me -- Joe was always the sewing person!! was never too keen on knitting tho ;-)

Evening all! I'm off to bed - need to get rid of the last of the snots before back to work tomorrow - night all x

Mother of God! That was a big sleep!

Seriously Stirly, that made me snort my coffee. Funny little buggars they are.

Bit of a dull day today. I'm thinking maybe another trip to Bunnings for some gap fillers in the garden. A wander through the park with the dog, who was complaining of boredom last night.
I was looking at Chez Jones last night and realising yet again how much this place fell in a heap when I was drinking, and how much I've acheived over the last week and months just pottering along cleaning here and primping there. We cheat ourselves out of so many simple pleasures when we're drinking.

I also unearthed some old literature from SMART Recovery that I've obviously purchased years ago and 'stored' in the office. I'm going to give it a good look and add it to the Emergency Crash Pack in the interests of 'never becoming complacent again'. SMART have got a very good system together really. Online meetings, very good literature and support. Face to face meetings. I see they are also taking part in research with the use of a helpful phone app to track cravings and provide support that way.

I'd love to see some photos of Rustop's crochet handiwork some time as well . I'm fascinated with people who have that sort of patience. Used to end up in tears when Mum made me sew. I've inherited her sewing machine now but still not mature enough.

That sounds like heaven to me Mary!
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Morning and yoooooooooooo hooooo to Bridgeee,
Would have been here early but slept the sleep of the innocents Then had to watch some rugby.

S&H came round last night with some of the wedding photos, last night. Some of them are awfully twee. Even he agreed.

I received a sewing machine for my 21st.............I used it perhaps twice. My mum could whip out a school skirt or a trouser suit in a day. I could sew in a straight line and believe me I tried. It sat under the stairs for nigh on 40 years then went in the skip last September.

One thing about this alkie business that comes to mind is we need support from fellow travellors..........regardless of where it comes from. AA, SMART, on-line.

Only one @ for now.

mollyka........hope the snots are abating. I'll nip round with some chicken soup.

Half-time...........gotta run round like a loon for 10 mins.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Printers working..........so hope you like spinach and ricotta cannelloni when I finally get round to making it. I've gone off the idea now.
Managed to pick up three Phillipa Gregory books for £1:50 in a charity shop. I'm obsessed by the Tudors. So much so I'm watching it for the 4th/5th time on Netflix. Jonathon Rhys- Meyers :heartbeat:

I know its late, but I really fancy some right now.

I could never get the hang of crochet and knitting was fine as a kid, but never got into it. I would spend hours bent over my sewing machine though. I wasnt as handy as my mam or Mammy JC, but I loved it.

Glad your feeling better Molly.

Cooeee All,
JC I could eat that upside down through a straw. I put mine in the fridge top shelf right hand side and anyone who touches it will pay.:happy2:

Last day of holibags today. I've got to be fair and say I got my money's worth out of it. As usual I wrote a mssive list of things to do and got half of it done. One item was 'Paint the house' .......cough.....always over-reaching. It's a trully great feeling to know there will never be any drinking again and that eventually I will get to everything I want to do and much more.

I also entered my sober date into an app that works out what you've saved (money wise) by not drinking, and it was well into the thousands already. It's looking good for more vodka scarves.

I've always had luck taking echinacea, Molly. Preventative and treatment. (Not sure if I've said that before)

I never got to The Tudors although I wanted to. One of the best things about living now is the ability to stream and binge series. I always used to lose track of them.

When you wake up I will have áctivated' Sunday for you. There will be sun and a roast. Nut roast for vegetarians. Check the oven for updates.
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Morning from misty moisty land.
Up early for the Rugby. Ireland v Scotland...............they've got the best national anthems. Ours is dreadful............I'll bet even the Queen yawns.

As a babe in the high chair, I used to clap my tiny handies with joy at the sight of spinach. I was a very odd child.

Excitement abounds as the loft ladder man's coming the 30th Sept, which means the plasterer can start, which means the decorator will finish before the end of October, which means the frenzy of new curtains will start and pictures can go back up. :sohappy: am I tempting fate.

Back in a minute they're just coming on the pitch.
