We have had two glasses of water.
I can feel the resentment oozing out of my pores.

Bridgeee, last Chrimbo she didn't even take her coat off when she opened her presents as she had to dash to her mothers as her brother was home..............he was home for 3 weeks. He lives in Mexico and guess what they're off to spend two weeks with him next year. The S&H eats here as her mother makes everything out of packets or microwaved...........even the potatoes. He was horrified............tbh don't think he'd ever seen potatoes that came out of a packet.

You know I wouldn't be so angry but it really hurt Mr JC.

Now I'm going to let it go, let it go, let it goooooooooooooooooooo until the New Year. Then the shit will hit the fan .
ahhh ok! I really DO get it - specially when you list all that out... it is so easy to feel resentful - but.... there's always a 'but'!!! you are stuck with her (hopefully for his sake!) for a long time.. and horrible and all as it is - generally the young person will choose their spouse if made to chose. particularly in the early days of a marriage.. if you could maybe let her know how upset you both are without having a confrontation... maybe through the S&H? You brought him up so he knows your expectations of people so he should understand how you feel.. and I'll be honest.. back in the day.. if Joe wasn't able to go to a family 'do' (his family I mean) I rarely went unless I had to... but I really do get how you feel.. just tread gently... very carefully would be my advice -- but what do I know - a catastrophe on legs re. relationships!!!!

(“Drink Wisconsinbly” is emblazoned on our T-shirts: it means to binge drink, and is a riff off an ad campaign that tells us to “Drink Responsibly”.) So it has been more like Ireland here. But the other states are catching up!
That's funny -- and Ireland is definitely going in the opposite direction.. much more home drinking.. and just not as 'cool' these days in all age groups it appears... to be blathered drunk... not that less is being consumed -- just where!!!

mollyka.....just had the conversation with Mr. JC and we're both singing from the same hymn sheet and absolutely agree this has to be handled so carefully....so Mr JC (who's as puzzled about it all like me) and we've have asked for very soft kid gloves from Santa.
The talk will happen in the New Year.

Mr. JC really enjoys going up to see his Ma & Pa these days as he's not gardening or doing odd jobs. A cup of tea, a few biscuits, and a good old chin wag.

The pubs over here are dead. The smoking ban hasn't helped. Believe it or not our local has a book club.
The night club scenes still going but most people get loaded at home before they go out.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Good plan JC. Night everyone else. Same over here, all the young ones pre drink at home and a lot of the pubs survive on their food trade. DidnÂ’t go anywhere Mary, just chauffeuring himself.

Here watching IÂ’m a celebrity with my daughter, at the vote out stage so exciting. Night all l

Evening, JackieClaire, more fool her. We have a few odd balls too on either side too that's given my mother sleepless nights. It does pass and we all forget and then she strikes again. At this stage, we just roll our eyes, but she gets a roasting from my brother in law! all in jest but he gets the message across.
Your right to let it go. For now...

Re: December 2019: International Army

Morning,
satz123..........I think post number 14 puts it a bit clearer. But it can wait 'til after Chrimbo.

More importantly, Mr. JC's being audited today.............the big wigs are in to make sure he does his job properly. He went in early to put up his multitude of thank you cards and hide the umpteen bottles of whisky he's been gifted. I always think its a shame that there's no-one we can gift them to. We can hardly donate them to the Salvation Army.

He's off Wednesday and Thursday for the big tidy. And hopefully we'll get the conservatory decorated and the lights in the garden done.

My friend I was having coffee with today has bailed again. Tbh his voice-mail sounds like he's on the grog again

Anyway gives me time to take a top back to M&S......its tiny (it wouldn't fit Rosie) and also buy some wrapping paper. I also have an urge for a M&S trifle.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Re: December 2019: International Army

yeah - all your hurt and the reasons for it were very clear in that post - and very very understandable.. but yes - as you say - after Christmas.. and just generally - as I get older - I expect less (or truthfully - expect nothing) from people other than Joe or my own kids - and if they are any better than nothing it's a bonus.. very cynical I know - but it saves me from being hurt - I learnt that when the whole thing happened with my poxy sisters!!

Speaking of your mate that bailed - Joe is heading off to Spain with L and R tomorrow morning at the crack of dawn - he's frankly quite worried - and he can't back out now cos it would leave R in the lurch... tricky situation - told him to have the hospital in his google maps!!

Morning all!!

Sorry for the @ but going to have to mollyka...........hope the bug drinker (L?) there has full travel insurance. I know the EU will treat you but they'll not pay for flights home. Found that out years ago when a friend's dad had an aneurysm.
Listen I'll bet it'll be grand.

As well as being puzzled, Mr. JC is hurt............ he will be leading the 'conversation' in the new year. And god forbid I'm never going to do 'you must be here every Sunday for lunch ' thing.

Any way ba humbug be gone. Freezing cold but bright & sunny so a lovely walk up to the shops. Only frustration were the rolls of wrapping paper falling out of my shopping bag.
PTL for us having an M&S up the road.
Oddly enough the background music in Tesco was from Frozen................so I was singing Let it Go all the way home.

Actually while I was at the shops Mr. JC love the RAF and it was their charity day so I bought a wee flying duck. He needs a treat after his audit.

Slo....I know what you mean about the breweries and the bar scene. I live in the Finger Lakes area in NY, which is flooded with wineries! The conditions near the lakes are ideal for growing grapes, and the region is popular with the tourists as well as the locals! Wine tastings are the rage, and I can remember (surprisingly) one Christmas eve dancing on the tables with the owner of the winery!
The bars here are also crowded, especially those with a sports theme. People pack the place to watch the major sports events, especially football! Of course, every commercial between plays is booze related! I was always more of a home drinker, considering the massive amounts of wine that I consumed. I would never have been able to afford the bar tab!

Not cynical Molls just practical and comes from experience. I learned long ago not to expect anything either.
It frees you up from being annoyed when others don't find what we feel is important , as important.

Anyway Jacks no matter what you say will not change how she feels. She may then go out of some kind of duty.
I ,for one, would not be interested in someone coming to see me for that reason.

A bit of reverse psychology - stop asking her and see what happens. She will get a bad case of FOMO ( fear of missing out )

Works with my lot :haha:

At this moment in time, I couldn't give a flying feck. Mr. JC's audit went very well so we can have a happy/merry/food filled Chrimbo.
He's off for two days now. Not that he's exhausted just his firm won't let them carry their holiday days forward to next year.
It could be worse, I could be filing.
