Re: International Army July 2020

Congratulations, JC. You're the Grande Dame of MWO in sobriety years and we're all so glad you are here .

You DO know someone with shingles - I've suffered it 3 times and since 2013 I've had a neurological itching condition that no one can exactly diagnose but may be a post-viral (chicken pox, shingles) syndrome. I'm so concerned for the people with the ongoing COVID19 sequelae. I'm proof that these post-viral problems can go on indefinitely (forever???) and some of the symptoms the "long-haulers" are having really destroy their quality of life. What I have is annoying (and somewhat manageable by pregabalin) but at least it doesn't ruin my day-to-day life.

That is really something about your mom, Satz. I hope she remains symptom-free. It seems like the tests haven't been standardized very well with some of them having a lot of false positives and others with many false negatives. It certainly doesn't give us much confidence.

Our big issue here concerns the reopening of schools. Trump wants them opened no matter what w/o regard to distancing, masks, testing, contract tracing, etc. -- all of the things that have made school opening possible for you guys. It is madness and risks killing children. My kids and their partners are agonizing about what to do with their 4 and 5 year olds, whose schools probably will be open but they are so fearful of sending them w/o sensible protections being in place.

Anyway, it was nice to finally be able to sign on again and catch up on all of you. Take care, NS

NoSugar...........how lovely to see you. I seem to remember my Dad being in agony with shingles and you've had it three times.
Thank you so much much for the kudos.
We've got the same problem over here with the state schools.......the government banging on about the kids going back.......so far the year 6 (aged 9/10 years old) and year 1 (5/6 year old) are back.............its been okayish.................there's been a few have opened their doors, some have tested positive and boom the school's closed for 14 days.......... they're having the devil of a job keeping them socially distant. In the playground, they're each allowed a two-metre square to play in. They're doing okay but, they want everyone back by September.

The private fee-paying schools are due to open Septemeber and talking to my cousin who has two kids in one saying that's still an issue and hers won't be going back until the government can promise better safety................btw her husband is a surgeon and has done a fair few shifts on COVID wards.

Some kids in the state schools are already in..............the children of key and front line workers. Jenny has been teaching from home for the most part but has been in to cover classes o those kids that can't learn from home.

mollyka..............ooh what are they going to do with her...........shame her in the town square. You know I bet she thought she was being clever and getting one over on the powers that be.....get her in a Covid ward to mop the floors.
And I hear you about Trump..............we're not perfect or even average over here but he's plain scary.

Just a boring two in a row.
Did my roots today but left the shit on too long and the ends are like straw. I've got some of that stuff Satz advised somewhere in the house but for now don't some near me with a naked flame........I'd go up like a hay-stack.
Did I tell you the S&H had a job............he's become a van driver dropping off fizzy drinks to shops at the mo............they've got whopping mortgage to pay....................but he had an interview today for Aldi as an assistant manager and one for the tax office later this week.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Really something all right NS - my sister is the named NOK & rang this eve the nurse said she tested negative today. I'm REALLY REALLY getting worried they don't know one patient from another. Positive on Saturday - then for no reason re-test maybe on Monday or Tuesday ???
I will have to ring myself in the morning - but I'm as hell.

Ah here Satz, false positive or whatever all that means.. I'll ask JC

Lots of conversations about the schools here too. They have a longer break than in the UK (3 months for secondary, 2 months for primary), so not back until end of August.
Numbers are low and they do seems to have a handle on contact tracing - so hoping they can make it happen. A lot of activities are back, they work in pods and everything is logged, so I presume they will extend the same to schools too, along with social distancing, masks etc. Having said that, as soon as they leave athletics (which I help out with), they are off linking arms walking home, not giving it a second thought.

My mam has had shingles 3 times too NS. The 1st and 2nd times knocked her for 6. She knew the signs this time, during lock down, and got it sorted quickly. She rekons stress brings it on.

Counting down the hours now until Friday at 9.30. My hair appointment :happy2:

Hello Army. I need to share an ultimate irony. I have been competing in elite triathlon events for 20+ years. Two years off due to the poison. I now have a sponsor for the 2020 Malibu Triathlon. First time I’ve ever been approached by a company. Clif Bar. Not sure Clif Bars are even a thing outside the USA? The perks: Free five star hotel, food expenses, free equipment, and huge bucks if I finish in my class. The irony? It’s going to be canceled due to COVID-19. The story of my life. Love you all x

Morning and waves to the world,
techie.............bet they'd let you take it in 2021. They're doing that over here with take a break prizes, saying you can take them next year.

IamMary...............I tried, I really, really tried to make head nor tail of a false negative or fake positive. But its all very, very long words or for some reason something to do with computer programmes.:eek-new:

Not much going on here..............I do have some rhubarb which I'm a tad excited about.

Well, the cake's a little stale, but I didn't need the sugar anyway. I'd be remiss not to congratulate the wonderful, effervescent, Ms. JC on her huge milestone! Well done, you!

Evening everyone. Great to see some visitors and sorry about what happened Techie, hopefully it will work out for 2021. What did you do with the rhubarb JC? Love it but I am the only one that eats it and a full tart is too indulgent. Bet you can’t wait for tomorrow Mary. Mine needs doing again. My neighbor cut it last time in the garden and I gave the money to charity. Still painting and will be for a while.

Mr Vervill.................eeeeh its a week-long party. Thank you.

rustop59.........by the time I dithered around making a pasta bake, I found out I'd got no ginger or lemon for the rhubarb crumble. So that's tomorrow's job. I  rhubarb.

S&H passed his second part oh his interviews with Aldi and the next step is to shadow a manager for a day.........please keep everything crossed for him. Its hard work but the wage for an assistant manager is good........starts at around 25 grand plus.

The an hour long plus convo with our Jenny, she's off to the opticians next week. She's now having to do Personal Development for the 9/10-year-olds (in the olden days that would be The Birds and the Bees talk) at school now. I don't envy her one bit.

jc Congratulations on your 11th year - I am truly inspired
@Satz about the testing fiasco... just WOW is all I can say
techie awful news about the triathlon being cancelled. I was upset when the lockdown meant I had to cancel my once-in-a-lifetime trip to Europe and go back to a job I hated because of Covid. But things were put into perspective when I realised my niece had actually booked and paid for everything, moved out of her flat and and quit her job to go travelling for a year, just before Covid hit. She is now stuck living with her parents, unemployed and freaking out about being almost thirty. Another friend had done the same, retired, taken his long service leave, booked and paid, then bam. Stuck at home, wasting all that precious leave and feeling he has missed his big chance. I don’t mean to diminish your pain or be pollyannerish, but I find contemplating how other people have withstood massive disappointment and found a way through it to be somehow inspiring and it strengthens my own spirit. I hope you have an opportunity to do the triathalon next year
@ bridget loving your list of old people stuff and am going to put it on my fridge for my youngsters to chuckle at with me :welldone: Thanks for the link to MSM. I really have to get to the bottom of my issue with my ankles. It is not a mechanical thing as I recover overnight just fine. It’s only after I’ve been out walking (the further the worser, even after I do my stretches, else I’d be crippled by it) I’m in agony after a walk, hobbling about, and it feels like inflamed tendons. They always flare up after a walk and make me feel miserable and old. Very strange.
PS. I have had shingles twice and it is not a nice thing.

Thy can stick their 8 hours a fecking week up their collective bums.

Plenty of jobs out there - paying peanuts - but with management who treat people with respect.
But I may hold out for dr Dreamy
