Re: International Army - 2020 - HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Baclofenman..............a big thank you for the the info. My husband is a conveyancing lawyer and it drives him to despair these equity release plans. Not only do the grieving family have to go through the fact they're left with next to nothing..............these firms push hard for a quick sale so they can get their grubby hands on your cash. They're charlatans.
Same goes to leaving a 'little' something to a charity...........just tell your nearest and dearest your wishes.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Evening all, tucked up in the nest and looking forward to a solid 8 hours.

Interesting, thank you Mary. I will give it a try, certainly can do no harm.

Always use an FSA regulated company.

See What Are The Pros And Cons Of Equity Release? | SunLife for some decent advice.

Always take a second opinion from an FSA specialist - Never use an Solicitor or Accountant.

Consider (now Brexit is "sorted"??) selling the home and downsizing - If you are seriously skint you may be better off taking a short term secured loan, charged to the property as an interim solution prior to its sale. Of course you will need to make monthly payments for this but the loan will be re payed upon the home sale.
If I were you I would definitely consider this option.

At the end of the day, IF you cannot afford to live in the home you are occupying you need to sell rather than eat into your equity. This does not mean that you cannot "afford" it, it means you are not able to live as you want or yearn to live.

Caveat as to the area of Ireland you are in:

Despite what Boris has promised you, currently, if you need Social Care and have more than 23k, they will take your house anyway!! - Trust me I have been there. I have no knowledge of the situation in the Republic but I doubt it will be very different, semantics aside.

Just be careful and keep the opinion that you will be ripped off in the back of your mind and don't be upset if you are.

EDIT: I am not an FSA, I have a life experience which, on reflection, is a better qualification than some geek, taught shit, offloading it as fact.
Couldn’t agree more.
Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

But Jacks I always said nothing would be left when I pop my clogs.
I want to live NOW not worry about the amount of money I'll have to leave behind me. I don't give a feck about that TBH.

But the bit I've highlighted WOULD bug me........

My lot slag me for my kitchen gadgets, but this one is FANTASTIC. Use it constantly. Slow cook beef in a curry paste - amazing curry. Or stick in a whole chicken, actually falls off the bones!
Food processor is constantly on the go too, but so is my soup maker, for sauces as much as soups. When I find a free space, next is a pressure cooker (I am sad to be excited about it)

Interesting and good advise there from Bacman. Foreign students are a great income spinner for the summer. You could put up 3 of them, and with your slow cooker, sure your have nothing to do!!

Stand far far away.................I'm in the sick bay and I'm streaming with cold and got sore eyes.

As it stands with us at the moment we've got an insurance policy to ensure we get a funeral and a bit of a party afterward.................anything left over split between the kids. We own a house exactly the same rules there..............they can have a punch up in th garden over who gets what. I should write a will as there are some bits of jewelry I want Jenny to have...............they're not the crown jewels by any means.

Just look at Ma & Pa in law refusing outside help as it may affect what they left Mr. JC and his sister. The in laws are in their 90s and now after all the hoo haa have a cleaner, a gardener and two chilcdren that will visit willingly for a game of card, chess or a chat.

I'm four years older than Mr. JC and I've got COPD..............he'll be 68 when he retires. I'll be 72..........We'd love to sell up and move to Kelso or a wee house right on the borders.

Sounds idyllic...I have no wish to leave it all behind me ..but neither do I want to be a liability to anyone..if I just knew what age I'd pop my clogs I'd just divide up the readies by the number of years!! Joe is older than me and I don't like the idea that he'll be in his 70's before I retire

Evening everyone. Get well soon JC. Back to crochet and learning to crochet a sock, happy days. Going into the city tonight to meet a friend of hubbys for dinner. Would rather stay at the fire and crochet.

Himself retiring in 4 years at 65, I have a few more years after that. Think his pension is going to be ok but again it is probably a conversation we should have. Have to go now and get ready.

rustop you and I would be great fire buddies - avoiding all outside contact if possible.
Saturday morning is coming to you from the bed of knowledge where I will be conducting business until further notice, copious coffee and pupper insitu. Oooo...I just got one of those happy flutters that you get sometimes in Sober World.

Give up, JC. That's what colds are for. If you have echinacea with high doses of vitamin C included then so much the better. Then sleep. It's the only way.

I guess it would be handy to know how long we've got in some ways. Planning for retirement. Making the most of the time you've got left. Doing what you want to do. Maybe that's how we should live our life anyway?

Watched a very scary show last night called That Sugar Film. It was highly dramatised and not quite as academic as I would have liked to see but the message was there....sugar is pretty much the devil. I've been a bit worried of late because I indulged my sweet tooth over Christmas for the first time since quitting. Now I can't stop. And it feels veerrrrrry much like the alcohol 'can't stop' feeling. Logical of course but I'm not in the business of making another problem for myself to solve. I went shopping for substitutes after work but I worry about those too and whether they might be just artificially stimulating the same neural pathways.
Anyway, this is what happens when you lossack too long in bed. Too much thinking.
I'm off to clean! Woohoo!
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

byebyebridgetjones................sounds like a blissful day ahead,
We've managed to get two bottles of Kitty's non-alcoholic ginger wine. A couple of slices of orange and warmed through with a good slug of Kitty's in it will knock this crud into another universe. I must have been proper poorly as Nurse Bessie Boots was lying by the bed she's 15+ years old which in human years is over a 108.
I used the money I got back from the dress to buy a tapestry. I'll get more hours fun out of that than a frock.

We're off to buy some sapling trees tomorrow. Carbon foot-print and all that. Oh and we've run out of chicken soup.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Its a while before I retire. Mr M is 6 years older, so he will get there first. We could really do with looking at our finances and planning.. But then again, my closest aunt and uncle both died shortly after retirement, him of a not very common cancer and her of a broken heart a year or so later - you cant plan for that, only live for the moment.

Can I be a fire buddy too? Im sitting on top of one here and cant heat up, think Im catching JCs dose.. well I hope not. Mind yourself JackieClaire..

Dont think Ryan is calling me with the Late Late show prize, so off to the leaba.

Good morning everyone. I’m the same Molly, it’s a wild one. Quite house so taking full advantage of it, absolutely nothing planned.

Hope you feeling better today JC and that Mary did not catch it. Horrible dose doing the rounds. Had a lovely meal last night and not home too late. Still would have preferred night at the fire.
