I wish it were a myth, Molly. This administration has bungled the testing through its arrogance, stupidity, and incompetence. To divert our attention, they pointlessly try to close our borders to Europeans (but not to UK, Saudia Arabia, etc.). Frankly, if closing borders mattered, y'all should be closing yours to US!

I don't think it is so much the cost as the lack of preparation, test development, and strict adherence to "governmental guidelines" that should be ignored in a crisis such as this.

Our only hope at this point is for state and local governments and all citizens to behave as we would as if we knew the virus was spreading around us (which it undoubtedly is, with different intensities in different parts of the country). Because the US is geographically so large, it is possible that some regions lower on the growth curve will be able to contain the virus via social distancing and hygiene. It likely is too late for some areas, unfortunately. But - if it can be contained in some regions, resources can be diverted to other areas in need. So, there's still hope.

Take care of yourselves, ARMY, and make choices as if YOU or someone you love were immune-compromised. The only real solution is collective action. NS

Not sure if we just get the European version of Trump or whether he is as totally clueless as he sounds?
Read an interesting figure today..according to the Irish Times 7000 people in total in US have been tested with population of 357 mill..whereas the Netherlands test that figure DAILY with a population of 17 mill..not sure up to what day that was but if it's even quarter true it's shocking!

Edit... that's not a 'go' at anyone except Trump -- he seems to want to treat this as something that may threaten the wealth of the wealthy - otherwise it doesn't matter to him... I know a lot of politicians are two faced self serving 'cute hoors' and my god we've had some absolute DAISIES.... but he really takes the biscuit it seems!

Got friends in Scandinavia who are from the US. Who reckonThe Irish Times version is right. I guess the UK government is hoping to kill all the elderly and the medically vulnerable off, and have a 6 month holiday with the money they save ( You can tell I am fed up )

Love's young dream will be going to Mexico. Everything is set to go. They leave at 6am tomorrow.

I'm still finding this Dr Chris Smith really interesting and he does calm people. He was on Jeremy Vine this morning (a sort of news/chat show). They'd made into a virus special.

NoSugar......just read about your greeting with a friend............I'm seeing one of mine tomorrow. I'll use the butt rub.

Evening all
Not much to add re the current madness.
Except :
Went to Lidl for water & most of the shelves were empty including the fruit & veg - people stock piling FRESH food - FFS!
The branch is Dublin 15 had to call the police to calm the fighting shoppers.

WHAT is the shagging obsession with toilet rolls ?? I just don't get it. Sure you can wipe your bum with anything.
Beside the empty toilet roll shelves were mounds of baby wipes ( soft on the bum) on special offer - but no-one was buying them.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND .... am I missing something ??
I reckon the Ozzies started it as a joke and the rest of us followed ..... some people are so thick it's scary.
I saw grown men this evening running into the store & leaving with just 2 x12 packs - restrictions are in place now to stop panic buying af fecking toilet rolls.
It was like being in a war zone .....

Apparently the shops went into meltdown, as soon as the shutdown news came. That will pass, there will be no one in the shops next week.

Kids all off from today, which is the right decision. Pain in the arse for us working parents, but hey ho.. Italy had their first case a month ago, now they have exceeded 1000 deaths, so whatever it takes.

My brother in New York was on a while ago, schools shut from Monday for them too.

And now for some pleasant uplifting non covid 19 news... I dont have any

Well, wouldn't we all be going insane if we had to panic buy wine for the foreseeable future.. spot the alco with the trolly FULL of booze.
one less thing to worry about :yay:

Later..

Mary - excellent point. How would I have been able to get all my alcohol??? :eek-new: Glad I don't have to worry about that anymore.

I didn't make it out to the store today. So guess I'll have to brave it tomorrow. We aren't really going out except for me to go pick up groceries. Hubby has COPD and Mom is 92 years old. We would like to avoid getting infected if possible.

This is sadly beginning to affect so many people's wages. Sorry to hear that it's hitting some of you too. That is hard and not knowing what is coming.

Well - on that depressing note, I shall say goodnight. :biggrin-new:

Oh JC, I mean she kept my sick leave intact and paid me for the days off anyway. She's great. Not the dumb arse, the other one.

