Thanks for that Molls, you have brightened my evening

Sorry to hear Joey is going though a hard time. I suppose its all a learning curve, even when we think we have all the answers. Does he like his job?

brit, sounds like MrA is doing really, chat away, we are all following his progress!

And you working in a library, judging a book by its cover JackieClaire :haha:
I think we may judgements in the first 60 seconds, isnt that what the 'interview' experts say. I love figuring out people, trying to see what makes them tick. Now if I had Mollys job, her young one would be a study. Or to be a fly on office Bridge's wall... heaven!!

The troll thing went through my mind.
Listen, you said the truth. We have a few new people here and need to read what you said. This is not a game. I've lost too many friends & family to either drugs or alcohol.

She's a trustee. One of many who raised the funds to save this wee library. Its all done on a shoe-string and goodwill.
I think my heart went out to her when she said (rather sadly) that she doesn't see much of her grandchildren. When I asked why she told me her son's a taxi driver and DIL's a nurse. For some reason, I thought they lived abroad not in the same town.

Very, very clever...........:hahaha:

I'm going on a Stirly hunt. Checked Fb & no sign since New Year and haven't seen her log in here for an age.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Afternoon everyone.

Just sitting down with a cuppa after my lunch. Hope your tummy improving JC. Good luck in the hunt for Stirly, hope all is ok with her. You hope that people are just busy and not getting around to posting but given all our past histories there is always the fear that they have gone back down the rabbit hole of addiction. As Molly keeps trying to hammer home it is not something to play around with, it is life or death.

Speaking of that what do you all think about the Coronavirus? One of the ladies in my Pilates class reckons it is a plan by governments to bump off all us oldies so they do not have to pay our pensions. Think she was only half joking :egad: half the schools in the country were in Italy last week so only a matter of time before it arrives here.

Funny she should think that.
I was thinking it was Trump - who planted the original virus - 'cos the Chinese were getting too big for their boots. They are a force to be reckoned with in the Global markets..... just sayin'.....

Re: International Army February 2020

On the work front I'm amazed at the difference between how staff are treated in my new job compared to the other one.
I've kept some hours in the old place but I find I am now confident enough to say 'no' when a call comes to cover at the last minute. Or make sure I'm heard when I suggest a better way to do things.
I have worked my whole life and if I can be intimidated I feel so sorry for those young girls who are new to the workplace and wiping up others shit is all they feel they are skilled for. They put up with working conditions that are so bad:
• Clock in & out
• Lates are deducted
• No sick pay - even when told to stay home. ( I'm looking into that because it's just WRONG)
• 12 hour days @ 12 euro an hour.
• No paid breaks
• Called in for training but not paid for the hours.

Owner/managers swan in & out in their Volvos and BMWs.
Makes me SO mad.

Shows me how I was so convinced that because of my age I couldn't get a decent job that I stayed for almost 3 years.

Good God Benjy that is shocking...I give out bout my job but it's none of those things...I may stop moaning! So glad you got out to be treated with dignity elsewhere!
Doing a 3 spell today..not enough staff so said I'd do the extra hours..sorta regretting it now tho...getting tired and still a while to go!!

Satz that is awful but I guess it is the same over here.

Hopefully you get the time back in Lieu or a overtime pay (Iam sure you will)

Things OK here but Mr A not as good as yesterday. We seem to have a round of hospital appointments but do feel so grateful for our NHS, as his treatment has been superb.

Lots of TV to watch in front of the fire this evening!

Evening all -- just in and yup I'm tired - but I'll get a half day off in lieu which is nice to have in hand - a treat day for shopping or something.
Had a lovely time working with different folks and just reminds me how nice it used to be - having a right aul laugh as well!
No sign of Joey - now he's either working an awful long day or he may be around talking.... dunno which I'd rather it is... think I need to mind my own business - but tis HARD!!!

Don't know if I dare say this but isn't it just flu.........it can kill the likes of the elderly, the unfit, those with pre-existing conditions. The S&H got swine flu in 2009 he shrugged it off in a couple of days. But he was a fit as a flea and only 21.
My old doctor used tell the difference between flu and a nasty cold was:
If there's a £20 note in the garden and you go and pick it up..............its a cold
If there's a £20 note in the garden and you just can't, can't be bothered.......... its flu.
Of course when Hong Kong flu was doing the rounds we didn't have internet so we didn't go into a blind panic.
Yes I've been to Wikipedia.

satz123..........that's a disgrace. Is there a big turnover of staff?

Ahh, Molls.........sit on your hands and use a bulldog clip for your mouth.

Yep drama.
Jesus we LOVE a drama As you said Jacks before WWW - we knew feck all & didn't panic.

It'll be the Brennan's bread debacle next Molls .............:egad:

ps The funny thing is - before all this happened - the nurse in work had a box of face masks -I says "gis a loan of one for a laugh".
So I went home & when MrS came out of the bathroom I was standing outside with the mask on ..... I thought I was hilarious ..
Now I think I'll get money for them on eBay ....

Yes it's a new strain of the cold / flu virus. It's a worry because no-one was vaccinated against it apparently.
I really do think it's mass hysteria - normal run-o-the-mill seasonal flu kills 291,000 to 646,000 people worldwide each year....
