Good to hear the (big) kids are on the way!

We are tucked away here, only going out for local cycles or walks, so I was a bit taken back by the amount of masks in lidl tonight. I cleared by throat and a woman nearly freaked. Glad I had my plastic gloves.

We're a University city and have a mass of Japanese & Chinese students that wear surgical masks and have done for years..............one of the women I used to work with asked one of them why ............they'd been told we have dreadful pollution in England.

Hi Pauly! What is it like in Vegas? All we seem to hear about over there is New York..
Trump applauding himself while everyone else applauding healthcare workers...and I really have to strongly add shop workers..delivery drivers ..etc etc ..so brave

Re: FORWARD -- MARCH --- ARMY March 2020

Good morning Army and visitors!!!
brit - Mrs. A - so glad to hear your daughter is on her way home. Hugs to you!!
paulywogg - I can't imagine Las Vegas without the casinos, conference, holidayers, etc. It must be almost eerie to see the city like that! Hope you and your family are managing. I know you must be going through a difficult time, with your work place being closed. Good on you for not drinking. Would only add to the stress.

If I have to answer one more phone call about protective masks, I think I will scream. Counted almost 60 calls yesterday. I can understand people being frantic to find masks but I just get tired of having to say the same thing over and over..... no, we don't have any masks and we don't know when a new shipment will arrive... grrrr........

However, on the positive side, the lack of business is giving me a chance to catch up on my bookkeeping chores and filing and such. I could really use a bit of help from JackieClaire since I know she's got experience at office work.

So here is a topic for discussion, if anyone is interested. I went to the supermarket yesterday - a huge store and it's the biggest supermarket chain in Greece. I had gone last week and something had caught my eye but I wanted to see if, after a few days and with the new restriction measures in effect, if there would be any change. This is what is happening - the people who slice the cold meats and cheeses and such were not wearing protective masks. Gloves yes, as they always do, but masks, no. Now any one of these people could be infected by the corona virus but not yet have symptoms and their "germs" as they talk to the customers, will be going onto not only the meats and cheeses but all the surfaces where they are working. Needless to say, I will not be buying any of these products, only packaged, sealed goods that are available. And it got me thinking about take away food as well. How can we be sure that the people preparing those foods are wearing masks. Maybe I'm a little paranoid but I think we have to be as careful as possible. And seriously, if people are off work and housebound, why not cook yourself. Simple stuff like casseroles and soups that will do for a couple of meals. Dunno, maybe I am over- thinking this...

Anyway - wishing you all a satisfying day. I guess that's about the best we can do at the moment. Patience and positive thoughts.........

Re: FORWARD -- MARCH --- ARMY March 2020

Morning all - made it back again from the coalface in one piece . Getting very dodgy in there. But like Molls I feel I cannot NOT go in - if the young ones can do it then so can I. But I have told them I will not go into rooms or areas that have the virus. Some bitchy carers I know think I'm being a diva just staying front of house with my little band of well people - but they can fuck off.
Nurses in full PPE - a resident a day dying - but not from COVID-19 apparently ..... I wonder were 'underlying issues' being used on death certs up to now.
Because the virus is now in the home they've started testing for C-19 on the deceased and they cannot be buried until the C-19 test comes back. That is taking 5/6 days & more.

IamMary Mers the virus is airborne - so - depending on the athmosphere - it can live in the air for a while. If someone coughed & then you walk your 2 metres into that spot you can pick it up. The masks offer some protection I suppose.

Delighted for you MsA & JC that the kids on their way.:yay:

Can someone tell me why planes are still flying - are they just people like young JC & young Brit who were stranded?
A plane surely is a breeding ground for a virus of any kind...

That's a pretty good illustration of the point Pauly. Rapid daily change, sometimes more often. Terrifying.

Wishing that all the missing ones will come home now. There's a young girl locally here that I'm a bit nervous about. Due tomorrow, then tomorrow night even stricter guidelines apply.

It was a horrible experience going to the supermarket today. An exercise in paranoia and stress. Had to shop for my parent in self isolation as well.
It has been an hellaceous week at work and people are getting rude. SO glad it's the weekend. I can see I'll be the 'the one' that people turn to for tech solutions and video conferencing etc. I can't tell you how ironic that is.

I think of your nephew so often Stirly. It sounds as if he has so much potential and is so bright, he must be so resentful. I would be. The boy appears to have moved on better than I have. Can't possibly be true of course, he just doesn't show it and they let things go much more easily when young. I can't and I won't. I just know in my bones that I haven't seen the last of her.

Hope the younger JCs enjoy their pilchards and quinoa......
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Waves to the world.

stirly-girly...........you know that's never crossed my mind............we always buy the pre-packed with the best use-by date including cheese............its only Chrimbo that I go to the special cheese place in town and run amock.

Saddest thing I've heard and old dear with Alzheimers she lives with her husband who's been her carer her years.......she managed to 'escape' for r want of a better word.............was found five miles away and is now been put in a home. Her husband is hearbroken.........all nursing homes are locked down and he fears he will never see her again. Broke my heart.

And yes, Molls, what about the key workers like you............I've got our Jenny (I'll let Ads mum to worry about him) who are looking after the children who just can't work from home those like the drivers, the police, shop workers, home carers ..............a round of applause for all of you :hug:

Weirdest thing last night was when I let the dog out into the back garden after the big clap there a dense fog descended.............cue spooky music.

satz123........We've only got domestic flights apart from one to Holland..........I'm fully expecting there to a lock down on all flights within hours. My theory perhaps they'll be using the pilots for air lifting folk and food.

And expecting a crack down on unnessesary car journeys today. Luckily Mr JC's got exception.............but here's my the question of the day.........he's doing his Ma & Pa's shopping, his BIL is doing his parents............I know they're trying to stop 8 squillion people turning up at the seaside.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Doing a three in a row.

Supermarkets are clamped down on the utter chaos from last week...............all the big shops have security guards............they are letting in three at a time (one trolley and one person) and they are standing waiting outside two metres apart.

They're opening special hours for keyworkers and the elderly.

We got the in-laws shopping list last night...........I'm off in a min to start a shepherds pie.

It includes
Sennocot
Denture Cleaner
Lottery Tickets
Swiss Roll (not chocolate)

We're half ecpecting his Dad to ask for Unicorn flavour crisps.