Well that's my two days done this week *smug*

I would like to hear the experience of someone who's had COVID and hear exactly what's it like.

We have no more: Toilet roll, baby wipes, kitchen towel, tissues, hand cleanser, disinfectant. It is actually catching on all around the world, as if we're going to come over and buy all of your bog roll too. I think it's the most bizarre thing I've ever experienced.

Hope your lug hole feels better JC
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Now what about this theory : From Dr Mercola.

COVID-19 An Escaped Bioweapon?
According to bioweapons expert Francis Boyle, whom I recently interviewed on this topic, the evidence suggests COVID-19 is a weaponized coronavirus4 originating from the Biosafety Level 4 facility in Wuhan City. It's the first BSL-4 facility in China, and was set up specifically to research coronavirus and SARS.

Morning from up over land,
byebyebridgetjones.............most excellent.
I'd like to meet a survivor and there must be hundreds if not thousands of survivors out there but no-ones being tested.

NoraC.......I've got COPD and if your husband anything like me he knows his own body. I googled the life out of my bunged up ears and did the on-line test and was still terrified I'd get whisked off to isolation............turns out I wander round with an olbas oil inhaler stuck up a nostril. Not a pretty sight. His doc should prioritise him. Trouble is we don't want to be a bother.

There's talk of Mr JC working from home. They'll have to get him a laptop and a lot of the documents are so confidential (even from me) they have to be done behind closed doors.

The happy couple have arrived in Paris but their flight to Mexico has been delayed 'til 2pm this afternoon.

Good morning, same here, can’t get it to work. Have heard that one of the first sufferers has been discharged from hospital. Apparently some people have little or no symptoms which is scary as they could be passing it on without being aware. At least if you are sick you can self isolate. Hubbys working from home and I am not back to work for 2 weeks. Very strange times.

Hello Army!!

Taking a very short break from answering phones and e-mails to say a big HI to all of the Army ladies!

This damn coronavirus has us going mad for over three weeks now! We sell protective face masks, full body coveralls and goggles. It is just mental. The phone rings constantly all day and the requests for masks have gone over the 1 million mark in quantities. And we have not even one mask and don't know when we will get new supplies. People have even bought full-face masks with double filters to protect them from the virus. Cost - 160 euro plus vat and they look like they're going into a chemical war zone. Just madness. Schools now closed for at least two weeks and people are stocking up on rice, pasta and dried beans. It's driving me mental. Have no time to do any work besides answer the phone and reply to e-mails. Production lines will shortly come to a standstill due to the fact that the manufacturing companies don't have masks for their workers to wear. Our masks are manufactured in the UK then shipped to the main European warehouses in Germany. Germany has put a stop on any type of face mask or other protective products being exported from the country which leaves us wondering how we will get new supplies. Just a mess.

Now on to other subjects - it's a lovely clear sunny day - 20C and it feels like Spring is just around the corner. Greatly looking forward to it as I bought a new car a couple of months ago - an Audi4 convertible and am dying to hit the road! With my special friend of course.

Jackie - hope S&H and his bride enjoy their trip. I've heard there are some great resorts there.

Molls - enjoy your time off - walking by the sea is so invigorating.

Mers - don't envy you with the kids home. Like summer vacation early. Hope you can keep them occupied. Here they have even closed the playgrounds FFS.

Satz - I think that theory about how the virus started to spread sounds very logical. Not good news, that's for sure. Hope all is well with young Satz and that Rosie is being a proper little lady!!

Mrs. A - sorry about your fracture - I know how much pleasure you get out of running. Hopefully you will be back to it soon enough.

Sugar - don't know that anyone is being tested here in Greece. Haven't heard of it, anyway.

Bridge - try using old newspapers. That's what our granny did. She always had old catalogues and newspapers in the loo when we were small. Years later when she was much older she always had a stock of the most expensive bog rolls. Go figure....
Rusty - hope you enjoy your weekend away.

Nora - take care - hope you are all ok!

Best back to the phones. Have answered 10 calls and 5 walk-ins since I started this post.

I need a vacation!!!!!!!!!

Wishing you all an enjoyable day and a great weekend!!
